Deluxe edition "Exile" review I wrote. And yes, there's a mistake cause we all know the Fallon week is May 10-14.\\

Are you a regular contributor to that site, PS?  How do I get a piece of the action?

Nice review.  Lead-in is quite lengthy since it's all been written so many times before.  Saying Keith was "off-and-on involved" with the making of Exile is a startling assertion, notwithstanding his lengthy absences.  Fact is, when he left the cellar, the proceedings were put on hold.

I'm surprised you didn't acknowledge the 2010 lead vocals all over the place on on the bonus tracks, and drank the kool-aid about new contributions from Taylor.  Personally, I don't believe it.

Not to be pedantic, but Angie was a #1 single in the US between Brown Sugar and Miss You.

Well it's a Canadian entertainment magazine site so if you live outside Canada, you're out of luck to write for it, but free to read. I was writing with the thought that many readers might not know the circumstances behind Exile's making. Just writing as if the audience isn't totally familiar with Exile. When I said "off and on involved" I meant that for stretches he could be gone and absent but not out of the loop. I never said he was a minor contributor, far from it. As you said, things stopped when he left. He was the key cog as this was before Mick took over the creative lion's share. I only went with Taylor stuff because it's been rumoured and I did mention overdubs, just didn't go in depth about all of Mick's overdubs. I think the editor took out how I mentioned new leads from Mick but you still get the line I wrote about how his voice is older now but he's still a fabulous frontman, just not the same as in 1971. You're right about "Angie." I thought that one was only #1 in the UK for some reason. My bad.

"Happily, it sounds as if Keith's original harmony from 1972 remains. Taylor himself was brought in to provide overdubbed leads to attempt to give it that 1971-72 authenticity. "

Can't hear Keith harmonizing on PMS, it's Mick, like on So Divine, trying to recreat the lead/harmony of the original Exile. It seems Keith couldn't be bothered to participate and/or Mick didn't want to waste his time recording him singing.

A review of the remaster should mention the sound and I can't say I like it very much, far too compressed and aggressive. I only find it really useful on "quiet" tracks like "Just Wanna see his Face" that do sound clearer. For the rest, check out this vinyl rip of the original Canadian pressing : http://pbthal.blogspot.com/2010/03/rolling-stones-exile-on-main-street.html

“This is at once the worst studio album the Stones have ever made, and the most maddeningly inconsistent and strangely depressing release of their career.’’

— Lester Bangs, Creem magazine album review of “Exile on Main Street,’’ August 1972

Talking about the Deluxe version, the limited Japanese version is currently sold for $75 on Amazon Japan http://tinyurl.com/27afjbe (link seen on the UC list) - not sure how one orders from over there though...

Pretty easy actually you can sign up in English and it's $111 shipped for one (including $24 shipping), hard to resist...
