Title: Will Darryl (Jones) ever become a full member? Post by StonesFan1990 on May 13th, 2010 at 9:39am
Do you think Darryl Jones will ever be inducted as an actual Rolling Stone? I mean the guy's been playing with them 17 years faithfully--isn' it about time? I know it took Woody 17 years (1976-'93) to be formally inducted into the band, so maybe this year Darrell will be inducted.

No.
Its got nothing to do with the time frame. The band doesnt 'have' to have a bass player, even though there's bass on their songs just like they dont 'have' to have an official keyboardist. Chuck Leavell has been with the band longer than anyone but the 4 current band members (even longer than Stu) and he wont be made an official member either. Woody joined the Stones in February 1976. He chose to take a salary for a fixed period over a percentage (believing the band would hardly last much longer) which is why he lost out so much financially. He only became a 'board member' in the early 90s when Wyman left. Bill didnt sign the new Stones contract with Virgin, and thats effectively when Woody became a partner as HE did. To all intents and purposes, Woody replaced Bill Wyman, not Mick Taylor. |

Hm. Was Mick Taylor a 'board member' so to speak when he was in the band--I mean unlike Darryl or Chuck, he was an official Stone right? Or was he on salary like Woody was from '76 to '93? |

Different contracts. Different era.
Not gonna happen at this late stage. Even if one of the band left/died/got kicked out now, they wouldnt be 'replaced' with another member of equal status. No way are the Stones going to carve up a percentage of the 'pie' for someone else. Ronnie doesnt even have the same 'full' status as a shareholder that the other three have even now. |

Daryl is not a Stones - and never will be. He's a sideman, just like Chuck Leavall, Blondie Chapman, Lisa Fisher Bernard Fowler, et al. They're an essential part of the modern-era Rolling Stones, but still...
Also, the Stones are an English band. It’s all very well embracing Americana and having Americans onboard in various capacities, but they should stick to their roots in that sense. I don not have a quote to hand, but am fairly certain that a factor in Harvey Mandel not passing the Taylor-replacement audition was that he wasn’t British. That may have even come from Keith. |

NO. Darryl isnt British and thats a requirement for the job. According to The Rolling Stones.
