According to a poster (MisterJ) on IORR :

Bill wasn't there during the original photo session. The pictures were later reworked to include Bill's face.

One of the original pictures can be seen on "Taxile On Main Street" 2LP bootleg.

That said, its not like there are no available photos of the five of them from that era that could have been used. If Bill could be 'added' in 1972, he could be photoshopped in in 2010.

The 1972 photo with Bill was a cut-and-paste job. This new one appears to be struck from the original negative.

That is so wierd...it's not like he wasn't there...(right?) and who is that new guy in the picture...I am at a loss here...i really don't understand

They should of left Bill in the picture! That sucks for him, but again I suspect this is MICK's way of 'punishing' Bill for quitting, as he punished Mick T for the same reason. IMO.

I disagree. I think they went back to the original negative for this "new" website image since the original cut-and-paste is more than likely missing or is in serious disrepair, and there is a huge difference between the two images just in contrast alone.

I don't think this one is a slight against Bill.  
When you compare the two images you can see how muddy the resolution was in the 72 postcard to hide the cut and paste job to put Bill's head on the other guy's body.  Look at the confetti around his neck.  It's all muted and faded. If you look closely you can just about make out the cut line.
In a digital reprint of the 72 shot all of that would be more noticeable.
This looks like going for the original negative to me as well.

Bill will just sit back and continue to rake in the royalties from Monkey Grip glue........

In the original...just to the right (ours) of Micks head...looking up and smiling...is Jimi Hendrix's ghost...

Brian was a little too big a part of the Stones iconic 60’s imagery to be erased, no? The Stones – despite sustaining success over the next four decades – are, to many, solely a 1960’s act – and Brian, for all his faults, was an integral part of their look.

Poor Bill should have seen the writing on the wall as far back as 1980.

Four of the five band members are featured in 'thermographic' form on the front cover of 'Emotional Rescue'.
