I am digging it big time! Yeah, sure Jagger is doing his best to sound old school, but man it does get better after each listen! Compared to Streets Of Love etc. I think it's leaps and bounds better! Nice to hear Taylor's guitar in the mix too! Now if only the other 9 unreleased tracks would get leaked.

Since I've been totally lost these past few weeks, can somebody kindly explain this to me: is this new or an outtake from the Exile sessions? I mean it sounds totally 70's-like.

the track is amazing. I didn't wan't to like it, but after listening it is incredible. It has the exile vibe with  the backing track, but the most important part is that Mick Taylor's guitar parts fit so well and Jagger has  a decent vocal track. The Taylor guitar parts are perfect! I would give anythging to see this band with Taylor playing with them again.

Yeah, very hard not to overthink it. I keep getting distrated by my own questions...'is it new, is it old...' I know what we've been told, but it really does seem contemporary to me.....
I hear Nicky etc....and so the heart of the track has got to be dated to Exile, but Jagger's role seems entirely 2010.

I think these lyrics are top notch. It's something only Mick can sing. It's tender, it's bitter sweet, it's full of emotion, and that's just from listening to it with some shitty computer speakers. I will be transfering this to CD and listening to it in my Audio Room.

Most remarkable to me is the line about the smell of rubber. Just a great line, Mick sounds in top notch form. Love it to death.

Wow I can tell you this much ~ it is going to be a RARITY to get your hands on this! It took me over 2 hours on the phone, calling several record shops linked with RECORD DAY APRIL 17, 2010, and only ONE PLACE has ordered it, and only a few copies. So if I want to actually buy this I have to get there when the store opens at 11 AM. I'll be there for sure. Anyone else who is trying to buy this you should call around first, asking if they are getting it in, and get there tomorrow.

Absolutely.  You can tell I'm rehashing because I'm still bitching about vinyl in some way or another.

Just back from the madhouse that was Record Store Day morning at my heirs' shop. The place was insane - the Drive By Truckers are playing out back of the store this afternoon and all the truck and rollers for a couple hundred miles showed up in front of the shop to try to score that band's exclusive 7".

Happily, since I got connections in this town, I got a text this morning saying that I was being saved a Stones 7".  Damn straight.  

I was going to buy their entire stock, but they were grabbed up before I could get ahold of any other than my copy.  Que sera sera . . .

PMS sounds much better on vinyl, natch . . . the new vocal sits less uncomfortably on top of the music and instead gets swallowed by it in that special Exile way.

To be perfectly truthful, the more I listen, the less convinced I am. It’s Mick’s vocal styling that hinders the song ever-so-slightly, IMO. I’d quite like to hear the vinyl pressing.

I GOT IT!! I got my hands on a copy of PLUNDERED MY SOUL! They are numbered! Each record store only got a few in and there was a 1 per customer limit! I had to go to 3 stores before I was able to find one ~ $9.99 plus tax for a 7 inch vinyl. It's beautiful! I just love it! Too bad I dont have a turntable, but I dont really care about that! I got the new Stones single! I'm so happy! It's so cool!

PMS is not a bad song. A good out-take worked up from 72 (....or that era....).

Still. Aren't Jagger's vocals a bit too Alphie sounding here again? Shouldn't they of been EQ'd a bit to sound a bit deeper and then buried them in the mix just a touch more? To me....this would of been something to look into.

This is my only beef with it. Other wise it's a decent out-take (with better than average lyrics).

That' how my ears work too. If I like a song from the first listen, I usually get bored with it.
Plundered keeps growing on me. Love the Taylor lick at 1:39 or so.

Didn't take to Plundered right away.
Someone said the vocals sounded like Alfie!
Maybe not that bad, but there was a disconnect -- hearing Mick's late era sound with the ghost of Mick Taylor's slide wailing in the background.  The left side and the right side of the brain were confused.

So I took some medicine that helps me tune the right and left lobes nicely, and perhaps not surprisingly, it sounded better each listen.

Then...whoever posted that Dancing With the Stones thingy...may the Stonesian gods bless you!

Recognizing many of the tunes from Hillside Blues (thank your Rick wherever you are) I abandoned my Saturday household chores for beers and Stones all day.  I put on my balls in mouth Exile shirt, my Stones hat, and explained to anyone and everyone who would listen to me about the new release, the greatness of the original, the bonus tracks, the making of Exile, the unreleased videos that are coming out, the track order on vinyl, the liner notes, etc.
I woke up in the garage at 4am.
Staggered into the house and made coffee and slept on the couch.

Sunday, I attempted to recreate Nellcote in my basement.
I went downstairs in the morning with guitars, harmonicas, slides, picks, amps, hootch, cigarettes and Cheetos, unscrewed half the light bulbs, took my shirt off, got hammered, checked out the sounds and echos of the various rooms, and had little creative fights with myself all day about the particulars of the tracks I laid down.  Since I don't have a studio, everything had to be run upstairs thru the nanky mobile unit - a 2-track 1979 Panasonic tape deck on a lazy susan.  It was way cool.  Got some good material down, that I plan on mastering in LA soon.

This morning my head hurt....  

Good Lord I just watched the video - that could take weeks to sift through all of the footage in there.  What is Charlie doing with the freakin' coat hangers???

Also very carefully edited as well. Not sure if I saw Taylor feature even once!

i think, at least it seems from what i read, that they are both starting to realize just how amazing this record is... and how important is has become. with everything great they've done, it loks like they realized, no matter how high the mountain is, this is the top, and it is way bigger than them... it really is great they have decide to see legacy for what it is, not what you think it is....

Yep, although I think Jagger likes to play the devil's advocate, saying the opposite of the general consesus because that's what he does to keep us guessing about what he really thinks.....
Exile is epic and Jagger seems to finally be admitting it.
I honestly never thought I would see that happen.
But again, the man is almost 70 years old and a time does come when we take stock and look back objectively. In the interview posted, Jagger was almost suggesting that making Exile was a good experience...

time and perspective can make events seem different... I know this cuts all ways too... but some of my best memeories, weren't events at the time i knew were going to be great memories. and some bad ones have in their own ways become good...

and Keith's "chick" during the tour got a few too. I did see Taylor though.....just not as much as I would have liked. I loved the ending with Mick and Keith running after the plane.
It's a great video, if a little dizzying.....
But a great way to promote Exile to those unitiated...it looks cool and hopefully gives young people a glimpse into that iconography.

Upon further review she doesnt look to much like Angela Davis anyway besides being kind of light skinned and having an afro.  Gazza???

tex i know (or knew ) the answer to that question and i am wracking my brain trying to think what the book/source is- maybe STP - maybe true adventures - maybe some magazine article - i know i've seen it somewhere i just don't have the time to trawl through all my stones stuff and the fact you have brought it up and i cant remémber it is now driving me NUTS!! - or maybe the vockris book ??

anyway  the track is excellent  in my view - my thoughts on it before i heard were much like yours tex - i feared the worst and am more than pleasantly surprised - in one respect it is not so much the sound of jaggers voice that gives away it's modernity but the feeling behind it and the  language used - as imo mick has gotten older his vocals/lyrics ( perhaps quite natuarally) have grown more "mannered" - a bit "tea and sandwiches"as oppossed to coke and jack but heré he is more than  jst OK

and the groove is  typical in a  great way - oh those MT guitar lines - as SG says - "been waiting for this shit since Dirty Work"

love that film clip - quite confronting in a way, for those of us of a certain age perhaps... the fact that it recalls a time  when i was a teenager and that that time was nearly 40 years ago... well it almost doesn't bear thinking about... i am not a big fan of nostalgia but i am usually a sucker for it every time

Jagger is never going to be 27-years old again and his voice reflects that......but the man can still have genuine emotions as opposed to forced, contrived "sentiment", too much of what we've been getting since "Shes the Boss".
But when he's real, he still has that magic and more importantly, soul.
This song is soulful.

I will preface this post by saying I'm having a real shit day, I'm three beers in on my evening, and Plundered My Soul has been dancing around my head all day. I love it. I think Mick's lyrics and his performance are yes-soulful. I love it to death. I'm listening to it via my Dell XPS420 through the NAD Stereo Integrated Amplifier 310. Paradigm Atom V.3 are my speakers. Sounds great. Still haven't gotten it into my Audio Room, but I'm sure it will sound great.

May God Bless the Rolling Stones for all time. I love them for giving me the soundtrack of my life. Plundered My Soul came along at the right time for me. These lyrics hit home this week. Thanks, Mick!

This is a freshly written song by Mick as far as I'm concerned. he tapped into something very special with this.

I'm thinking of expanding on my Stones tongue tattoo.....
maybe list the song titles, guy with the balls would be the obvious choice, but I'm thinking scripture, like the Bible>and written in that liner note style.
I thought about one song title emblematic of the album, like "Happy" or "Shine a Light"....or maybe just Exile.
I'm taking suggestions.

IMO he "made amens" with his past for once, and for just right now. Kinda almost re-connected with an old friend he had a falling out with years and years ago or something is sort of how I view Jagger actually going ahead with The Exile re-issue and re-working. He kinda dropped his guard and said "OK let's do it ...I grew up enough at this point to go ahead with something like this. It's now or possibly never..."

I went downstairs in the morning with guitars, harmonicas, slides, picks, amps, hootch, cigarettes and Cheetos, unscrewed half the light bulbs, took my shirt off, got hammered, checked out the sounds and echos of the various rooms, and had little creative fights with myself all day about the particulars of the tracks I laid down.  Since I don't have a studio, everything had to be run upstairs thru the nanky mobile unit - a 2-track 1979 Panasonic tape deck on a lazy susan.  It was way cool.  Got some good material down, that I plan on mastering in LA soon. This morning my head hurt....   Good Lord I just watched the video - that could take weeks to sift through all of the footage in there.  What is Charlie doing with the freakin' coat hangers???

The owner had ordered copies of PMS, but wasn't sure if any would arrive. I requested he hold me a copy should they arrive.
I attended the funeral of my wife's 104-year old (!) grandmother, RIP, in the morning and wasn't able to get to the store until 2:30 in the afternoon. It was then, as I walked in the door,  No. 398 with a post-it reading "Jeff" was handed to me. Price tag - $7.99.

Compare the "guess I was misunderstood" line at the end of the first verse (about 46 seconds in) on both versions.

Today was a great day. I got to truly feel the new song. I bought the mp3, burned it unto a CD with the rest of the Exile tracks and put it into my car stereo. My neighbors don't like it when I play rock n' roll at the appropriate volume in my apartment so listening to it in the car allows me to really turn it up. And I gotta say, Plundered fits into the album beautifully! One thing that I really noticed was how awesome the bass is. It really, really adds a lot to the song - much more than I expected. The drums are really cool too - precise and groovy yet still very sleazy. I don't know how Charlie pulled that off. Listening to the song on the computer I kinda felt it was a bit over-produced and it reminded me of "don't stop," but I didn't feel that way listening to it in my car. I also first felt that Mick's present vocal style didn't fit the song and Exile in general, but the thought of him going back and digging into vaults, rediscovering old gems and finishing them to make them available to us made it all cool. One thing that does disappoint me just a little is Mick Taylor's overdubs. He plays the same pentatonic lick over and over again, much like Keith does these days. It just proves that his guitar skills have been suffering just as much as Ronnie's and Keith's. My guess is that's why he doesn't have a solo on there. His tone is excellent, though. All in all....fantastic track!

But I like that repitition: MT had a way of driving a simple melodic line through an entire song and making it soar.....
In fact Holden, , these are old men here, reaching back to a time when they were flying.....and that makes it all the more poignant.
And while the vibrato may have lost its strength and volume, the soul is still there...I think MT's simple guitar lines provide a mournful response to Jagger's bittersweet vocals.

Nail hit squarely on the head,  texile.  Couldn't agree with you more.  Mick T's playing brought out the very best in Mick J's singing.  They are reaching back and so are we.

Jagger even acknowledged this in a RS interview a few years back - about how MT's melodic guitar fills would play off his own vocals in a song and he'd never had before or since.....ie.... Winter, Moonlight Mile. If Your really Want to Be my Friend etc....
I imagine that's why Jagger wanted MT on this song, to recapture what they had back then....
and yes, MT ain't 23 anymore and his technical proficiency has faded somewhat....but this song is a great tribute to the MT/MJ magic of those times.
It sings...., it makes you feel the song's meloncholy.

Yeah, Jagger obviously wanted to do that again with MT and you can hear it.
I kept waiting for the solo, but I like it just the way it is....the lyrics are meloncholy, soulful, affectionate, sad and wistfully resolved all at the same time and somehow, MT matches that feeling with his grace notes.
That's part of what makes the song so special to me: MT was called upon and that is an acknowledgment of his contribution to the Stones music back then. Jagger was looking back and knew what he wanted in the song and only MT could provide that extra something.
