U2's Bono named Worst Investor

Irish rocker Bono has been named and shamed as the Worst Investor in America for his backing of troubled smart telephone maker Palm Inc.

The U2 frontman and bosses at his private-equity business Elevation Partners ploughed nearly $500 million into the debt-riddled firm, the maker of Treo and Centro smart phones, in December 2008.

But his gamble has cost him dear and the downturn in the global economy has caused stock shares in Palm Inc. to plummet 35 per cent from January to February.

And the huge loss has landed Bono the dishonour by financial journal 24/7 Wall Street.

Editors highlight "an unprecedented string of disastrous investments which even bad luck could not explain" as the reason for choosing Bono, adding that California-based Elevation Partners is "arguably the worst run institutional fund of any size in the United States".

Great! Couldn't have happened to a nicer, more humble chap!

As a sign of solidarity, I shall forever not attend any of their concerts at any one tour!

The tour isn't making money either, it cost too much to move that massive thing from town to town anyway.

Man its bad when they put you ahead of Bernie Madoff as a poor investor.

In the end the house gets it all.  Gambling is not for sissies.

This is awesome! Now he'll have to don yellow tights, a Irish/American flag, and spin his fat ass all over the world until he's 70!

Which, i might add, they could do very successfully.  But i cant believe they are losing money on a tour again. I think Popmart or the other one lost dough too.

But is this band money, or just his? He can probably write it all off and the tax man will owe him!

Good news for me since U2 rocks! I have tickets to see them again this summer at the Meadowlands new stadium, and looking forward to it! Funny thing is my cell phone is a Palm and I like that too! Give Bono a break, most rock stars and artists are not good with handling money, with the exception of MICK, he is so damn fvcking sharp with the pencil!

Shocking, another fucking know-it-all liberal into wealth destruction.  At least this time it was his money instead of taxpayers or those supporting his African condom charity scams.

I remember reading somewhere back around the Popmart tour the band had about gone broke on a bad land investment and then Popmart the tour just about did them in financially.  After the disaster of the giant traveling lemon I'm surprised they launched another tour with such a massive stage.  

Sounds like Bono needs to pick Mick's brain on financial advise.

Well, the funny thing is, HE DID! There was some adverse publicity for the band about 12-18 mths ago. After all this clap-trap over the years about giving till it hurts, Bono & the boys sought Mick and the Stones advisers out on how to, ahem, "hide" their money in the Netherlands. It was in all the papers. Bono tried some half-assed attempt to justify it then simply went away until their last flop record came out.

I must say, i dont know how this current u2 tour is going. We've heard nothing about it! It's really weird, as usually we get all the info on this band. I mean, how longs the tour been going? I wouldnt even know what their last album was called. We are a big u2 country (except for me), but this sank like a stone.

As far as real press coverage I haven't noticed that much in the States about this tour either.  Which is also odd.  Even out here in the midwest we still hear about big tours by major acts.  Not this time with U2.  Bono's charity work always makes the news, but the band doesn't seem to now.  

So I'll revise what I posted earlier.  Bono should pick Mick's brain for advice and listen.
