NEWARK, Ohio - A music producer and co-founder of KC and the Sunshine Band responsible for such hits as "Shake Your Booty" and "Keep It Comin' Love" has acknowledged having sex with teenage boys, police said Wednesday.

Richard R. Finch, 56, was arrested Tuesday after a boy told authorities he'd had sexual contact with him at Finch's home in Newark, the Licking County sheriff's office said. The boy made the revelation last week.

Finch, while being interviewed at the sheriff's office, admitted he'd had sex with that boy and others ranging in age from 13 to 17, police said.

Finch, a former bass player for the band and a seven-time Grammy Award winner, was being held at the sheriff's office on $250,000 bond.

A message posted on the Web site of Richard Finch Productions Inc. said the allegations against the producer and song arranger were baseless.

"We will let due process happen through the legal system," it said, "and through that, we are sure Mr. Finch will be vindicated from these unfounded allegations."

No date had been set for Finch's arraignment, said Sgt. Kevin Biller, who wouldn't disclose the evidence that led to Finch's arrest or the possible charges against him.

Finch started KC and the Sunshine Band in the 1970s with Harry "KC" Casey, who was a record company stockroom clerk when they met. Their collaboration produced a slew of disco and funk hits including "Get Down Tonight," "That's the Way (I Like It)" and "I'm Your Boogie Man."

The article said police said he had admitted having sex with underage boys.  As a criminal defense lawyer, I've read more lies in police reports than the average RO poster.  Then again, even if he did make such a statement, there's the issue of false confession (Google "Richard Ofshe" or "false confessions" for more).  His website reportedly issued a denial, so the fact is in dispute.

Yes, BJ.  I can appreciate your position as a defense attorney and that there are plenty of false confessions.  I hope my little post here at RO won't cause any further damage to the justice system.

Creepy fucking story.

I saw them a few years ago, they performed at a national conference as the 'entertainment', and I hung around to chat afterwards and take pictures. They were crazy, wearing loud, bright and shiny costumes with wierd hats, circus like, which was odd since this was a business event and the audience were in tuxedos and evening gowns!  They were drinking pitchers of beer, half drunk, laughing and poking fun at the audience! Actually they broke the ice for a bunch of normally stiff serious corporate types and people started having fun! They played great, and the crowd really enjoyed the show. I guess they do corporate gigs for the paycheck and as they laugh at us we laugh at ourselves! They were funny, and they dont take life too seriously, so I can see them laughing in the face of 'the system', no problem, it's all funny until someone gets caught!

KC & The Sunshine Band continues to successfully flourish, having toured around the world for over 37 years.

The band probably put the heat on him to come up with that statement, they want to wash their hands of having any association with him.
They (K.C. & Sunshine Band) like the Village People, were big in disco days, they had a lot of catchy tunes, but like any fad that goes around, it only lasts for so long.

I'd guess that these days KC is the band, and the rest are hired hands.
And his statement says that they've been touring the world for over 37 years.

Casino and corporate gigs pay pretty well, so KC's probably doing alright...

I heard he is hiring the Pope to make this go away......
