Title: Worst Album Ever Recorded.
Post by Heart Of Stone on Mar 22nd, 2010 at 10:16am
While we're on the subject of the worst Stones song, how about the worst album ever made? I'm not a fan of KISS or Freddy & the Dreamers & a few others I could name, but I'd have to say the worst album is Lou Reed's "Metal Machine Music" absolute garbage, I like Lou Reed, but I don't know where his head was at when he made that (it was the 70's, so he was probably out of it)

If you think the fact that an album sold well says anything about quality Sweet Charmed Life, you must love Abba, Celine Dion and Simply Red...  :blankfriggingstare1

No I don't and I can't stand Celine Dion or ABBA. But their ain't a damn thing wrong with The Eagles.

The latest Guns N Roses album, Chinese Narcolepsy, gets my vote. A true piece of shit.

Honorable mention goes to Pink Floyd's The Division Bell. This may come to a shock to some, but I hate Pink Floyd. I refuse to listen to their music.

Eagles music has been clinically proven to induce genital warts in kangaroos.

MMM was, I believe, the last album required to fulfill a contract/recording deal...Reed was so pissed of at the RCA, he just wanted out and didn't care how it ended...it was quite obvious that unit sales were not a consideration when making it.

Sonic Youth has often called it an influence...as well as Trent Reznor.

Didn't Neil Young do a similar thing when he out ARC WELD? Though that was all live feedback as opposed to Reed's electronic phasing etc...

'Arc' was the companion piece to the live 'Weld'.
A half hour of feedback, guitar noise and vocal snippets...

Dunno about albums, but anything that Yoko screams and caterwauls through gets my vote!

Metal Machine Music does indeed suck, although I find Lou Reed highly overrated anyways.
This is a broad question because 90% of the stuff out there is absolute dreck.

Recently for Rock albums, I'd say Chinese Democracy is a good bet.

I dont think it's fair to include "kids" music. Christ, there must be a million worst albums.

I have a list of worst albums by major acts, and they are.

in through the out door
dirty work
the elder
soft parade
everything elton john has done after Captain Fantastic

But probably the album that sticks in my craw the most is Boz Scaggs follow up to silk degrees. It was easily the most pathetic thing i have ever bought.

Certainly a shite album. What made it worse was that so much of the what came before from the Clash was brilliant, save for a big chunk of Sandinista, so the let down of Cut The Crap was a real slap in the face. Given the state that the band was in at the time it was no real shocker that it sucked, but it sucked way hard.

This should have actually been a decent album.

I saw the 'Mk II' version of The Clash in early 1984 - about 18 months before Cut The Crap came out - and they were playing about half a dozen of the new songs, with the general consensus being pretty positive.

How it all went tits up after that is something that's never been properly explained. I think Joe just basically lost interest, control or belief in it (or all three) and Bernie Rhodes ended up being responsible for having the bright idea that one of the last great rock n roll bands should put their name to an poorly mixed mess overrun by drum machines.

There's still a few good songs on it though, and 'This is England' is a gem.
