The Rolling Stones’ grandchildren join dedicated family of fashion
From The Times  March 20, 2010

Jesse Wood, his wife, Tilly, and children Lola and Arthur for Calvin Klein

The Kinks may have sung it, but for dedicated followers of fashion look no farther than the Rolling Stones.

Not only did they pursue some of the most beautiful models of their generation, they then went on, with their conquests, to sire a new era of catwalkers. Now the Rolling Stones’ intermingling with fashion has broached a new generational frontier.

Lola Wood, aged 4, and her brother Arthur, 8, have become the first grandchildren of the Rolling Stones to win a modelling contract.

Calvin Klein’s Eternity, one of the fragrance sector’s biggest accounts, has snapped up Ronnie Wood’s son, Jesse, his wife, Tilly, and their children Lola and Arthur for an undisclosed fee.

Jesse was put forward for the contract by Select, one of Britain’s most influential international model agencies. Eternity, which predicates much of its branding on idealised images of the family, also signed up his wife and children.

Jesse said: “I took some time out from modelling to tour and concentrate on my band [The Black Swan Effect] but when Eternity came up it was brilliant to get back into it with something that involved my entire family.”

Nuclear family, that is — for were Jesse to recruit the entire extended Rolling Stones clan into the Eternity campaign it would be too much for a single page to bear.

First, there is Leah, Jesse’s half-sister, who started modelling, aged 14, appearing on the catwalk in Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood as well as in a Westlife video. Now a mother, she recently emigrated to Australia.

Her near contemporary, Elizabeth Jagger — elder daughter of Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall — also started modelling early, aged 17, when she walked for Westwood at London Fashion Week in 1998. Elizabeth’s career has been successful — she starred in campaigns for Lancôme and Marks & Spencer — but she has been eclipsed by her younger sister, Georgia May.

Voted Model of the Year at the 2009 British Fashion Awards, she has appeared on the cover of i-D, in French Vogue and Vanity Fair and has won significant contracts for fashion brands including Versace and Rimmel.

Like Georgia and Elizabeth, Jade — whose mother is Bianca Jagger — is another Jagger daughter who is not as tall as the average model. Yet she has had some success as a clotheshorse, making her debut in 1990, aged 19, in a Vogue editorial shot by Patrick Demarchelier.

Later that year at the Paris Prêt à Porter shows, she made her first catwalk appearance, for Thierry Mugler, after last-minute counselling from Linda Evangelista helped her to conquer stage fright.

She now has two teenage daughters — who, shockingly, have yet to embark on full-scale modelling careers.

Theodora and Alexandra Richards are the daughters of Keith (who recently starred in a Louis Vuitton campaign) and 1980s supermodel Patti Hansen. Theodora and Alexandra appeared in campaigns for Tommy Hilfiger (alongside Elizabeth Jagger) and Guerlain as well as briefly representing Mulberry.

Between them, it seems likely that these Stones offspring will produce another generation of catwalking rock’n’roll scions.

Charlie Watts, as far as The Times can ascertain, does not have any offspring who are models. He is, though, easily the band's snappiest dresser.
