Even though it's a real period piece of the time, & I like it, I often wonder what The Stones think of "Dandelion" today, no flower power around today, but at the time it was just written just for that.

Toss up between Indian Girl and Miss You, although at this point I would sit through a two hour jam of both songs and both songs ONLY if it meant a Stones show!

I'll go with all the songs on ABB except Back of My Hand and Rough Justice. I can't remember what most of them are called right now. Sweet Neo-Con and Streets of Love come to mind.
I like Might As Well Get Juiced. |

Y'all are nuts. Miss You is GREAT. Killer single, killer lead track to LGSA, killer 12", killer live in '78 and '81.
Might As Well Get Juiced is very cool. And Dandelion is marvellous - you KNOW you should wear it. Come on, dig up the true bottom of the barrel for what would truly be a godawful record: I WAS THE WORST: SCRAPING OUT THE UTERUS Back to Zero Suck on the Jugular Any Way You Look at It Let Me Down Slow Blinded by Rainbows Can You Hear the Music? Stealing My Heart This Place Is Empty Rock and a Hard Place Always Suffering TRULY A GRIM LISTEN, RONNIE! |

In no particular order and just off the top of me head:
Flip The Switch / Where The Boys Go / SMU /Dirty Work Album except Had It w/ You, Too Rude and Harlem Shuffle / Melody / not sure if it is fair to include GOMMPER...it barly is a song in itself...but it is kind of interesting Oh...I like The Dust Brothers...so Juiced is on my LIKE list |

Title: Re: Worst Stones song thread Post by Gazza on Mar 19th, 2010 at 10:17am
'Miss You' is a great record. I'm just sick to death of hearing it being butchered live. Mind you, I'd like to see the Stones tour again if it means I have to put up with it. 'Where The Boys Go' is one of my top 12, and always has been.
Worst ever? 'Hold Back' by a mile. A dreadful thrashing mess that spends five minutes in a vain search for something resembling a tune, with possibly the worst vocal of Jagger's career (his tendency to growl and bark around that era wasnt very enjoyable). The rest of the top 10 in no particular order My Girl (great song. Crap cover). Sing This All Together Sing This All Together (See What Happens) Gomper (anyone able to notice a trend yet?) Anyway You look at It Sweet Neo Con (decent tune, but a message that totally misses the point because it reads like the rantings of a 12 year old with Tourettes) Suck On The Jugular Losing My Touch Melody (enjoyed the novelty of seeing it played live at Shepherds Bush, though) To be honest, theres not that many that I cant listen to. Even some of the above arent totally horrendous. Thats not a bad return for a catalogue of 350 songs. |

Blinded by Love - oh my god my testicles shrink just typing it.
Indian Girl Don't Hold Back Back to Zero How Can I Stop Always Suffering Stealing My Heart This Place is Empty. I gotta say that Keith's contributions have steadily declined since Voodoo Lounge. Liked Thru and Thru alot. But after that, man....no one wants any more Kieth ballads. NO ONE! |

Rain Fell Down makes me turn off the stereo. Just like most of ABB actually. Can't stand that album... Other crappy songs: Anyway You Look At It, Back To Zero, Already Over Me, Sad Sad Sad...

I'm not feeling negative today, in spite of this horrible weather and this stupid world. So I'll say that I pretty much like every Stones song. Maybe side two of Undercover kinda sucks (except for Too Much Blood; I love that one), but it's still an entertaining listen. Besides that, I don't think that I ever heard their "Like A Rolling Stones" version in its entirety.

Title: Re: Worst Stones song thread Post by Riffhard on Mar 19th, 2010 at 11:50am
I gotta go with Back To Zero and Sweet Neo Con. Both crap songs on just about every level as far as I'm concerned. SNC could have been so much better had Jagger actually written some lyrics that weren't so banal and insipid. Those lyrics rank right up there (or down there?) with "sharks will cry...,and, "I ate the turkey and the stuffing too..." in their supidity.
I used to hate Gomper, but as I get older I look at that whole period with nostalgia, and it brings back memories of the days of Swinging London, Mick and Marianne, and the Redlands period. Riffy |

Title: Re: Worst Stones song thread Post by SemiahmooDude on Mar 19th, 2010 at 11:58am
Neocon is absolute tripe. It wins hands down not only for its utter lack of anything resembling intellect, it also was meant to be taken seriously.
Among Jagger's absolute worst efforts of all time, and it had NO business being placed on a Stones record. That song took what was a decent album and diminished it to the point of embarrassment. Shame on Jagger for including such a vile, stinking, pile of dung. This Place Is Empty by the way is a solid good tune. Long live Keith... |

Indian Girl - that is the one of the few that makes me wonder just what the hell they were thinking
Melody Don't Stop Where the Boys Go In Another Land Has Anybody Seen My Baby Those are the only ones that make me hit the skip track button when they come up on the CD player. I know a lot of folks don't care for Might As Well Get Juiced. I like it even though it doesn't sound like a Stones song to me. More like Mick plotting a solo album. |

Title: Re: Worst Stones song thread Post by andrews27 on Mar 20th, 2010 at 6:17am
Mostly, I was looking for comment on Broken English ripping off Mick/Stones on that song and video that I never much noticed back then ("Coming on Strong"). Why didn't the Stones come up with that backing vocal riff...or those outfits?....

Miss You is the last Stones masterpiece and Indian Girl is an absolute gem. There are songs in the Stones pantheon that aren't up to their best... many, many .... But only Anyway You Look At It incites laughter and horror and a genuine WFF. If you don't think so, you haven't heard it. |

The only 2 songs I dont like are Sweet Neo-Con which I fast forward every time, and Sweethearts Together bothers me, it's a silly love song with a beat that doesnt make sense, is it supposed to be reggae with an accordian?

Never thought of it as 'reggae' sounding, more of a Tex-Mex feel. Dont you get the impression there's a subliminal homo-erotic message on there and they're kind of singing it to each other? There are quite a few of their songs like that (Worried About You, All About You, Mixed Emotions plus a few songs on their solo albums e.g Party Doll) |

I submit that every song on this thread, with one exception, is enjoyed by some. The exception, of course, is "Anyway You Look At It". If anyone here actually likes this song, please identify yourself. Anyone who hasn't heard "Anyway You Look At It" and who proposed a different tune as the Stones' worst is operating on insufficient data.
