Have just heard he has passed away. While I , of course, never heard his radio shows his book Sound of the City: the Rise of Rock and Roll was one of the first rock and roll books to treat its subject seriously and one of the first i ever read. While it was a little academic (it was a Masters thesis) it was a mother lode of information about, well, as the title says, the rise of rock and roll.
