Title: Voodoo Lounge DVD BT request
Post by TURB0 on Mar 16th, 2010 at 6:20pm
Perhaps these sorta requests are frowned upon here but since its long out-of-print and is only avaliable 2nd hand for ridiculous amounts of money I was wondering if someone could perhaps rip and torrent the original and official version of the "Voodoo Lounge" DVD on Demonoid or The Pirate Bay or any kind of appropriate tracker? I've been searching high and low for a copy of this for years. I have the original VHS release but didn't have a DVD player when the DVD version was avaliable ten years ago so I never picked that one up (figured it would be avaliable forever, like the rest of the Stones DVDs, but alas...). I've aquired several versions of the longer, pay-per-view version of the show but all of them have quality issues. And being the completist that I am I would love a straight rip from the original DVD from back in the day. Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Sorry, I didn't mean this particular tracker - any tracker would be just fine by me, demonoid, TPB, you name it.

Gazza...interesting question...Yes...VooDoo Lounge was an official release...yet...no longer available / out of print...no one is loosing money by having it avail as a torrent...so why the restriction??

I had this debate with someone else on another board...about a long out of print comic book series, Miricleman...long court battles have ensued for years...it's been out of print for a long time...yet avail on Demonoid...all 25 issues, plus specials...

You can buy them on Ebay (as you can VL)  or at comic shops for $30-800...(yes, 8 HUNDRED)...see:

...but the authors would NEVER see any of that money, since it is all resale/collectors market...just like the torrent was and no one has lost any potential monies...

Just a question...

Thanks for the offer, MRD8, but I'm in Europe I'm afraid. Much appreciated though.

Btw - is the official Voodoo Lounge DVD a single-layer (DVD5) disc or a dual-layer (DVD9) disc?

Ok, we'll look into it. However, I would mention that within the last 24 hours we've been contacted by the Stones' legal people and they've requested that we remove 'Ladies & gentlemen' from the tracker, and it will be done today. So, even though thats out of print, we have to remove it because it will be reissued later this year.

I only have the VHS copy of the tour dvd, is that the one you mean? Well, why not hook up a vcr to your computer and simply upload it? Or, connect a vhs to a dvd recorder and away you go.

I also dont have VL concert that had the special guests. I taped it off tv & just never bothered. I loved it, but it's hard to watch as the filters they use on the cameras are bloody terrible. I know the diffused look they were going for, it was sort of trendy back then, but it's woeful. The Who did it on some of their concert dvds too and it's annoying.

I'm looking for a straight rip of the official DVD for quality reasons - it ought to be much better than my old VHS.

MRD8, I don't think I have this one, so if you want to send me a copy, I'll make a copy for myself and send one on to TURBO.  TURBO, you can email or PM me your address.

I would imagine that TURBO means the Miami one, Bob as he mentions it being a shortened edit of a PPV broadcast.

The other one is the Giants Stadium show from August 1994 that was originally sold at the VL concerts.

Was there ever an official release of the Miami '94 PPV?

The official dvd has Whoopi Goldberg introducing the Boys in Miami in 1994.  That was one of their best tours.

Yup, that's the one. The only official Stones DVD that has evaded me so far.

The best quality version (VHS rip) of the actual PPV broadcast I've come across is avaliable here:

And thanks for the offer GotToRollMe!

Thanks to ironbelly on the IORR forum I've been made aware that the out-of-print official "Voodoo Lounge" DVD is avaliable on a Russian BitTorrent tracker/forum! I've downloaded it and am happy to confirm that it's the real deal! :D The direct link is:

http://rutracker.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1002832

You have to register on the tracker to download the DVD, and the site is in Russian so http://translate.google.com might come in handy.

I lost my VHS copy of this one about 5 years ago, nice show but that version of Stop Breaking Down is terrible.

Think they did the same with the PPV for the 1997 tour as well....ie, edited a 150 minute show down to about 95 minutes.

I think the Miami show was the first time they tried the acoustic mini-set. It was glorious. They only released 2 of the 3 songs though on the DVD (Angie and Sweet Virginia - I think it was Dead Flowers that was left off).

'Sympathy' wasnt played on the Voodoo Lounge tour I think for about the first ten weeks or so until they got to Las Vegas. For the first few weeks they used that little video montage after Keiths set and followed it with 'Love is strong' before they replaced it with 'Sympathy', with 'Love is strong' being played earlier in the show.

Well, $66 (sans p&p) for a basic used (single) DVD is pretty expensive in my book. You can get a brand new copy of the "Four Flicks" 4-DVD box-set for $28...

Well, the way things are going, this will come out after the fully authorised 73, 75, 78, 81 (Hampton Roads re-mastered?), 89/90 tours.

Not long to wait i reckon.

I saw the Tampa show either the day before or the day after the Miami show and Sympathy was played.  My first show, I still get jacked up when I think about it.

It was played. 'Sympathy' was played regularly from mid-October 1994 onwards.
