LOS ANGELES -- Actor and former teen idol Corey Haim has died at the age of 38, the Los Angeles Police Department has confirmed to KTLA.

Haim died at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday of an apparent accidental overdose, according to the LAPD's North Hollywood Division.

Coroner's Lt. Cheryl MacWillie said an autopsy would determine an official cause of death.

Haim was found unresponsive inside an Oakwood apartment, between Burbank and the Hollywood Hills, police said.

He was at home with his mother at the time.

The Canadian-born actor, who has struggled with drug addiction, was pronounced dead Providence St. Joseph's Medical Center in Burbank, police said.

Haim became a teen heartthrob in the 80s after appearing in the 1986 film "Lucas" and 1987's "The Lost Boys," which also starred fellow teen idol Corey Feldman.

Both actors appeared together on the A&E show "The Two Coreys," which aired from 2007 to 2008.

Haim was nominated for a Viewer's Choice Award at the 22nd Annual Gemini Awards in Canada for his role on the show, which was canceled after two seasons.

Very sad. This guy had nothng but troubles his whole life. Fought his demons hard. But unfortunately lost. RIP Corey.

i read about this in my local newspaper today....seems the youngans are dropping like flies these days

I feel sorry for his mother ~ he was in and out of rehab 19 times, flatlined twice, and just couldnt beat it. His mother found him dead on the floor ~ that's gotta be a parent's worst nightmare! He wanted to quit, but he just kept going back to it, and he said he hated himself for doing it, he couldnt look at himself in the mirror he was so disgusted with himself, but staying sober was just too hard. Actually, he predicted his own death, in a TV interview a few years ago he said if he doesnt quit, it will kill him. And it did. He knew it would. Crazy world he lived in, childhood stardom is a tough road. RIP.

What was his drug of choice?  I saw an interview with him when he was about 18, and he talked about smoking coke...crack.

Four prescriptions drugs were found in the home---Vicodin, Valium...others. They say he had an enlarged heart and lots of fluid in his lungs. It'll take the usual 6-8 weeks for toxicology reports to come back.
