Cool...they kick it off in my new backyard...the tour starts about 2 months after tickets go on sale...which i think is pretty cool...too many bands like U2 selling shows 9-12 months in advance etc...no fun in that...I will wait and score day of...like always...Wish we had CSN or DBT opening...i really don't care for Joe Cocker

Anyone ever see that Old Grey Whistle Test concert on VH1 Classic? I've watched it three times and still can't get enough. Looks to be from the early-mid 70s. The Faces' one (Sounds for Saturday) is also unreal. Wish they'ld release them.

I didnt buy a ticket because it was almost $200 for a single. If I decide to go, I'll wait till the last minute for a ticket drop or just show up and buy from a fan at the gate. I'm only paying $100 or less these days, except for a rare occasion MUST see! Maybe if Petty doesnt sell out they will discount the prices, that happened last summer.

Title: Re: Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - 'Mojo' Post by left shoe shuffle on Jun 6th, 2010 at 6:13pm Mojo June 12, 2010 Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers by Gary Graff Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers have always been a rock'n'roll band. But "Mojo," a mostly blues-rock opus clocking in at nearly 65 minutes, is for those who've been waiting for the long-lived group to let the throttle out all the way. Petty and lead guitarist Mike Campbell don't restrain themselves with these arrangements, ranging from the tasteful licks of "Jefferson Jericho Blues" (about founding father Thomas Jefferson's plantation proclivities) to screaming solos on "I Should Have Known It" and the album-closing "Good Enough." Benmont Tench gets his own piano and organ spotlights on such tracks as "Running Man's Bible" and the swirling "Something Good Coming," while Petty and company cut a wide swath through Delta blues ("Takin' My Time"), reggae (the pro-pot "Don't Pull Me Over"), garage rock ("Candy") and nods to soul ("No Reason to Cry") and folk ("Something Good Coming"). It's not news that these guys rock, but on their first new album in eight years the Heartbreakers have their "Mojo" working like they never have before—which is a fine thing indeed. billboard.biz |

Title: Re: Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Post by left shoe shuffle on Jun 7th, 2010 at 11:30am Tom Petty Works New 'Mojo' in Oakland By Barry Walters Jun 07, 2010 Photograph by Chris Tuite for Rolling Stone In a two-hour show that combined hits, covers and an uninterrupted chunk of their upcoming Mojo album, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers once again justified nearly 34 years of popular rock classicism in Oakland on Saturday night. Every new track evoked different early '70s sounds that predate the Heartbreakers' own formation, and most of their enduring FM staples rework styles that stretch back even further. But Petty and cohorts performed with both precision and commitment — a rare combination for a band of vets with a median age nearing 60. Although he'll hit that milestone this fall, Petty certainly didn't look or sound his age. Like his Heartbreakers, he was dressed primarily in black, which in his case included a velvet suit with fat silver buttons that flanked his shins. Aside from his Grand Ole Opry-inspired fashion sense and the occasional shake of his thick hair mop, Petty remains a low-key entertainer. His sole concession to arena-rock showmanship was in leading a few call-and-response chants that nearly contradicted his lyrical content: A cheery string of "ohh-ohh-ohh"s broke the otherwise sulky mood of his 1985 MTV smash "Don't Come Around Here No More," yet the response that echoed through Oakland's nearly 20,000-capacity Oracle Arena proved his fans didn't mind the occasional mixed message. From the chugging rhythms of set opener "Kings Highway" to a final encore of their Byrds-y early hit "American Girl," the Heartbreakers maintained an authoritative roar, and the Bay Area audience paid them back with equal enthusiasm. "That you're still here tonight means so much to me," he told them after "Good Enough," a moody Mojo track that evoked Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" during the verses and the climax from the Beatles' "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" during its thunderous instrumental coda. The evening's first new song, "Jefferson Jericho Blues," suggested the Allman Brothers' layered guitar leads, while the current radio cut, ""I Should Have Known It," hammered out heavy Led Zeppelin-esque riffs. Covers of Fleetwood Mac's early hit "Oh Well" and "Mystic Eyes," Van Morrison and Them's follow-up to "Gloria," further acknowledged the band's ties to rock's past. The most satisfying songs of the evening came from the Gainesville, Florida-born rocker's own back catalog. Balancing and bracketing the five-song string of soon-to-be-released album tracks was a cross section of singles from Petty's first 13 years of hits. The Heartbreakers' very first one, "Breakdown," provoked a particularly enthusiastic response: "Come a little closer to me, babe," Petty drawled to the very vocal delight of his female fans. "Why don't you go ahead and give it to me?" he continued, and the women screamed louder. It takes a special kind of talent to make a song about acute depressive disorder seem sexy, and Petty's still got it. Rolling Stone |

I saw Gainesville, FL's (the "One Story Town") home bash son Tom Petty and his band the Heartbreakers tonight.
Great night of music. This was the first time I saw Petty, which is strange since he is one of my top ten favorites for decades now. They lived up to everything I've heard - just a great band. Those guys were so damn comfortable up there, just playing their music they way the like it. They nail all the highlights that fans love, all the parts that make their otherwise pretty bland music as great as it is. Learning to Fly, tweet tweet. My only complaint would be the song selection - nothing from Long After Dark or Hard Promises (that I recall), hardly anything from the amazing Southern Accents or Damn the Torps, and too much reliance of Petty's solo album and some trivial 90s hits (e.g., "Last Biff with Mary Jane" and "Running Down a Dream"). The did play Oh Well - FleetMac cover which was kind of funny. Also, just so all you Mormons out there know, the Heartbreaker's drummer is a negro. I saw him. Also, Petty appears to smoke a lot of marijuana. You can't act like he does without marijuana. He sometimes glorifies it's use too. Don't say you weren't warned, especially in that whiny little Glenn Beck tone you guys use when you can't find you inhaler. Man up for fucking Christ's sakes. The Drive By Truckers opened, which was added excitement. They were very appreciative of Petty and the opportunity. They were good, although nothing like Petty's band. That Mike Cooley man, that dude was a born rock star in the Izzy Stradlin type mode sitch. Fun to watch. Patterson Hood should get schlockjaw and let Cooley sing it all. I never got into the DBT movement that swept through here a few years back, but singing along with Cooley on "your sister's putting that sweet stuff on everybody in town but me" was pretty inspiring. Shades of Leviathan. See, e.g., Isaiah 27:1. See also Job 41:1-34 ("Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook?"). |

We're gonna try to make the Noblesville, IN show on the 10th. Tix in the first 15 rows are $300 face value. And re-selling on stub hub for twice that much. Holy SHIT!
MOJO is spinning for my first time today along with Merle's latest and Willie's too. Merle's voice is in fine shape even though he's had lung cancer. I love him and am glad to hear that! :-) xoxoxox, Martha |

Another day,another remastered album announcement.
On November 9 in North America and November 15 in the rest of the world an expanded and remastered Deluxe Edition of Damn The Torpedoes will be released! The deluxe edition features previously unreleased tracks from the Damn The Torpedoes sessions and will be available with a choice of four formats (1) on two-CDs, (2) on one audiophile quality Blu-ray disc, (3) on 2 180-gram vinyl LPs and (4) as an iTunes LP. All formats of the Deluxe Edition will come with nine additional bonus tracks not included on the original album. Seven of these tracks are previously unreleased including two studio tracks from the original Damn The Torpedoes sessions: “Nowhere” and “Surrender.” The never-before-heard “Nowhere” was thought to have been lost in 1979 when the tape boxes were being moved daily to avoid the possibility that court bailiffs would claim them as part of Petty’s assets in the lawsuit at the time. The original 1979 recording of “Surrender” is also included on the bonus disc. “Surrender” was a mainstay of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ concert setlists for many years although this original studio version recorded for Damn The Torpedoes, which includes Stan Lynch on drums, never saw the light of day until now. Also included on the bonus disc is the original demo for the B-side “Casa Dega” and an alternate take of “Refugee” as well as a trio of live performances at London’s Hammersmith Odeon (March 6, 1980), including “Don’t Do Me Like That.” Digitally remastered from the original analog master tapes, all formats of Damn The Torpedoes – Deluxe Edition also feature liner notes by noted rock journalist/author David Fricke, rare photos, and lyrics to each track. The vinyl and Blu-ray versions of the Deluxe Edition also include a free download of the entire album in one of three high quality digital formats. Here is the Damn The Torpedoes Deluxe Edition bonus disc tracklist: 1. Nowhere (previously unreleased) 2. Surrender (previously unreleased) 3. Casa Dega/B-side 4. It’s Rainin’ Again/B-side 5. Shadow Of A Doubt (A Complex Kid)/Live - Hammersmith Odeon 1980 (previously unreleased) 6. Don’t Do Me Like That/Live - Hammersmith Odeon 1980 (previously unreleased) 7. Somethin’ Else/Live - Hammersmith Odeon 1980 (previously unreleased) 8. Casa Dega (Demo, previously unreleased) 9. Refugee (Alternate Take, previously unreleased) |
