Title: Best ww2 movie?
Post by marko on Feb 13th, 2010 at 3:33pm
I know, theres too many movies about ww2,most of them are really bad,and not accurate.Past 10years few of them were really standouts, but i really like is
Hitler:Rise of evil,,Robert Carlyle makes a stunning performance, and really show how maniac hitler really was, allready since he was born.

Another one is German movie:Der untergang(downfall),which is hitlers last days in the bunker.

I remember "The Bunker" about Hitler last days, the one with Anthony Hopkins is good, here's a site that has a lot of good movies about WW2.

Patton & Schindler's List for me.  Thanks for posting the link, HOS - it helped jog the memory.

People need a movie to show what a maniac Hitler was?  :D

I took a tour of Normandy with this man a couple of years ago: http://www.tours-international.co.uk/Tours/Military+Tours/William+C+C+Cavanagh

Mr. Cavanagh claims that Band of Brothers is the most historically accurate, true-to-life dramatization of war that he knows of.

I don't know if a miniseries classifies as a "movie," but I could watch BoB many times over.

Eastwood's "Flags Of Our Fathers" and the companion piece "Letters From Iwo Jima" are both excellent, imo.

"A Midnight Clear" is another.

And I always watch "The Great Escape" when it's on...

Apocalypse Now Redux for Viet Nam

M*A*S*H* for Korea

All Quiet On The Western Front... for WWI, The War to End All Wars

STRIPES and Private Benjamin  for the Cold War

Glory...The  American Civil War

and there is an AMAZING silent film, the name slips me at this time, about the Mexican-American War I once watched at the East Wing of  National Gallery of Art

Downfall is excellent... as well as the HBO mni band of brothers... The Pacific should be just as good, comes on in a few weeks... I really like Stalingrad, from the German POV. Schindlers List and Pianist devistate me emotionally everytime I see them...

serious movies--Das Boot, Downfall, Cross Of Iron, Talvisota, Stalingrad
movies that were well-made but poor on details---The Longest Day, Guns Of Navarone
fun--Inglourious Basterds, Kelly's Heroes, Dirty Dozen, Von Ryan's Express
tried too hard---Midway, Saving Private Ryan, Band Of Brothers

The Train is my fav.    Inglorious Basterds is absurd rubbish IMO.    As far as WW1 is concerned then 'Paths of Glory' is outstanding.

Does Band of Brothers count as a movie? If so, that's mine.

Inglorious Basterds (or whatever the stupid misspelling is, just another thing I hate about the movie) is indeed rubbish.

For WWI, I liked All Quiet On The Western Front and in a "guilty pleasure" sort of way, The Blue Max.

Oooh, ooh!  I liked Eastwood's 2 Iwo Jima movies too, and also liked Enemy At The Gates. Haven't seen Stalingrad but need to.

Untergang was the Best. Hitler. Ever, although I'm getting tired of the scene that's on Youtube as "Hitler Finds Out..." (Hitler finds out Michael Jackson is dead, Hitler finds out Scott Brown won, Hitler finds out Jesus is Gay, etc)
