Lady Gaga: 'I Took Acid and Cocaine To Be Like Mick Jagger'

Lady Gaga says she almost died taking “bags and bags” of cocaine and LSD at the start of her music career.

The multi-million selling pop singer admitted she took drugs in an attempt to follow in the footsteps of famously debauched geniuses like Sir Mick Jagger and Andy Warhol.

Gaga, who makes the revelations in an upcoming autobiography, said: "I thought I was gonna die. I wanted to BE the artists I loved, like Mick Jagger and Andy Warhol - and I thought the only way to do it was to live the lifestyle.”

However, she says she saw sense when she thought of her auntie who died young.

“I realised my father's sister Joanne, who'd died at 19, had instilled her spirit in me,” Gaga explained. “She was a painter and a poet - and I had a spiritual vision I had to finish her business."

Elsewhere in the book, Gaga describes her most terrifying LSD trip as the moment she thought she met Radiohead's Thom Yorke.

Lady Gaga kicks off the UK leg of her Monster Ball Tour at the Manchester Evening News Arena on February 18th.

It's the usual thing, someone reads or hear from someone else that rock people are taking these drugs, & all the while their not even into it, Mick a acidhead?????? I don't think so.

I wouldn't agree with you there texile about her being a original, original is something that's not copied from somebody else, in that sense I'd say Mondanna is a original, but then somebody will mention somebody else before her, when one looks at the big era's in rock, Elvis, The Beatles, The Stones (playing blues based music & then there's all the bands that copied them) The Glam rock people, Alice Cooper, David Bowie, the punk scene-Sex Pistols, I think after that there's never anybody really original, I like what Alice Cooper said about Marilyn Manson "first he's got a girl's name, he into make-up, Horror, how original!"

I don't understand why everyone is so shocked. I'm sure Mick dabbled with LSD in the late '60s/early '70s.  It was everywhere back then. I don't think he made a habit of it, but I'd be very surprised if he never did it.  The world was a completely different place back then, kids.

And what's wrong with someone so current, trendy etc...making a reference to Mick - i think its cool.....

Lady GaGa did what I did not. To be more like Mick, I stayed away from ALL drugs and smoking. A few drinks here and there. To this day I've only taken what the doctors tell me to. Funny how that works.
