Tonight in Atlanta at the fab Fox Theater. I will be hanging out across the street at The Livingston bar pre show getting in the mood. Review tomorrow while I sober up for the Super Bowl!

Well folks it was a mixed night with an overall sense of disapointment at the end. Buddy Guy opened with a sharp one hour set featuring a great band and he really laid some great chops down. His new song off his last CD Skin Deep was particularly good and received a nice response from the crowd. He also played a medly of the blues masters through the years ending with a sweet version of Strange Brew by Cream.Guy was on and played very well himself although I was sad he didnt play Champagne and Reefer. So the crowd is in the mood and the break between bands takes no more than usual. (2 beers!). BB Kings band played some nice jam to open before BB hit the stage. During the next hour we heard BB play intermittently and quite good however it turned into a monologue mostly of his anecdotes and boring stories. The few times he played anything extended it was good but the crowd was restless. His voice is still strong and amazingly powerful even at 84. I was fine with it just content to bask in his legend but many in the crowd started to leave or call out for him to play. When he finally broke into Thrill Is Gone many were up in the ailses leaving and blocking the view and his rendition was less inspired than I hoped for and certainly no where near the version he did with Jeff Beck at MSG a few months ago. Tickets were $70 and I was satisfied with the night but many were not very happy leaving.I wouldnt recommend this show for anyone other than those like myself who just wanted to see the great BB King so I could stand and applaud his legacy as my way of saying thanks for the musical thrills and memories. And of course Buddy Guy for me is always worth the price of admission!

Ahhhhhhh.....thanks for the review and observations, gimmekeef. Yeah, I see what you're sayin'. More from BB would have been good {Hummingbird?}, but, at 84, I guess we're just lucky he's still around...and playing and singing at all. At least you can say that you saw him perform. :)
