I’m really tired of hearing about how Johnny Depp based the character of Captain Jack Sparrow on Keith Richards. The character was more fun before we knew where he came from. Johnny though, has parlayed this Keith Richards thing into a cottage industry. Now he’s taken the next step and gone from imitating him to posterizing him.

Pop Sugar says Depp is working on a Keith Richards documentary. Since they’re a celebrity site and mainly concerned with taking creepy pictures of celebrity kids (who exactly is the market for these photos?) they don’t offer any further detail like, for instance, exactly what his role is on this documentary. Is he producing? Playing Keith Richards in a series of unauthorized re-enactments? If it’s the latter, I can’t wait to see Johnny Depp fall out of a coconut tree.

We’ve heard rumors that he may actually be directing. If so, it’ll be the first thing he’s directed since 1997’s The Brave. All I want to know is… where is The Rum… Diaries. Ditch this Keith Richards cockroach and focus on Hunter S. Thompson, Johnny.

It says here that The Rum Diary (the movie) is coming out 2010 based on autobiographicalThe Rum Diaries by Hunter S. Thompson. It was a good read.

I like Depp and love Keith, but i tend to find people who idolize keith more keith richards fans than stones fans.
These tend to be same people who think Jagger is less than.

Johnny Depp wants to be Keith sooooo bad- I mean look at his clothes, the attitude, the whole schtick. He's probably worth a hundred million, but tries to look like a homeless person. Oh well, any Keith project save for the torch singer ballads are ok by me.

Lady Jane and I have the same favorite pictures. I hope the Winos rock out loud and hard whatever this project is. There was a time when the Winos were the greatest rock and roll band in the world.

I'm sick to death of Johnny Depp's Keef-love. If anyone should be shooting a documentary it should be me.

Glad to see Keef carrying his own guitar. Love that shot. Imagine that walking towards you.

agreed fotini - anyone that is doing or has done as he has for the legacies of both keith and HST deserves respect and kudos - more power to him

a man after my own heart

although i thought the movie of the Las Vegas book was, not disappointing, but rather doomed to fail... i have higher hopes for the Rum Diary which should allow him more room to breathe inside the character

and he should have stopped at the first pirate movie but i guess the lure of the $$ was too much...goes to show he's only human

if it is done as well as "It might get loud" I will dig it. That movie was fun to watch... Depp is a music lover, fan and a friend, and I beleive a musician too... so with his gift for acting, I hope he can do this. I have faith it will be great for fans casual and die-hard.

The Tourist star Johnny Depp has been speaking about his Keith Richards movie biopic and said they shot the first part in five days.

The 46-year-old actor, who is currently in Venice shooting The Tourist with Angelina Jolie, starred with the Rolling Stones guitarist in Pirates Of The Caribbean and he has now made a film of his life.

He told UK TV show Friday Night With Jonathan Ross: 'It's a thing we've talked about for a number of years now. We finally had a moment, the two of us, to get together and do like a first instalment if you will.

'So basically, all it is is exactly what Keith and I have been doing over the years. Just sit around in hotel rooms, gabbing, having a drink and we documented it.

'So it's something we did in five days. It went extremely well, incredible.'

I'm not sure how much input Depp had other than narrating it, but the recent documentary on Hunter S. Thompson "Gonzo" was pretty good. I'm looking forward to this one he's doing on Keith, I think he's the right man for the job, it should be pretty insightful
