Title: Any Smithereens fans? Post by Starbuck on Feb 1st, 2010 at 12:14pm
Any Smithereens fans out there? If so, any suggestions on what a Smithereens virgin should pick up to get into the band? Any best/favorite album suggestions? All I have are their beatle albums.
Pat Dinizio, i guess, is doing a show in a friend's living room in April. Go figure. Talk about front row seat. |

Title: Re: Any Smithereens fans? Post by left shoe shuffle on Feb 1st, 2010 at 12:31pm Love me some Smithereens! Jersey power pop at it's finest. Don't know how much stuff is still in print. Pick up one of their comps - there's like three or four of 'em. Pat's been doing the living room gigs for a while... He's a big baseball fan, too. Chat him up with some Twins. Stupid poll, btw. |

Pat used to come into the bar I used to manage every so often...nice guy...never new he was who he was...just knew he was a musician...i thought he lived in VA outside of DC where I worked...I know he was a program director/DJ at (DC Based) XM radio...I would love him to play in my living room!!!

I love me some Smithereens!! Heard them a few years back at an outdoor concert. Got to be up close and personal, standing/jumping/singing right in front of the stage. Nice experience. :)
Green Thoughts is my favorite. Then you could get Especially For You, and God Save The Smithereens. I think Pat has a couple of solo CD's, but I don't have them.... |

Title: Re: Any Smithereens fans? Post by left shoe shuffle on Feb 1st, 2010 at 6:54pm Great live band. Been a fan of Jimmy Babjak's fretwork for a long time... And Dennis Diken is a Charlie acolyte. He's even played "him" in the Mike Hunt Band. Here's a few pics from a Jersey show a coupla years ago: |

Title: Re: Any Smithereens fans? Post by left shoe shuffle on Feb 2nd, 2010 at 4:54pm 'Behind The Wall Of Sleep' Well she held a bass guitar And she was playing in a band And she stood just like Bill Wyman Now I am her biggest fan |

Behind A Wall Of Sleep ... opened with another Stones reference me thinks:
"She had hair like Chrissie Shrimpton ... :will-ya back in 1-9-6-5! ... she had legs that never ended ... I was halfway paralized!" ... CCM |

They also name-check Bill Wyman in that great tune: "And she stood just like Bill Wyman/Now I am her biggest fan." Brainy |
