This is really sad for me....:( I didn't know Pernell, but I knew all the other Bonanza guys--especially Mike Landon, who our family hung out with {and his first wife and her son, now deceased :(}, and Dan Blocker. Such a different era back then. But we always felt so close to that show and those amazing guys...:( "Adam" was never very sociable, and didn't hang with the others on his own time, so that's why I never met him.

RIP Pernell....and Dan and Mike and Lorne as well....:(:(

R.I.P. Pernell, who could ever forget Bonanza, from what I remember it was on Sunday night after the Ed Sullivan show, such great memories.

I always dug Pernell because he was the mysterious "man in black" Cartwright.
RIP Pernell.

That is really interesting, Sioux.  I was a big fan of Bonanza (Little Joe a particular favorite).  I remember reading about his first family.  It's always nice to hear some celebrities are as nice in real life as you would like them to be.  Did someone in your family work in the industry or did you become acquainted with Michael Landon before he was famous?  I recently watched him as the albino boy in God's Little Acre on TCM.

My folks were both in show biz....they were with the U.S.O. during the end of, and after, WWII. Mom was a Rockette and a tap dancer. Dad was a singer/songwriter/comedian/emcee...:) We met Mike and Dodie and Mark through mutual friends when we moved out to So. Cal. in the late 50's. Our friends son Victor went to school with Dodie's son Mark {Mike adopted him}. Believe it or not, back then, even little kids like me could go to Hollywood parties. :) There was an agent who had parties for the TV western actors--plus people like Lloyd Bridges of Sea Hunt--a few times a year. The Bonanza guys would be there along with people like Doug McClure and other TV western "stars". Mike and Dad got pretty close---they went to Dodger ball games together. :) And when Mike wanted to record an album {ALL the TV stars back then wanted to record albums! Richard Chamberlain, Vince Edwards, etc.}, he wanted Dad to write the songs and play piano on them. Didn't get much past the talking stage, though, unfortunately. :(

Mike was a great guy. Fun, nice, loved kids--paid a lot of attention to a little 9 year old girl, following him around with her mouth wide open all the time! lol  ;) ;D He was incredibly handsome in person. After one party, he and Dodie were leaving, but he turned, walked all the way down the hallway, and gave me a nice big kiss on the cheek. :) Needless to say, I didn't wash that part of my body for  LONG time. He would send autographed pictures in the mail for me and my friends too. :) Dan Blocker was the sweetest man I just about ever met. Just as HUGE and gentle and a big teddy bear. His premature death was so hard to take. And Mike and Dan were very close---I know it tore him up too. :(

Mom and Dad got to work with a lot of cool people--most of them before they were really famous---Doris Day, Dean Martin, Joey Bishop.....and not long ago, Dad told me he worked with Bela Lugosi once! lol Of course, this was WAY past his prime as a "monster". But, they had an interesting life....:)

Thanks for sharing Sioux, very interesting, I knew you know Mark Lindsay & Paul Revere & The Raiders, but I didn't know you knew so many well known people & that you're parents were in show biz.

Yeah, guess I've had an interesting life...:) I've known Mark since 1987.....I also got to spend quite a bit of time with some great 70's tennis players back in the late 70's, before security was so tight. They came and practiced at a local club--a friend of mine was a member, so I got to go in every day and watch them practice and hang with them and all. Got to know my fave, Bjorn Borg, the best. Also spent a lot of time with Ilie Nastase, who is a very nice guy, contrary to the way he was on court! Got to meet Vilas and McEnroe...and quite a few more. That was really a great experience as well. :)
