The guy looks absolutely incredible in that pic. A true Rock Royalty Lifetime Member right there folks. Wonder if Keith is tokin' and jokin' back in his Jamaica home these days. Word is he absolutely despises the cold... |

Title: Re: Mick In Mustique - UPDATE Mick on Larry King Post by Bitch on Jan 19th, 2010 at 7:16am
Many celebrities and musicians were manning the phone lines so people were calling in with donations for Haiti. I was waiting for MICK's turn to answer the phones and I was going to phone in a donation and ask to speak to MICK! But MICK never went to the studios that were set up in NY & LA, instead he Skyped his little speech from an undisclosed location. Is MICK still in Mustique? MICK kept licking his lips, the man is YUMMY! I love him! His words were touching, as if he actually cared! Than a short clip of HIDEAWAY but they cut it way too short. They could of used it as background music when they were showing all of the poor pathetic people of Haiti and all the suffering they are enduring, it's a real pity they have to amputate so many limbs because they are so infected. It's becoming a country of amputees and graveyards. Sad situation, they need to bulldoze that entire city and start over. IMO.

Title: Re: Mick In Mustique - UPDATE Mick on Larry King Post by gimmekeef on Jan 19th, 2010 at 8:00am
It was graciuos and caring of Mick to appear. The Skype video wasn't the best but he did a good job in showing his concerrn an d asking for people's donation. Perhaps the band could have announced all merchandise profits from RS.COM would be donated or something along those lines. Hell someone bought Larry's suspenders for cryin out loud. Regardless all of us here should count our lucky stars when you consider the plight of the people there who had nothing to start with.

Title: Re: Mick In Mustique - UPDATE Mick on Larry King Post by Holden on Jan 19th, 2010 at 8:53am
Yeah Mick did OK. I just think it's stupid when they get a celebrity on there with pretty much no ties to the event whatsoever, just for the sake of getting a celebrity. But of course, if it gets more people to donate, all's good.

Didn't see it, but read the transcripts and it was thoughtful.
I know what you're saying Holden about celebrities just popping in to mann the phones for the sake of their celebrity, but its hard to criticize anyone doing thier bit in a situation like this. Mick visited Nicaragua after its earthquake and understands the magnitude of such a devastation because like like Nicaragua, which is second poorest country in the western hemisphere, Hiati's disaster is coupled with its poverty, corrupt government and lack of what Mick called infrastructure...and relief efforts will be a challenge to its recovery. Its nice when Mick makes an intelligent observation. |

Title: Re: Mick In Mustique - UPDATE Mick on Larry King Post by left shoe shuffle on Jan 19th, 2010 at 1:56pm Mick Jagger Pleads for Haiti Donations on Larry King Special Posted on Jan 19th 2010 1:30PM by Charley Rogulewski While the Rolling Stones have been laying low recently, Mick Jagger took to Skype on Monday to plead for donations to help Haitians affected by last week's devastating earthquake. Jagger appeared on Larry King's special 'Haiti: How You Can Help,' which also included musicians such as Ringo Starr, Snoop Dogg, Diddy, Jennifer Lopez, Pete Wentz and Jared Leto manning donation phone lines. The two-hour program raised $5 million for UNICEF and the American Red Cross. "Haiti is obviously one of the most poor countries in the Western Hemisphere," Jagger said, "and when these terrible disasters happen in a very poor place, the result is magnified over and over and over what it would be in a country more accessible or with more infrastructure left. This is a huge massive disaster for one of the poorest, poorest countries -- it's so poor, it's very hard to describe how poor it is compared to all the other countries in our hemisphere." "An earthquake is incredibly, physically damaging but it's also psychologically damaging because all the laws that govern your life -- your walking, the ground beneath your feet, everything happening to you -- is destroyed in those moments," he continued. "It's very gratifying to see so much outpouring of help from every country, in every way -- from people giving money, from people sending support groups. I think there's not been one, the slightest hint of problems with people wanting to send money or help every possible way they can." "People have been wonderfully generous," Jagger said of the relief efforts. He encouraged people to donate by texting "Haiti" to the Red Cross relief fund at 90999 or "Unicef" to 20222. "It's a beautiful country with very welcoming people, with fantastic culture, with wonderful music, with incredible dance and strange history," Jagger said of Haiti. "It's a unique country and it's very, very sad when you see this happening to somewhere you've been." www.spinner.com Full video - www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAaHrszFxek |

The end justifies the means. There appears to be quite a few people on Stones sites (and elsewhere) who watched the show and donated who probably wouldnt have tuned in but for his appearance. Job done, in that case. It actually has more impact if the celeb in question has no 'ties' to the event. You'd expect someone like Wyclef Jean, for example, to get involved as he has family there. Having an 'outsider' involved helps give it more of a global focus. |

HIDE AWAY is a great little tune! I'm gonna pack up all my bags vanish while I can I'm gonna fly away and no ones gonna find me never tell a soul fly out on my own, rent a small hotel throw away my cell I'm out of everybodys reach out on some twisted beach I'm gonna hide away. disappear and never come back
MICK!!!! GODDESS is a very good album! DONT CALL ME UP is an extremely great tune I was trying to forget you, but you wont tell me how As the waves crash around and the stars hit the ground I'll be out of my mind once again, I was under your spell but you shot me to hell MICK has alot of love songs on this album, so thats probably why all girls like it and most guys dont. VISIONS OF PARADISE whats your favorite song, tell me the names of the lovers you had before I came along, dont ask me where all of the pain goes coz you make me feel like I dont know myself, you say that you want me forever, I say love is no crime, tell me the names of the children we'll have at the end of the line, I find myself aching for you. MICK!!!!!!!!! I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!! FOREVER!!!!!! TAKE ME TO PARADISE!!!!! GOD GAVE ME EVERYTHING ~ yeah aint that fvcking true! MICK has it all! Great looks, good health, great friends, awesome talent, great unbelievable music career, big family, worldwide fame, beautiful homes, more money than he can spend, all the fun he can handle, travels everywhere, fvcks as many women as he wants to, MICK IS A LUCKY MAN! |

I joke about 'Dogshit' cos that's what Keef called it, but Don't Call Me Up is one of the best, most poignant ballads Jagger has ever written about lost love.
Add to that, To Far Gone - these two songs were the best thing he's done since Wandering Spirit and maybe before. I always thought it was a shame they were saddled with the rest of 'Dogshit' because they were overlooked. If they had been on ABB, i think they would have been appreciated more. |
