Title: Anita Pallenberg In Yesterday's Daily Mail: 09/01

What a drag: Retired rock chick Anita Pallenberg shows her age after years of wild partying with the Rolling Stones

By Richard Simpson

She was once the most famous rock chick around, capturing the hearts of at least two Rolling Stones.
Anita Pallenberg toured the world with the band, while her interest in the occult influenced their music and their shows.
These days, however, her once-outrageous lifestyle extends to nothing more wild than a trip to Waitrose.
After stocking up on groceries, the 65-year-old former model emerged from the store in Chichester, looking grumpy as she lit a cigarette.
She then returned - by chauffeur-driven car - to the farmhouse she shares with her son Marlon, 41.
Miss Pallenberg first met the Stones in 1965 when she and a friend went backstage at their concert in Munich.
She began a two-year affair with Brian Jones, then moved in with Keith Richards.
They stayed together for more than 12 years and had three children: Marlon, Dandelion (later renamed Angela), now 37, and Tara, who was born in 1976 but died in his cot at the age of ten weeks.
She and Richards eventually parted in 1980, allegedly on the advice of lawyers because they were said to be a bad influence on each other.
This followed their 1977 arrest in Toronto for heroin possession which at the time threatened to destroy the Stones.
Richards was threatened with a seven-year sentence for importing narcotics after the drug was found in his hotel room.
He eventually escaped with a suspended sentence, however, when the prosecutor conceded the guitarist had obtained the heroin in Canada.
Richards is now married to Patti Hansen but remains close to Miss Pallenberg.
So close, in fact, that when he is in the U.S., where he must spend much of the year as a tax exile, she looks after Redlands, his Sussex estate.

"Time can tear down a building.
Or destroy a woman's face..."

The stories that woman could tell.
But I doubt she'll ever break her silence.

Well, she lived a hard life, it's amazing she survived, it's really great that Keith is still close to her & looks after her, Keith has got a heart of gold, he doesn't forget his friends from the past.
I know she looks pretty rough looking, look at Keith, Marianne Faithful looks the best for wear after all that drug abuse, I think Anita goes to A.A. she said not long ago it's the only thing that works for her, I guess with the smoking she figures I'm hanging onto at least one vice in my old age.

Wow I hope I dont look that old at 65! She lives with Marlon so that's probably why KEEF has a close relationship with her, and she is the mother of 2 of his kids. Once you have kids with someone that relationship normally lasts a lifetime.  It's only natural when you share the precious gift of life with someone. It's almost impossible to sever that bond.

Wouldn't recognise her if she stood next to me in the street. Almost a female version of Keith...

Pretty mean spirited if you ask me.  The paper published those pictures for nothing but shock value.  Nothing newsworthy - people AGE unless they die young.  She wasn't out making an ass of herself like Ronnie - she was shopping.  I say more power to you, Anita, for having the courage to be yourself.

IMO there's nothing in those pics to be embarrassed about. She's lived for three people for a couple of decades and it shows. Big deal.

Typical disgusting British tabloid approach to ageing - ie, getting cheap thrills at highlighting the fact that a once young and beautiful celebrity is getting older and her past lifestyle has caught up with her.  Anita's looks went over 30 years ago. What's the big story?

So, a ravaged looking woman (whose appearance hasnt been helped by the fact that she has Hepatitis C, which they chose not to mention) goes shopping and because of the weather doesnt dress in a flattering manner. Hardly comedy gold.

If these bastard newspapers want aging shock value have them drop by my place Saturday morning after one of my Friday night open parties! Keith taking care of his friends like Anita is also why I don't think he'll ever throw Ronnie under the bus.

I said this yesterday on IORR.  I admire Anita for not doing the plastic surgery/botox thing.  She is aging with dignity.  It's clear from the photos that the weather is cold and nasty.  I know I looked like hell when I went to get groceries when the major cold blast hit here the other day.  Why should she get dressed to the nines and do hair and make up to go buy groceries?  Let the woman be.

Another cheap tabloid stunt. How is that a woman going out to buy groceries is newsworthy. Let her be and live in peace.

Why the shock?
This is our culture.
Women who are not young, pretty, pencil thin, perfectly coiffed and dressed impeccably are dismissed, deemed less than
beautiful and the fodder of jokes.

It's okay for men to age.
It's not for women.

Anita is a survivor. She's never attempted to make money by writing a tell all book or granting interviews.
I admire her greatly and wish her all the best.

LJ.

Dunno about that. I can't think of any celebrities who have been as mocked by the tabloids for the 'crime' of ageing as the Stones have been.

I think the Stones are partly mocked due to the fact that they are still, technically, a functioning rock n’ roll band: something, that is still to many, deemed to be something for the youngsters. The fact that there are so many sixty-something’s out there performing out there every night, seems lost on the moronic majority who laugh along with the juvenile tabloid mockery.

You nailed it, as did LJ and everyone else. This woman has lived a life most people can't even imagine, and she's never written a "tell-all" book and doubtless never will. A survivor in more ways than one.

True, but the ageist comments still take place on occasions when they're being photographed when not working - which, lets face it, is pretty much all the time these days!

I found it really interesting that Anita looks after Redlands when Keith is in the U.S. Didn't realize that....

She certainly aged fast, looks more like 85 than 65, but at least she's still alive and gets to see the moat at Redlands !

When Keith is back at Redlands, Anita is a regular guest and often stays there.

They've always remained good friends and she gets on well with Patti.

Keith has always been something of a class act when it comes to women.

On a side note, Anita was in line next to me at the Rattlesnake Inn at the final 02 show when we were getting dinner. Obviously, she's aged as you would expect from a woman in her mid 60s who had a 10 year heroin addiction, but she didnt look anything like she does in these photographs.

She looks like a woman who has lived a life, really lived.....more power to her and i think she's looks seasoned.
She's still here... i admire people who survive with their sense of selves intact.
The US tabloids are bad enough, but dang, the UK corners market on cheap shots, salacious inuendo etc...
They're shamless.

From all I've read, Keith really IS a romantic at heart. I know that he and Anita had some rough times, but that was probably the heroin talking. I've always thought that Keith had a healthy respect for women. :)

Tabloids are useless trash and I don't understand who's reading them.
And yes, this fixation with a certain standard of beauty, along with the disrespect for a person as they get older is getting really stupid...

Anita's face is full of character, same as Keith's, and I really like that. I don't think one has to be Barbie material to be beautiful.

FotiniD is right, we should all be forgiving and show some respect the people who have gotten older looking and dont care about plastic surgury and false youth.  The fixation we have on outward appearances IS really stupid! It's what's on the inside that counts, right? Peace!
