Title: Jimmy Page To Tour(NRC)
Post by mojoman on Jan 5th, 2010 at 9:29am
Guitarist Jimmy Page announced plans to tour in 2010, including an appearance at the inaugural Show of Peace concert on April 17 that will be globally televised from the Bird's Nest Stadium in Beijing.

It is unclear what or who the Jimmy Page tour would include, but he told Sky News he has new material and intends to take it to the stage in 2010.

More artists for the Show of Peace will be officially announced Jan. 13, but the concert's Web site has listed a number of major Western headliners who have been "invited," including Prince, Aerosmith, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, Rob Thomas, Beyoncé, Coldplay, The Black Eyed Peas, Kenny Chesney, Mariah Carey and Justin Timberlake.

The Show of Peace commemorates the 30th anniversary of a cultural exchange agreement between the United States and China.

The concert will not only "promote peace" among countries but also "promote peace with the world" with a dedicated environmental message.

It is reportedly being organized by producer Rick Garson of Las Vegas-based ZZYX Entertainment, who will work with the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the Joint US-China Collaboration on Clean Energy, the United Nations' Pathways of Peace and the Captain Planet Foundation.

I was going to see him at Irvine Meadows with The Black Crowes and The Cult opening but it was cancelled. Was in the middle of making complicated transportation, lodging and work arrangements when I got word. At least I didn't lay out any money but I was very disappointed.

Same thing happened to me, at the Woodlands (Houston) show.

Page hurt his back, or something. Never really heard how or how long he was out, etc.

Gotta say, I saw the first Roseland show. Flew down from Toronto day of  with no i.d, no money, and the clothes on back with a friend who said he had connections and could make it happen. I remember the U.S. Customs guy giving me  a hard time about having no i.d. and asked why it was so important I had to go to New York RIGHT NOW. I said, dude, Jimmy Page is gonna be playing Zep songs with the Black Crowes, and I think I've got an in. He said "okay, if you did have I.D., what would it say" , and let me in. (ah,1999, those were the days). Crazy ass day. Borrowed a shitload to make it happen, easily the most expensive 24 hours I've done. But in the end we got hooked up and man, it cooked. Lemon Song blew my mind. The Stones I had been used to seeing and hearing but I'd never expected this. Page was mega. Ended up at Whiskey Park for the aftershow buying 15 dollar vodka-sodas (ouch!) but got to shake Jimmy Page's hand. The big moment. What do you say. Gotta play it cool. Then here it is... "Jimmy!!! dude the songs off of Physical fuckin' rocked!". I coulda done better. He was polite and said thanks. Then I gushed and said "those songs were the soundtrack to me growing up!"., and he said "I know what you mean, they were for me too".

Hey Mojo. weren't there actually rumours that the bad back story was a cover for Page being hooked on heroin at the time?

white summer!!! i don't recall but with his history who knows. the page plant shows at concord and shoreline in 98 were great. he looks like hes kicked the habit and for the last decade seems to be content with living the retired life. still its shocking that he's been otta the public eye and ear for so long with the exception of the ahmet tribute. wonder who he's gonna tour with?

I saw Pagey with the Crowes in 2000 before his knee sidelined him-and it was his knee/back-not drug problems. His playing was magical. I saw Page & Plant twice-one gig on each tour. Very good stuff.
stuff.

Chris Robinson and Rich Robinson have been very vocal about those gigs in recent years...very interesting comments here and there- both bad and good.

Got this from http://www.jimmypageonline.com/11349/index.html

Jimmy Page has confirmed that he plans to be performing a whole lotta new solo material during an upcoming 2010 tour. In a recent interview, televised by Sky News, Page revealed that he's been working on some new music since the Led Zeppelin reunion gig held at London's O2 arena in December 2007.

"I have every intention of playing music live and manifesting it," Page said in reference to his plans for 2010. "I've got the music waiting, and that's what i'll be doing. It's been two years since the O2, so it's time to do that."

Page, when speaking to a Telegraph reporter in the UK recently, may have also revealed what fans might expect as far as the make-up of his new band, stating "I've got a lot of time for the power trio cause you can get so much out of just bass, guitar and drums. If I was putting a band together now, I don't think I would be bringing in a second guitar player. I'm constantly trying to put new light on what I'm doing for myself, so there might be a very subtle change in your riff, and if you have got somebody else doing the riff too it's not going to be heard. If I'm going to put time into the guitar, I'm interested in moving it on from wherever I am at this point in time. My whole approach, in retrospect, was trying to break through to the other side without actually smashing up guitars, I didn't see any sense in that. The guitar was to be encouraged into new territories, whether it wanted to go there or not."

Speaking to the usual rumours of a Zep tour that have been spreading about constantly since the 2007 Led Zeppelin reunion show at London's O2 arena, Page clearly stated the sole reason that nothing further came out of it: "You'd better ask Robert Plant what the future of Led Zeppelin is. Musicians can always play together but I don't think you can go out with a band called Led Zeppelin if you haven't got the original vocalist."

As his fans eagerly await news on the forthcoming album and 2010 tour dates, Page has already confirmed that he will be performing in Beijing, China for the "International Show of Peace Concert" scheduled for April 17th 2010.

Glad everyone liked it. I've turned that 90 seconds into an epic before by breaking down every microsecond of it,
but it was a cool night. And a lot more happened that night that I wouldn't post on the net. Nights like that don't happen much anymore since I'm older, my friends are older, the bands I like are older, and a lot of people I knew that used to work in the music industry don't anymore.

With the encouragement, though, here's one you might like because it has a New Orleans flavor. Again just a chance meeting that lasted all of two minutes, if that, but cool.

Jazzfest 1999, we're walking in Lee Circle when my buddy spots a guy getting out of a cab. It's Earl King, who some may not know but was a blues legend so we were real excited. We say hi and tell him how much we like him. He says "if you like me so much, why don't you carry my amps into the club, can't you see I'm an old man?".
So being fanboys we get his gear out of the trunk and get ready to take it into club. My buddy asks if we can take a picture of him. He says no but gets a camera and takes a picture of us instead. We ask him why he did that. He says "I just wanted a picture of two white guys carrying my shit!".
