Title: I lost 45lbs in '09!
Post by Holden on Jan 1st, 2010 at 6:52pm
Went from 240 to 195. How did I do it? I stopped eating fast food and changed my morning cereal to golean crunch. Who would have thought it could be that easy, huh? Fast food should be outlawed. Just after a week of not eating it my body went through an extreme change, not just physically, but my spirits and overall energy were through the roof. Still got 15lbs to go to reach my goal, but that should be a piece of cake - err - I mean piece of carrot.  ;)

What did you accomplish in '09?

Not as much as that but I only started in late October and lost 15 pounds by Christmas.

Did it by basically cutting out bread and potatoes, although I eat normally at weekends.

You did very well indeed.

Good for you Holden!! Wow, 45 lbs?

I never eat fast food. Never. Where I live, the community blocks their licensing, so I would have to drive miles to find it.
Not like when I lived in Los Angeles, where it was at EVERY major intersection.

I agree, fast food should be outlawed, or at least highly regulated. It's making the people who eat it sick.
And they're cutting down forests to graze the millions of heads of cattle to supply the industry.
The animals are fed massive amounts of antibiotics, which is spawning super viruses (like the current swine flu).

But since it's a huge profit industry, it's not going away. All we can do is boycott the crap . . .

Congratulations, Holden! 45 lbs is an absolutely amazing achievement. I bet you can see your willie again without standing in front of the mirror, huh?  [smiley=wink.gif] [smiley=wink.gif]  [smiley=wink.gif] And congratulations to you as well, Gazza. Both your hearts and livers will be thanking you profusely!
One of my friends went from 20 stones to 11 stones in weight by going on an exclusively liquid, doctor-monitored diet between March and December. She is now re-learning how to eat solids over a period of 12 weeks. The knee surgeon told her that the reason her knees were hurting so much was the excess weight she had been carrying around for decades and that if she carried on like that she would need TWO artificial knees within the next ten years, and she's only 45 years old. So that scared her into it. She says she's really feeling well and full of energy again and now swims every day.
I feel that we should not attach a social stigma to being overweight, but we should educate people about the hidden shit in fast-food and how it changes your taste-buds to make you only want more fast-food. Apart from all the environmental damage that fuman pointed out!

Should we not be having a sticky on RO called "Weight Issues".  We could all exchange tips and encouragement, God, I think we need a tour, but presto!

Congrats, Holden!  And good luck, Gazza!  Life style changes are hard, but if you feel better after making them-it gets easier to continue. 8-)

Fast food and processed food are the downfall of our "throwaway" society..

Won't get on my "soap box" other than to say that if one just eats "real" food and doesn't by a "food" product with an ingredient listed that they cant pronounce, they are making a big step towards health..

Now the exercise part..that takes real dedication  - but it sure does help in taking off the pounds faster.

That's great, Holden! Wow...:) And good for you too, Gazza. :) Believe me, you will feel so much better. It's not always an easy thing to do, but I know how important it is. No fast food for me here, either. Very rarely do I get a sub or a pizza...haven't had a fast food burger since.....the double cheeseburger I got at Burger King in 1979....

Great weight loss!  Obesity is a plague in the States, and getting worse in Europe as well.  Went over the pond last year and was amazed at the #s of heavy folks vs when I was there the previous decade.

The single best diet food remains coke.  Can go a couple days with no food at all on that stuff easy and not even notice.  "Hell of a drug"

Of course, it can kill you - but what a corpse!   ;)

Sorry if that's too morbid...

Thanks for the kind words, guys. It's still pretty easy for me, I guess due to being young and having a fast metabolism. I lost my first 10 pounds within 2 weeks.

Yes, being young makes a big difference.... ;) I am small, but have still gained about 10 pounds since I had kids, oh......25+ years ago. I'm short {5'2"} and there is just no place for any extra fat to go...oy! I'm  trying to keep it close to 100 lbs, but it gets harder and harder. The only way I can really lose a few pounds is to be sick for a long time. Sigh.
