Title: Aerosmith? (nsc)
Post by Starbuck on Dec 29th, 2009 at 12:42am
i know we have another aerosmith thread going on here, but i just have to know...what do people think of this group? i liked them for about a year after hearing "toys in the attic", but that was in high school...before "pump"...before the luster of "toys" wore off after hearing the album more than ten times and "sweet emotion" and "walk this way" on KQRS every fifteen minutes.

i have always assumed that we, as stones fans, collectively hated the band, not quite as much as we hate the eagles, but close. am i wrong? if i am, why do i hate them so much?

I discovered them very late. It was there 44th comeback or whatever, back in the 80's. This was before "Walk this way" got reborn though. Really dug them for awhile. But their time has well and truly come and gone for me.

I liked them in the 70's when "Get Your Wings" came out, I liked "Dream On" but I didn't care for the 80's period, so just the mid 70's for me.

They're good but not great. Their early stuff is pretty strong. Toys In The Attic and Rocks are great. Saw them live once and that was a blast.

A fixture here in PROM (Peoples Republic Of Massachusetts) & all of New England
Joe Perry hails from a town two away from me.
I've been there since the start.
They played every VFW, Elks, Masonic Hall, ballroom in the area back in the day.
Right after Get Your Wings came out they played our High School, organized
by the Student Council.  Terrific show, I was directly in front of JP.
My uncle who was a janitor at the High School nearly had heart failure from the
sound & the  "long haired freak show" (as he describred Tyler) that night.
Undeniable success, owing more to Yardbirds, Zepp, early Fleetwood Mac
than anything else.  They openly applaud the Stones as early heros.
Recall seeing all of them sitting next to each other in a row about five rows from the stage at a
Keith Richards solo show @ The Orpheum in '89
They are not uncommon from any arena based rock band, using outside
writers, movie theme songs, drug rehabs, squabbles where band members
leave & return.  Each has overcome severe medical & life threatening accidents.
Use corporate ties for income.  Owe mid career rebound to alliance with
Run DMC in early 90's which also brought new audience.
Their music is timeless, they will rise again.

none of the above.

Aerosmith is a good American band but they are just for fun, entertaining but not up to the level of the Stones.

I always liked 'em. though I was never a big fan. Got to meet them when they were recording "Rocks" at the Record Plant sometime in the hazy '70s.

Lame one Bucky!- Star Wars is so 80's!

I've seen Aerosmith about 3-4 times (hazy memory) in concert many years ago- always enjoyed their concerts- like Bitch says - they are great fun!

Do I play their albums or keep their music playing when it comes on the radio or on my itunes (it is not on my iPod)? - not at all...

Aerosmith not quite an Eagles sesspool

Like Meg, I don't have mich Aerosmith on the ol' i-pod, but would be a big fan of their '70's stuff! Albums like 'Rocks', 'Night in the Ruts' & 'Toys in the Attic' have some righteous rock'n'roll. They went all Bon-Joviin the '80's and '90's; hiring song doctors, going for the big cheesy power ballads.

Concerning the Eagles - I had thought them a wee bit of a sesspool also..before I saw them at the RDS this past summer. They were brilliant!!
