Full cardiac arrest at 32 is not normal. TMZ reports that a LAPD investigation is underway.
http://www.tmz.com/ Side note: She dated Ashton Kutcher once upon a time. |

Stimulant-related would be a probable guess.
Shame... |

I've seen recent pics and she looked to be anorexic.
If so, cardiac arrest is no major shocker. When is this society, especially Hollywood, going to STOP the obsession with women being THIN to the point of bare bones. What a shame. RIP LJ. |

Family: Brittany Murphy was ill days before deathAssociated Press - 35 seconds ago
The Los Angeles Fire Department has responded to a 911 call from the home of actress Brittany Murphy's husband. Fire Department spokesman Devon Gale says the call was made at 8 a.m. Sunday from a home in Los Angeles that is listed as belonging to British screenwriter Simon Monjack, who is married to Murphy. Gale says one person was transported to a hospital. (AP Photo/Dan Steinberg, File)Associated Press LOS ANGELES - Brittany Murphy was ill with flulike symptoms in the days before her death and prescription medications were taken from her home, the Los Angeles coroner's office said Monday. The 32-year-old star of films such as "Clueless" and "8 Mile" died Sunday morning after collapsing at her Hollywood Hills home. Paramedics tried to revive her, but she was pronounced dead at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said they will conduct an autopsy Monday to try to determine what killed the actress, and said her death appeared to be from natural causes. He said the illness, reported to officials by her family, could have contributed to her death, but it will be weeks before a final determination is made. Toxicology tests will be performed, and officials will contact her personal physician to get a better sense of Murphy's medical history, Winter said. Neighbor Clare Staples said she saw firefighters working to resuscitate the actress Sunday morning. She said Murphy was on a stretcher. Murphy's husband, wearing pajama bottoms and no shoes, appeared "dazed" as firefighters tried to save her, Staples said. "It's just tragic," she added. Funeral arrangements have not been announced. "The sudden loss of our beloved Brittany is a terrible tragedy," Murphy's husband and family wrote in a statement. "She was our daughter, our wife, our love, and a shining star. We ask you to respect our privacy at this difficult time." Murphy's death put "Saturday Night Live" in an awkward spot. Two weeks ago, the NBC show aired a sketch during "Weekend Update" in which cast member Abby Elliott performed an impression of Murphy, who had recently been fired from a film project. The impression portrayed Murphy as spacey and living in the past. After her death Sunday, the sketch disappeared from Hulu.com, the online video repository co-owned by NBC Universal. The quiet removal prompted many bloggers and online viewers to question the sketch's tastefulness and the decision to erase it without notice. A publicist for "Saturday Night Live" didn't respond to requests for comment. Murphy moved to Los Angeles with her mother, Sharon, in the early 1990s. Her career started with small roles in television series, commercials and movies, but her part in "Clueless" led to larger projects. She is best known for parts in "Girl, Interrupted" and "8 Mile," and also voiced the character Luanne Platter for more 200 episodes on Fox's animated series "King of the Hill." Her role in "8 Mile" led to more recognition, Murphy told AP in 2003. "That changed a lot," she said. "That was the difference between people knowing my first and last name as opposed to not." She married British screenwriter Simon Monjack in 2007. Murphy's father, Angelo Bertolotti, said he learned of her death from his son, the actress's brother, and was stunned. "She was just an absolute doll since she was born," Bertolotti said from his Branford, Fla., home. "Her personality was always outward. Everybody loved her — people that made movies with her, people on a cruise — they all loved her. She was just a regular gal." He said he hadn't heard much about the circumstances of Murphy's death. Bertolotti divorced her mother when Murphy was young and hadn't seen Murphy in the past few years. "She was just talented," Bertolotti said. "And I loved her very much." ___ |

What a silly comment, FG. People don't marry up or down, they simply marry the person they love and the person whom they believe they would like to spend the rest of their lives with. Then life happens and it turns out however it turns out.
Not a clue who she was but dying at 32 is a tragedy, whatever the circumstances. May she rest in peace. |

Title: Re: Actress Britanny Murphy dies at 32 (ns) Post by Factory Girl on Dec 21st, 2009 at 3:00pm BM marrying down is a fact, jo. BM was a talented actress who appeared in major movies. Her hubby was diplomatically described as "shady" by the media even before her untimely death. After her death, his objection to an autopsy by an independent third party damages his perceived credibility. |

Aren't autopsies required when a person is not under a doctor's or hospice care?

Totally agree my friend FG. I always thought he looked weird, and not because he wasn't a 'pretty' face by conventional standards. There just seemed to be something nasty about him. Maybe we're wrong and it's just deceiving appearances, but I'd be surprised - and not wanting an autopsy is really not helping his case. Poor girl Brittany. I just get the feeling she was really taken advantage of in her life, and all these issues with her self-image. You can't afford being too sensitive in this world. |

My dear friend Fotini D. Maybe BM's marriage was a case of "princess and the frog"?
I have utmost respect for your musical and cinema recommendations. I would like to see Sin City that you recommend. Is my favorite Benicio Del Toro in it as well? And, btw, I just saw Vicky Cristina Barcelona---do you prefer Xavier Bardem or Benicio? Merry Xmas to you and your family, FG! |

Yeah I suppose it could, it's just that for some reason it doesn't feel that way to me :-/ There's some strange vibe about this guy, I don't know. Factory Girl wrote on Dec 21st, 2009 at 5:16pm:
Oh FG, you're gonna love Sin City so much. Benicio is just perfect in it: bad and nasty and not a very likeable character :D but yet so unbelievably cool. I liked his and Brittany Murphy's scenes best of all. (And of course Mickey Rourke. Rourke had the best comeback an actor can hope for with this film). Bardem is nice and I do have a soft spot for him but really, no match for Del Toro 8-) Merry Christmas to you too darling! |

Dear FotiniD,
In retrospect, "princess and the frog" has a fairytale happy vibe and is not an accurate description of BM's marriage. Your perception is right on. I will view Sin City, and will report my findings. ;) Merry Xmas darling! :booze FG! |

A damn shame. Just watching her change through the years, i suspected an eating disorder and that is always a tragedy waiting to happen. She was a good actress, not just another Hollywood 'starlet' who uses cuteness for credibility. Of course, my first impression was her role in Clueless and she was adorable and quirky, but i especially loved her in Girl, Interupted - she was haunting and tragic and was playing a character with self-image issues. It seems even more sad now. You're right LJ, when will the world allow young women to be themselves without some perverted, twisted ideal shadowing any insecurities they may have? It's disgusting that someone so beautiful, talented and original should feel so lacking. And that loser-husband of hers - something ain't right there. And SNL can kiss her ass...I stopped watching this show regularly in 1980.... and was always turned off by their often sophmoric humor. satire is one thing, but cheap shots are another.... has anyone here seen that skit? Its not funny or topical - just usless. |

Ok, but presumably she loved him, and what went on or how happy they were is only known to them. Being a vet and slicing open dead animals all the time to establish the reason for their death, which, if you do it properly means chopping up the body into small components and even sawing open the skull and getting the brain out, I do know what little remains of your beloved pet and how disfigured they are when I've finished. I've seen plenty of human autopsies and , believe me, they are not as pretty as they look on TV. Personally, I would never, ever choose to have a post mortem done to my dog or cat. I'd rather not know and bury them in my garden. If it was any human that I loved I would totally abhorr the thought of my loved one being treated in the same way, so I would also oppose to an autopsy, even though we all know that at the end of the day it is the coroner who decides. And that fact wouldn't mean I was in any way involved in their death.... |

That is certainly another side, jostorm,
and no one knows what goes on in people's lives... but i think many of us are commenting on this guy's public track record as a sleaze.... I get the grotesque nature of an autopsy, but if my 32- year old sister just died suddenly of 'natural causes' - i think i might want to know why... just to know. |

Title: Re: Actress Britanny Murphy dies at 32 (ns) Post by jostorm on Dec 23rd, 2009 at 4:36pm
Hm, possibly, texile. But somehow I think that I would find the thought of complete scientific mutilation of my beloved person's body worse than not knowing why exactly they died, so I'm sure I would oppose it. I know it doesn't make any sense, it's just the way I feel, so I was just pointing out that there doesn't necessarily have to be an ulterior and sinister motive behind his opposition to a PM and, of course, this is all just hypothesis, as until I'm in that situation I don't really know what I would choose to do, so let's hope i never will be, "there for the grace of God go I" and all that....
As to the husband being a sleazeball: I don't have the slightest clue who these people even are, I don't read celebrity magazines or have the slightest interest in the shallow lives of celebrities. Their lives may have depth, who knows, but journalists writing crap about them sells magazines and who the hell knows who these people really are? They must have a public persona and a private one, otherwise how would your sanity survive if you don't compartmentalise? Living your entire life in the public eye just because a film/movie/blabla made you "famous" is absolutely the worst punishment I can imagine for myself. And trial by media seems to be particularly good for selling papers. Thank God I'm a nobody. Tomorrow I'm planning to walk down to the local supermarket with really bad hair to buy some more butter. Paparazzi-free, how cool is that? |

I never knew about or thought about it too much Jo so thanks for painting that horrible but enlightening picure of an autopsy. I dont want one. Once you are dead theres no coming back so let them RIP. Anyway I heard he was a good husband to her and loved her very dearly and took good care of her, in spite of cruiticism that he was not up to her level. |

so much more versatile than her peers. more talent in her pinky than most young actresses/starlets have in their entire bodies... she could have done so much more. Meanwhile, other lesser talents will be around forever. |
