Legendary T.A.M.I. Show Featuring James Brown, The Rolling Stones, and More Coming To DVD

By Kevin Richards on December 15th, 2009

Quentin Tarintino puts the T.A.M.I. Show  “in the top three of all rock movies.”  VH1 put its original theatrical run at Number 15 on the “100 Greatest Moments in Rock History.” And Rick Rubin called it “the single greatest rock and roll performance ever captured on film.”

Now The T.A.M.I Show, a 1964 concert film featuring performances by The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys, James Brown, Chuck Berry, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, The Supremes, and more, is being made commercially available for the first time ever. The concert took place at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in 1964, only seven months after the Beatles played the Ed Sullivan Show, and was the first rock concert film.

The T.A.M.I. Show: Collector’s Edition will be released on DVD by Shout! Factory on March 23, and will feature bonus footage, radio spots, an interview with the director, and a booklet of photos and memorobilia.

All the artists turned in fantastic performances, but one in particular stood out: James Brown’s infamous, electrifying set went on to be a major influence on Michael Jackson, Prince, Mick Jagger, Sting, and many others. The T.A.M.I. Show was added to the Library Congress’s National Film Registry in 2006.

one good thing about this is perhaps in the remastering process they can take the shrill edge off the screaming audience which detracts from the performances

The Beach Boys must have agreed to include their spot, they pulled it off (legal reasons) shortly after it was originally released, great to see it on DVD & the whole concert plus extra's is a real treat.

Doesn't matter how many times I've seen it, I HAVE to see the "It's All Over Now" T.A.M.I. video. :) I LOVE watching Brian in this one---when he's singing backup and doing the power chords...and shaking his head. Definace! All of them! Such a powerful presence....:)

I've watched the T.A.M.I. show Stones part so many times, & never get tired of it, there's been more then a few times people have said "I thought that there were 5 members, only 4 here" Bill is only shown a few times later on in the concert, & I guess because they didn't have wide angled camera's that covered the whole stage in those days.
