I don't have three favorites---ranking or limiting them is senseless---that being said 3 that come to mind quickly are 'Pulp Fiction', 'Apocalypse Now', and 'Laurence Of Arabia'.  Lots more though, LOTS more....

Excellent choices, Jizzy.

Pulp Fiction and Once Upon a Time In America would probably be my top two, with a host of 'could have been a contendah's for third place.

Anything with either Brando or DeNiro at their most watchable would be up there.

This would be a great thread for Steamboat Bill, Jr. who used to post on the previous Rocks Off board. That kid was only about 23 years old, but his knowledge about movies was incredible and he was always great to read.

2.  Cat On a Hot Tin Roof

3. Streetcar Named Desire

to broaden it, I LOVE most anything Tarantino and Leone have made, I worship Peter O'Toole and most anything he's in is fabulous (littler known gems of his include "Murphy's War", "Becket", and "Night Of The Generals", the Godafther trilogy is masterpiece (I even love the third one), "Diva" is great, "Afterhours", the Monty Python films....and we're not even on concert films yet

I have the same problem, Jizzy!

I have seen lots of movies many many times, but to call them my favorites is impossible.  I can't do it with music, so why would I be able to do it with movies!  ;)

'One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest'
'On The Waterfront'
'12 Angry Men'

'Dog Day Afternoon' is in the DVD player now...

BTW, not sure if it'll make anyone's list, but TCM is airing 'Performance' on 12/11 at 2AM Eastern Time.

I have to list at least 10, and even that was tough. I couldn't even include concert films, documentaries, fantasies, and a host of others.

01. 8 1/2
02. Bande à part
03. The Pope of Greenwich Village
04. Wings of Desire
05. On The Waterfront
06. Pulp Fiction
07. Dr. Strangelove: or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
08. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
09. The Ruling Class
10. Most Leone, Scorsese, Fassbinder, Wim Wenders, Woody Allen, and Jim Jarmusch flicks. And a whole lot more.

Good thread and definitely hard to narrow down.

I'll try:

1) Godfather Trilogy.
2) All About Eve.
3) Casino tied with Goodfellas.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is my number one, I also love the book by psychedelic guru, beat, beatnik and hippie Ken Kesey... For those who don't know, it's based in his very own experience. Medication time is my favourite moment of the day!

Check this out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_MKULTRA

I also love psychos and can see many times movies like The Shinning, all Hannibal Lecter movies, especially the Silence of the Lambs, Helter Skelter (Charles Manson's family), Cape Fear.

Sweet revenge is also occupational therpay to me so movies like "Death Wish" (I - V) or similar are in my collection

I also forgot Werner Herzog, in particular "Aguirre, the Wrath of God," "Fitzcarraldo," and "My Best Fiend."

"Naked" by Mike Leigh.

I would go with:

Midnight Run with Robert DeNiro
The Big Lebowski with Jeff Bridges
The Bourne Identity with Matt Damon

The extremely bloody Passion Of Christ was disgusting.
Mel went out of his way to bloody that film up, but it was the biggest box office take of all Jesus movies.
I guess that's what the public wanted to see . . .

Yes, Amadeus is really well done, one of my top 3 movies, it really takes one back to that period of time, fantastically done, I never heard to much more about Tom Hulce, he did a outstanding role as Mozart, but it was the guy who played the guy who was jealous of Mozart genius that won the Oscar, he did a fantastic acting role.

I knew you were kidding about Mel Gibson, but Apocalypto is stunningly realistic, and the end is just a mindblower.

Actually, I do love weird, willfully artsy, disturbing films, but I've never thought of them as being elitist. More like what film ought to be. I feel the same about television. Such a waste of a potentially great medium. They pander to the lowest common denominator, hence the "dumbing down" of not only America, but the rest of the world. Film and television could be so much more. Thankfully, we're still able to see great films. I wish I could say the same for television. And the printed page is becoming obsolete. These days it's nearly impossible to find kids who like to read. I loved to read when I was a kid and still do. It's how you find out about everything else, including art and history - two subjects that people are sorely ignorant of these days. Okay, end of rant.  [smiley=engel017.gif]

All time...Young Frankenstein...Judgment At Nuremberg...Rocky Horror Picture Show...28 Days...Matrix...Blade Runner (especially the Final Director's cut!!!)...Apocolype Now Redux...Clerks...Slacker...Sunset Blvd...and the clicheic, Godfather 1 & 2

I don't really like concert films, though Gimme Shelter is facsinating to watch...as was Heart Of Gold
