Title: RS Fan Club: Free Renewals?
Post by SweetVirginia on Dec 4th, 2009 at 2:40pm
Just got this e-mail.....which is SO un-Stones-like:

You recently received an e-mail from us with information about a scheduled renewal of your membership at RollingStones.com.

Please disregard this e-mail.

The Rolling Stones Fan Club is not accepting renewals at this time. Instead we are extending all paid members' membership year at no cost for an indeterminate time as a thank you for being part of the Fan Club. We appreciate your patronage and will be in touch with any details regarding renewals at the appropriate time.

Best,
RollingStones.com

Got this as well, mine was slightly different:

In addition, we want to emphasize that Ron Wood is our guitar player & will not be replaced by Mick Taylor or anyone else.

Best,

Even if its for nothing, I'd still refuse it!

Seriously - does this 'offer' extend to those of us who let their memberships expire and didnt renew?

The whole offer is pointless anyway unless they make good on their fraudulent activity regarding the previous terms of memberships. They took everyone's money - and a lot of it - under false pretences. Fuck 'em.

I think the subtext of 'an indeterminate time' is that 'As we realise that a few thousand memberships are now about to expire and no one with anything approaching a brain cell is going to pay $100 for nothing, we're going to extend the membership period that youve paid for until approximately one day before the press conference announcing the 2010 tour when most of you schmucks will hopefully cough up yet again for another year of nothing'.....

Glad to be of service.

This is bad news and bodes ill for a new tour.....No renewals may mean no activity...I'm so starved for a tour I'd bite the bullet and re-up. But based on all the tour tickets I have bought since 72 and merchandise and  5 times remastered cds the buggers should play in my living room for free.

Hey, I just checked and I can still log onto the official site. So I guess my "membership" is current. Wow I wonder if I can still get a pair of those neat $300 aviator glasses. Or lmaoooo did they sell out?

AMEN!!

I didn't even get a message.  Although to be fair, I expired 2 years ago.  But like clockwork, I still get merchandise offers and fan asylum "deals" in my email..

Yes..

I will tell them to"Kiss Gazza's ass" when they come knocking...

Pfft.

I've been able to log into my free "Virtual Ticket" account since 06.
It was included with ticket purchases.

Not interested in ponying up a hunnit to upgrade my membership.

I'll take my chances without the help of rs.com, thank you very little...

Dont agree. I think its a case of a lot of renewals expiring at this time of year - a lot of people bought memberships in December '05 for example when the 2006 leg was announced, so following on from that a lot of memberships are up for renewal at times of the year (May, December etc) when theres traditionally been a lot of past activity with tour announcements etc.

They're doubtless aware of the widespread dissatisfaction and have probably noticed that a large percentage of people aren't renewing because they arent going to be so gullible and fall into the same '$100 for nothing' trap that they did before (remember in '04 when so many people blindly re-subscribed simply because the mailshot promised them 'priority tickets should the band announce any shows' - which many people naively interpreted as a sign that a tour would take place).

So, they're going to have this void of several months before any tour is announced and they're just extending the period of memberships to reflect that. They've actually done this before, to be fair.

If people feel its worth $100 when a tour is announced to pay for this service then thats their own business, but certainly anyone who pays for a membership renewal when there's no guarantee of any shows taking place is a mug and deserves to be fleeced again.

LOL. They DO show it, actually. They also show some other documentary shows such as 'Sexcetera' which I do recall focussing on some interesting looking clubs and bars, suggesting that Atlanta's were the best in the US.

Not that I'd ever indulge in that kind of thing, of course.

Our good friend denies that he watches that show..but how else would he know that Atlanta was well represented on it?  ;)

Not really, to be honest. Its generally crap from what I've seen, but if youre flicking through the channels at 11 o'clock looking for anything that isnt a reality TV show, the title does tend to catch your eye. Which is probably the intention.

Mike Hunt is a very common joke around the U.S. In fact their is no shortage of "Mike" jokes. I'll spare you and not repeat any. But they are not too difficult to come up with. :-[
