The Rolling Stones have reissued their 1971 song 'Wild Horses' in the wake of Susan Boyle covering it on The X Factor last night.

The remastered song is be available as a bundle via iTunes from today which also features a live studio version of the track and a live rendition at Knebworth.

Written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, Wild Horses was recorded in Muscle Shoals, Alabama over three days in December 1969 and was the last of 3 songs completed at those sessions, after Brown Sugar and You Gotta Move.

As well as Boyle's version - which appears on her debut album 'I Dreamed A Dream' - acts including Neil Young, Guns N' Roses, Sheryl Crow and Mazzy Star have all covered the track.

I love the instrumental version in Shine A Light. Mick playing harp instead of singing. THAT I wish they would release.

is the live studio version the "Stripped" version?

Could be as the one on Stripped is a "live studio version" so the only unreleased track is the one from Knebworth

...and it's "bundled" so you have to buy the two versions you already have to get the one you don't ? Is that how that works? No new artwork or anything?

And this is all because Susan Boyle covered the song on TV?

In other words, the Stones (once again) will use the slightest excuse to pick the pockets of their most loyal fans?

To paraphrase a comment in today's Daily Express, its a sad state of affairs when the Greatest Rock n Roll Band in The World feel that they have to ride on the coat tails of the runaway success of a Scottish spinster's appearance on a cheesy, manufactured talent show.

In fairness, it's getting a fair amount of airplay. A bit dispiriting though to hear it being met by comments across the office floor such as "Is That Someone Else Singing That Susan Boyle Song?"
