Title: Guns N'Roses Back!!
Post by lotsajizz on Nov 17th, 2009 at 7:49pm
It begins, the World Tour--Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan in December, Canada in January and February, South America in March and April!!!  We're going to Montreal for the January 27th show.  The word is that the new album should be out by the end of '09.  To those who've not seen 'em this century, CHECK 'EM OUT!!  The two times I've seen the band were amongst the two best shows I've EVER seen!

Axl fuhevah!!

BAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!! We'll see about that. Chinese democracy was better than I expected though, Probably the best album of the year. It was a bit too sleek for my tastes though. And it wasn't worth the hype, the wait, or Axl's investement.

Chinese Democracy was such a terrible record. Unlistenable noise.

Oh Dear God. I'll admit to being a huge GNR fan back in the day. But I won tix from a local radio station about 2 years ago to catch the latest incarnation of the so called band. They were simply awful. They came on very, very late. Axl's voice was completey shot. The band played horrible, the audience hated them. We left after 3 songs.  That was at an arena. I did see them 6 monthes earlier at a theatre and they were actually pretty decent. But again aftere a lenghty wait. Axl Diva still has gotten over himself and the band behind is pretty bad at this point.

Last I heard Canada was part of North America.  And, btw, the new band is FAR better than the old outfit.

Why don't they call the band Axl Rose, Guns & Roses to me were the original band.

Well I'll see what the ticket prices are before I make a decision, and it its cheap enough I might go see them. I always loved Axl's voice, Sweet Child Of Mine is one of the best rock vocals ever!

I don't know what you mean by that Dude, but Axl rose is the only original member, & yet he calls the group Guns & Roses, that's like Ringo going out on tour & calling the band The Beatles.

2002 and 2006 were awesome!!  those weak jokes remind me of the late-night comedians laughing about the Stones wrinkles for the seventeenth time....

Notes from today's arena dress rehearsals in LA:

Richard Fortus is playing through a 1973 Jose Marshall along with a Friedman "Marsha" amp and some modified Randall modules, all driven by a Randall RT-2 power amp. His pedals are incorporated with all of the above (pictured) and are racked and switched through a custom system built by Dave Friedman of Rack Systems Ltd. Fortus has 2 Randall isolation cabinets with Celestion Golds and Celestion G12H loudspeakers. He's playing a Chet Atkins Gretsch guitar, a Gibson ES-335 and a bunch of Fender Telecasters and Gibson Les Pauls.
DJ is also using a "Marsha," as well as a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier tube amp. The Mesa Boogie plugs into a 4x12 with Golds and the Marsha is using V30's. DJ has a ton of different Les Paul's he's playing with.
Ron is sticking with his Engl heads played through Marshall 4x12s. He's using Vigier guitars. He has a double-neck Vigier with a fretless.
... And, just in case you were wondering, the lineup is still: Axl, Dizzy, Tommy, Chris, Richard, Ron, DJ and Frank.

The real disinformation is the thought that Chinese Democracy is a good album. Axl may own the rights to the name Guns N Roses, but Chinese Democracy is in no way representative of the band he was in with Slash and Izzy and Duff and Steven, and this new  ChineseD is one of the worst albums I've ever heard. It is overly angry, loud, obnoxious, and self-important. Where's the rock and roll riffs and hot licks that identified G n R tracks in years past? Ford those of you that don't know, this line up of the band only has one member from the original lineup-Axl. Slash, his long-time songwriting partner has been out of the picture for years.

I actually quite liked (and like) Chinese Democracy, very good songs, great variety, but the production is a bit "over the top"...am I reading this first message right in that a new album is expected this year ?!

As for the tour itinerary, it reminds me a bit of the Jagger "tour" of 1988, playing it safe...

I remember reading an interview with Axl after Chinese Democracy got released that it was intended to be the first of 3 scheduled between now and 2012, so by that logic something could come along next year.  That is of course to assume that Axl can successfully operate on a schedule, which he's done a pretty good job demonstrating that he can't.  But the impossible has already happened once, so who's to say that Axl didn't write & record more than the 14 songs on Chi Dem between 1996 and 2008?

And I think Chinese Democracy is excellent.  It's not 5 guys playing in a room together - its the opposite, and very thoroughly executed at that.  I can understand not being moved by the album's production, but not to appreciate the composition that went into it, you have to be in denial.

As far as Slash goes, he was great when he came out, but his style hasn't developed at all over time, and his playing doesn't have the same fire it used to either.  As far as I'm concerned the guy is just wasted talent at this point.

All over the place last time I heard.  "Better" alone is full of them.

You don't think they were overly angry, loud & self important before?  Have you ever listened to a Guns N Roses album?

I respect your opinion if you don't like the album or the new band, I recognize that there's plenty there not to like.  The album is too slick for its own good, but on the other hand some Stones albums are probably grittier than they need to be - but that doesn't mean I can't just roll with it

Their first album is one of the best rock and roll albums ever made. Slash did write-all of those hot leads! He also came up with melodies all over the Use your Illusions albums. The new album is not fun to listen to at all. Lotsofjizz, you are the dumbass here! This is not GnR-it's an Axl Rose album. Keep falling for his hype.

I've seen both versions of the band--as you obviously have not.  My opinion is thus informed and based on experience.  Yours is that of a dumbass reactionary frozen in time with adolescent memories of his first beer and first joint.  Slash composed some solos....wow.....subsequent events have shown who the songwriters were and are.....Izzy has more talent in his left pinky than Slash...

somewhere, I forget where....

btw....A Guns N' Roses concert scheduled for December 13th in Seoul, Korea -- the band's first gig ever in that country -- could set a new record for ticket sales in that nation, according to JoongAng Daily. Promoters said that tickets for the show, which is scheduled for a venue called the Olympic Park Gymnasium, are selling briskly, with representative Yvette Moon proclaiming on Monday (November 16th), "Ticket sales have already broken records set by other successful concerts we organized earlier in the year, like the Lady Gaga show this August."

Axl Rose Accosted by Belligerent Paparazzi at LAX

Lead singer of Guns N' Roses unhurt in encounter with unruly photographers

(Los Angeles) December 10, 2009 –
Axl Rose, lead singer for the legendary rock group Guns N' Roses, was unhurt last evening when he was accosted by an unruly group of paparazzi at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

At the time of the incident, Mr. Rose was en-route to Taipei, Taiwan, to kick-off Guns N' Roses’ tour of Southeast Asia including shows in Taiwan, Korea and Japan.

Mr. Rose, who was about to enter a security checkpoint at LAX when the altercation took place, was approached by a group of unchecked and unruly photographers who became aggressive with the singer and female members of the traveling group.

Mr. Rose was not injured during the unprovoked attack and was able to board his flight without further incident.

Right now, Guns n’ Roses are onstage rocking their first show in support of Chinese Democracy in Taipei, Taiwan, according to the band’s official Twitter, which launched today. (Watch footage from the band’s sound check below.)

As Rolling Stone reported yesterday, frontman Axl Rose was involved in a scuffle at Los Angeles International Airport as he traveled to the band’s first of four East Asian tour dates. TMZ now adds that Rose punched an “overzealous paparazzo” in the head, and the photographer claims to have footage of the altercation. UPDATE: The footage has been posted on TMZ. LAX police told Rolling Stone they had no record of the incident.

The photographer says Rose arrived at the airport with a woman in tow, and that he tried snapping a few photos of the couple. The woman, who was not named, got into a confrontation with the photogs, and when Rose noticed her scuffling with the paps he instantly started throwing punches.

A press statement released by Levine Communications Office, the public-relations firm that represents Rose and the band, defends Rose’s actions, and lays the blame flatly with the paparazzo.

“Axl Rose … was unhurt last evening when he was accosted by an unruly group of paparazzi at Los Angeles International Airport,” the statement, which is posted on the band’s MySpace, reads. “At the time of the incident, Mr. Rose was en-route to Taipei, Taiwan, to kick off Guns N’ Roses’ tour of Southeast Asia including shows in Taiwan, Korea and Japan. Mr. Rose, who was about to enter a security checkpoint at LAX when the altercation took place, was approached by a group of unchecked and unruly photographers who became aggressive with the singer and female members of the traveling group.”

The statement continues that Rose “was not injured during the unprovoked attack and was able to board his flight without further incident.”

Rolling Stone will have updates on the band’s first gig in nearly three years as information becomes available. Guns n’ Roses have scheduled shows in Canada during January and February, and South America in March and April. No U.S. dates have been announced.

The attention GnR gets continues to amaze me. One album in the 80s that was fun for 15 year olds, but other than that really don't know what the fuss is about. Crappy records and sub-par gigs with the occasional decent track. Quality wise, I'd say they were in league with a band like Twisted Sister (they went MIA in 88 or something, for a reason): nothing great, but fun when spinned in a bar full of drunken football hooligans. The end. And the small bit of talent of this band was in the guitars, not in the lyrics or the vocals. Axl sings like Beavis. As for his solo career: I wouldn't go to his gig if they gave me money.

"Guns N' Roses Continue Asian Onslaught"

The new Guns N' Roses are halfway through the first leg of the Chinese Democracy Asian Tour, with a couple Japanese concerts remaining. The band opened the tour in Taipei, Taiwan (Dec. 11) and continued on to Seoul, Korea on Dec. 13. The excitement of the tour has fans traveling the world to get the first glimpses of the band as the tour to support the 2008 CD Chinese Democracy. The band performed in Korea for the first time in their 24 year career and plans are already in the works to bring GNR to South America in 2010, after a round of 13 Canadian dates. There are no US dates announced yet.
The setlists so far have been different for each show, but contain a good number of Chinese Democracy selections and a nice blend of classic tracks. The title track has served as the opening cut of each show and would be a suitable opener for the entire tour.
"Seoul, Korea! Very good to be here with you tonight, thank you for havin' us!' lead vocalist Axl Rose told the Korean crowd. "Come on, tell me the truth, you didn't think I was coming, did you?"
Fans of both generations of GNR should be pleased with the song selections we've seen so far as most of the hits from the past and present are being performed, including Sweet Child O Mine, You Could Be Mine, Street Of Dreams and Paradise City. Reports from the press and from the fans are saying that the band sounds better than ever. Band members Richard Fortus (guitar), Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal (guitar) DJ Ashba (guitar), Tommy Stinson (bass) and Dizzy Reed (keyboards) have been given their chance to do solo numbers at each show.
Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal took a moment to check in with RockStar Weekly as he arrived in Japan for the second half of the Asian tour:
"Heeeey, just got to Osaka - the last two shows were such a pleasure, feels damn good to be back on the road," Bumblefoot told RockStar Weekly. "It's all a blur, and I like keeping it that way, only thinking about the next show, not the last show. But ya move ahead with a feeling that something special was shared in each place, makes it feel like coming home any time ya return. Now I have that connection to Taipei and Seoul that will always be there. It's the warmth and kindness of everyone there, they made it special, I can't thank them enough... looking forward to playing Osaka and Tokyo again this week, and starting off 2010 with Canada - see y'all soon! "
Next up on the Chinese Democracy Tour is Osaka, Japan on Dec. 16.

22? According to that rag, it was 24 years, is that when Axl was playing with Jeff Isbell in Indiana ? Charlie said the that over 25 years with the Stones, there was 5 years of work, with GNR that would be what, 6 weeks?

Anway, let's check that DIME torrent...

Oh I saw the list Jizz, but I´m affraid Axl would only impress me if het did some Exorcist shit on stage, but somehow I don´t think it´ll happen. Guns n' Roses just isn't for me, so I guess we'll have to agree to disagree (like we did on the other board, unless I'm mistaken).  Enjoy the gigs when they hit the States.

Frankly, I think you're right--the solos function as 'breathers'.  With the wailing and running around he does, he needs it.  His vocals are a tad more demanding than Mick's in general, for example.  And thank you, Teiz.

With hard rock legends Guns N' Roses back home in North America for the holidays, the iconic band can rest assured that the first leg of the Chinese Democracy Tour was a success. With four dates in select cities throughout Asia, the band - which performed together in this new incarnation for the first time - was out to kick off what should amount to a massive world-wide tour in 2010. The next stop for the band is a 13-city tour of Canada beginning January 13, 2010 in Winnipeg and traveling throughout the Great White North.

The new band consists of Axl Rose (lead vocals, piano, keyboards) Richard Fortus (lead guitar, backing vocals), Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal (lead guitar), DJ Ashba (lead guitar), Tommy Stinson (bass, backing vocals), Frank Ferrer (drums), Dizzy Reed (keyboards, piano), and Chris Pitman (keyboards, backing vocals).

RockStar Weekly has compiled a Comparison Chart of the Asian Tour Setlists, so fans can see and compare the songs that were performed. As the tour progressed, the shows got longer and the band added more songs. Download the Asian Tour Set List Chart here. We did not include solos and jam sessions. Please report any errors or serious omissions and we'll issue a correction.

Hundreds of amateur and professional video clips have been surfacing from these concerts, which show a band having fun, loving their audiences and performing a vast selection of songs. The final Tokyo Dome show on Dec. 19 was the longest of the Asian tour with the band performing 24 regular songs and 7 encores, along with various band member solos and jam sessions. Even vocalist Axl Rose couldn't help but comment in a recent Twitter announcement:

"3:37!! Put that in ur California roll!! Ha!! We all had the greatest time!! Throw in the bow n' Elvis n' we're over 3:40!! Thanks again 2 everyone who came 2gether 2 make these shows a success!! Thank U Taipei, Seoul, Osaka n' Tokyo!! R Thanks 2 the fans, promoters, venues n' my thanks 2 the band n' crew 4 makin' these shows n' this whole little excursion such a great personal experience!! Too amped!! Can't thank everyone enough!! Happy Holidays 2 everyone!! Merry Christmas n' Happy New Year!! See everyone in Canada where r mayhem will be served up hot n' fresh!! That's right kiddies!! Piping hot, frosty fresh n' jam packed w/savory "goodness"!! Ha!! "Hot coffee!!" "Comin' thru!!"

Axl Hints At New Guns N' Roses CD was a top story in January. Here it is again as we recap 2009: Metal Underground reports: Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose has hinted that a follow up to "Chinese Democracy" could be in the cards after finally breaking his silence over the long awaited album.
Speaking to various fan forums and message boards, the singer said there was a wealth of material left over which could be released in the near future. "For now we'll concentrate and keep our focus on this album but I will say I've always thought of it as a double," he said.
He also spoke about why the original line-up split and a recent court case brought by Duff McKagan and Slash, reports Billboard. "What I can say now is you've been told a lot of things in order for others to promote themselves that factually they cannot backup in regard to either," Rose said. "They are complicated legally, financially and have devoured a good portion of my life."

You made up that story about a new album coming out in 2009 and were caught with your pants down...then you tried directing me to a forum with just the index link (I've probably been a member of that forum longer than you have, but I'll pass on that), then 1+ month later you wake with a story that's been floating around since CD came out last year, actually before that, yes Axl has said several albums were ready, you're pathetic.

Anything else I can do for you? I though not...cheers

NOTES: This is the complete version of one of the most recent GN'R shows in Japan. It was filmed on the screens and released by a Japanese bootleg company called Sylph on January 5, 2010. It was part of a CDR + DVDR set called "Democracy at Tokyo", which is why the covers are CD-shaped. It's also available in a separate version (with different covers). The band played almost all of the Chinese Democracy album, except Riad N' The Bedouins and There Was A Time! They played some nice covers like Whole Lotta Rosie.
Total size is like 9GB so it's gonna take a while! Video quality is pretty good, and the sound is pretty loud! I'm not gonna say it's like a pro-shot...but it's a really good screenshot AUD video! 300dpi scans of covers are included. Please keep this info file if you torrent this elsewhere. I will upload the FLACs of the Tokyo CDRs later.

How's this for cool? I was talking to a bloke last night who plays poker at my club. He's a heavy metal dude. When Velvet REvolver came to Oz a couple of years ago, he bought a "VIP PACKAGE". Only cost him $350.

As it turns out, only 3 people bought a VIP deal, so got backstage and met the band. Slash and Duff plied him with bourbon and chatted with him for half an hour. He even got to wear Slash's hat! They signed posters for him and posed for heaps of photos.

Imagine our band doing that? And i dont mean just corporate meet and greet. Would never happen, would it. Not for $350 anyway.

Winnipeg, last night...They came on at 10:40 (early for them) and played 'till 1:40 (AM!)

http://www.torontosun.com/entertainment/music/2010/01/14/12461206-qmi.html

WINNIPEG - There might be better ways to kick off your 2010 concert calendar.
But offhand, I can't think of any. Wednesday night's Guns N' Roses show at Winnipeg's MTS Centre wasn't just the first date of the band's latest North American tour. It was also their first gig on these shores (and only their fifth performance overall) since the 2008 release of Chinese Democracy.
And even though Axl Rose kept all of us waiting nearly two decades for the album, and another year-and-change for a tour, the moment he hit the stage shortly after 10:40 p.m., all was forgiven. Supported by his latest version of GN'R -- guitarists Richard Fortus, Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal and DJ Ashba, keyboardists Dizzy Reed and Chris Pitman, drummer Frank Ferrer and bassist Tommy Stinson (formerly of The Replacements) -- the 47-year-old singer treated 7,500 fans to a fiery (in every sense of the word) three-hour set that wrapped up at 1:30 a.m., and repeatedly rewarded fans (along with nearly everyone in his backing band) for their loyalty and patience along the way. Here's how it went down:

Chinese Democracy
After the intro music builds tension in the dark, one of the guitarists -- I'm not sure who's who yet -- is spotlit as he cranks out the opening power-chord riff. As the band kicks into gear and Axl growls the first verse, sparklers ringing the stage fire off and we get our first look at him. He's wearing a black fedora over a red bandanna, a pair of slim shades, well-worn blue jeans and a pinstripe work shirt open to his midriff to frame a large silver crucifix. Oh, and he's got a mustache! It's midway between pirate, biker, bandito and Morgan Spurlock. Kinda weird. But at least he's lost the dreads or cornrows or whatever they were. When Axl wails the final worlds, "All I've got is precious time!" there's a pyro burst and the lights fade, leaving him backlit. Two points for a killer opening.

Welcome to the Jungle
As another guitarist (still getting my bearings there) works the niggly little riff, Rose jumps the gun and does the, "Do you know where you are? You're in the jungle, baybeee!" line. Actually, it's more like we're at the circus -- and not just because percussion bombs and fireworks are going off in time with the music. The stage itself is a massive structure with three runways -- in fact, it's so wide it overhangs the first five rows in the stands on both sides. It's covered in some sort of black vinyl or fabric and lined with glow-in- the-dark tape -- from overhead, it almost looks like one of those blobby Keith Haring figures with his circular hands in the air. The circular theme is carried on throughout the set. There's a cat-eye drum riser at stage centre, with an illuminated staircase going up and around on either side. Behind that are two pods for the keyboard players. Hanging above are a series of concentric lighting trusses festooned with VariLights and wrapped in lighting curtains (or whatever you call them). More of those illuminated curtains flank the stage, hanging in half-columns in front of vertical lighting trusses and some of the several video screens scattered around the place. Say what you will about Axl, he does things big.

It's So Easy
Another Appetite for Destruction tune. So far, so good. Axl has already lost the fedora and the shades. He bolts up to the mic, grabs the stand and hurls it back the 10 metres or so to the drum riser. Just to make it clear he's not kidding around, I guess. Gotta admit, he looks fit. Sure, he's a little beefier around the middle than 20 years ago. Who isn't? But he hasn't slowed down. He's sprinting from one end of the stage to the other and pumping his leg hard enough to make Angus Young look sedate. More fireworks herald the end of the tune.

Mr. Brownstone
"Meanwhile, back in the jungle," cracks Axl as Ferrer pounds out a heavy tom-tom beat to go with the scraping guitar riff. As Rose does that snake-hip move he used to do back in the day, those circular lighting rigs dip down from the rafters at opposing angles. Interesting. Also interesting: Every time there's an instrumental break or a solo -- even if it's only for 30 seconds -- Rose sprints off the stage. Not sure why, though it looks like he's making sure the rest of the band get time in the spotlight.

Shackler's Revenge
After a few pleasantries from Axl -- including a simple, "Nice to be here with you tonight" and a crack about the weather (which is actually unseasonably warm) -- the electronica-rocker from Chinese Democracy lurches into a groove. White spotlights start twirling as if there's been a prison break, and the light trusses drift apart into arcs and tier up on different levels. Between the eight guys flying around the stage and the show, there's plenty to attract (and distract) your attention.

Richard Fortus Spotlight
After introducing Fortus, Rose takes a hike while the Izzy Stradlinesque guitarist cranks out a twangy guitar-rock instrumental reminiscent of the James Bond and Peter Gunn themes. See what I meant about sharing the spotlight?

Live and Let Die
Flames and more grenades decorate and punctuate the Paul McCartney cover from Use Your Illusion. Axl has switched into a sleeveless shirt and the fedora is back. His rusted-siren vocals are strong and he's hitting all the notes solidly, though the PA isn't doing him any favours -- if he isn't belting, you have to strain to hear him. After the song, bassist Stinson pitches a little hissy fit at some dude who apparently chucked something at him. "Don't throw s--- at me, please; I'll f---ing leave!" he complains. Guess he had enough crap heaved at him in the Mats to last a lifetime. Anyway, he takes off up onto the drum riser for the next song.

Sorry
This sluggish grinder is not one of my favourite Chinese Democracy cuts, but guitarist Ashba (now that I can tell him and Fortus apart, I'm good) serves up a blistering solo.

If the World
Still in Chinese Democracy land. Bumblefoot opens this slow-burning funk cut with the flamenco licks from the album. Gotta give the band credit; they're doing a decent job of recreating Rose's insanely detailed tracks. The sound is obviously nowhere near as crisp, but hey, you can't have everything.

Dizzy Reed Spotlight
A grand piano rolls out from beneath the drum riser so the stringy- haired keyboardist can throw down some solo chops. The song is familiar, but I can't place it -- maybe because I'm too busy trying to figure out if that's supposed to be toes or fingernails or what painted on the piano lid. The sides, meanwhile, are covered in little mirror-ball tiles. It's like hippies broke into the Liberace museum or something.

Street of Dreams
Dizzy stays down at the piano for this Democracy power ballad. Rose emerges in shirt No. 3 -- a shiny black number. No bandanna. After the tune ends, drummer Ferrer goes 'Boom, boom, boom-boom" on his bass drum again -- he's been doing that between songs. Then I get it: It's so people will chant: "Guns N' Roses." Sneaky.

Better
The lighting trusses do more aerial ballet over the stage as the band works through another one of Rose's ballad-to-rocker numbers from Chinese Democracy. His right leg is kicking like Stompin' Tom on speed.

You Could be Mine
Finally, another classic. Or at least an oldie. This barnburner from Use Your Illusion II gets a solid treatment, with more concussion bombs for emphasis. And a silver-plated .45 swirling around on the video screens just for, um, I dunno, menace? Flames shoot up around the stage during the last chorus. Oh, Axl has a new bandanna: It's blue and white, FYI.

DJ Ashba Spotlight
After a few more pleasantries -- including a belated, "Happy f---ing holidays to you" -- Rose vacates again so Ashba can peel off a blistering solo on his black sequined axe while the band lays down a slow, There Was a Time-style backbeat. Not sure which is more impressive: His playing, or his full-sleeve tats.

Sweet Child o' Mine
The crowd has been well behaved so far -- no moshing and little surfing -- but this hit brings them to their feet. While red and white lights bathe the stage, Rose debuts shirt No. 4: A red-checked V-neck pullover that looks intentionally dirty. I just noticed he also has red tape wrapped around his left hand -- whether because of an injury or just because it matches his red microphone, I have no idea. Bumblefoot handles the wah-wah pedal guitar solo capably.

I.R.S.
If I were writing the set list, I might have tossed another oldie in here instead of this midtempo Chinese Democracy grinder. Especially since it sounds distractingly muddier than the album version.

Axl Piano Solo
That weird-looking keyboard rolls out again -- all the way to the front of the stage -- so Axl can tinkle the ivories. He's wearing a long-tailed burgundy coat with big buttons and a black leather fedora. You know, most people wouldn't be able to pull that off. Most people aren't Rose, of course.

November Rain
Rose stays at the 88 to lead the band through the Use Your Illusion epic. The three guitarists divide the solos, while the lighting trusses split and descend, and sparklers go off at the back of the drum riser and on the stairs. Not sure how rain and sparklers go together, but it looks nice anyway.

Scraped
Instead of the layered vocals on the album, the Chinese Democracy cut opens with tribal tom-tom drumming. The rest of the tune is pretty much the same -- but Bumblefoot's solo on the fretless half of his double-neck guitar is impressive. Axl has a different blue-and-white bandanna. How many of these things does this guy own?

Bumblefoot Spotlight
The other guitarists showed off. Bumblefoot plays to the crowd -- first he does a Hendrix-style version of O Canada, then he makes with a rocked-up take on the Pink Panther theme. Nice to see a rocker with a sense of humour.

Out Ta Get Me
Back to the oldies. More fireworks and sparklers illuminate Rose's latest ensemble: A black-and-red lumberjack number. This guy changes more often than Beyonce -- and it looks like almost all of his outfits came from Mark's Work Warehouse. The spotlights do their prison-break thing again, and the concussion blast at the end of the song makes me jump. You'd think I would be used to them by now.

Knockin' on Heaven's Door
"This is dedicated to the people who hate us," is what I think Axl says before Dylan's classic. Or maybe it was, "This is dedicated to the people of Haiti," which probably makes more sense. But your guess is as good as mine. Anyway, he launches into a long shaggy-dog story (which is actually about a dog named Mojo) in the middle of the song. I only catch about half of it. I'm not sure I missed anything important. We have now passed the two-hour mark.

Nightrain
A train-whistle (natch) introduces the cowbell-rock ode to cheap wine. Bumblefoot whips off another fretless solo, the band fires on all cylinders and charges toward the end -- which is marked by yet another explosion. "Good night," says Axl and bolts -- as do a decent chunk of the audience (it's already after midnight on a school night).

Madagascar
The encore begins with this ambitious Chinese Democracy number, which features Rose's mid-song sonic collage of Martin Luther King, Mississippi Burning, Cool Hand Luke, Braveheart and others. The video screens show MLK graphics and footage to go with. Thankfully, I don't see any Braveheart footage.

This I Love
The piano rolls out one last time for another Chinese Democracy ballad. At the end, Rose fesses up that he: "kinda f---ed that up in the beginning." I'm too tired to notice.

Frank Ferrer Drum Solo
Mercifully brief. Nothing against him; it's just getting really freaking late.

Rocket Queen
But not late enough to miss this Appetite for Destruction gem. Axl straightarms the mic below his waist and does a two-step while Ashba handles the slide solo. Just like old times. Almost.

My Generation
Bassist Stinson tackles The Who's classic for his spotlight tune. His vocals are suitably snotty -- and he doesn't embarrass himself on the John Entwistle solo either. For the record, everybody but second keyboardist Chris Pitman has now had a solo. Sorry Chris; your goofy straw hat is the problem.

Patience
Rose draws cheers as soon as he starts whistling the opening. But once he begins singing the mellow part, his voice sounds a little ragged. Which is no surprise, since he's been going full throttle for more than two-and-a-half hours. Maybe they need to move this up in the set list. Oh, and he has now changed into a white T-shirt with a filthy slogan on it. I have officially lost count of his outfits. And I'm pretty sure I missed at least one in there.

Paradise City
All the stops come out: The lighting trusses dance, bombs go off, the lights are cranked, the confetti cannons erupt, coloured mini- fireworks burst forth -- and as the song whams to a close with one final explosion, silver streamers are launched over the crowd. Cheapskates. "Oh won't you please take me home?" sings Rose. Well, no -- but we will go home ourselves. And we'll go satisfied. And very, very tired.

BOTH Axl and Slash called that report a lie two days ago.  Where have people been?  Slash and the rest have been gone for fifteen years now and GnR has continued with several tours since then.  The past ain't coming back.  Good riddance!  The 2009-2010 edition of the band is FAR better!

It seems you have problems understanding what you read (like that new 2009 album you thought had been announced) it's not a "report" it's an interview of Slash "As Slash prepares for the arrival of his star-studded solo album, due in April, in a new interview with GQ magazine the guitarist revealed he has turned down tens of millions of dollars to reunite with Guns N’ Roses. "I can't remember exact numbers, but [the offers have been] excessive," he said. "Seven, eight-digit kinds of things."

Night belongs to Axl
By Mike Ross Edmonton Sun

Sunday night the 17th
Guns ’N’ Roses is the perfect example of a rock band whose parts are greater than the sum.
There’s one particular part that stands out. Axl Rose — whose name is an anagram of “oral sex,” just thought you’d like to know — is one of the most unpredictable, temperamental, flamboyant and explosively volatile frontmen in rock ‘n’ roll history.
You never know if he’s going to touch off a riot, punch a paparazzi, diss one of his former fellow band members, storm off the stage in a snit or figuratively kick your ass in one of the finest (and latest) rock shows ever seen in Edmonton.
Some love him. Some hate him. There is no middle ground. At least he’s not boring.
Sure, we missed Slash during Sunday night’s show at Rexall Place, but there were three — count ’em — excellent guitarists to pick up the slack, Richard Fortus, Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal and DJ Ashba (who sported a silly tophat and started the show with a cigarette sprouting from his maw, obviously a nod to Mr. Slash).
No one in a crowd of 9,800 seemed to mind the new incarnation of the famous band that bridged the gap between hair metal and grunge rock.
When our favourite bad boy of rock commenced to howl Welcome to the Jungle early on, no one complained that this was just some overblown G’NR tribute band with an older and hairier frontman.
No one would’ve been able to hear any grumbling anyway. The cheers were deafening. So was the band. So were the explosions.
The 47-year-old Axl sang like a champ. His musicians were amazing. So was the stage production. It’s early, but this might have been the best rock show of 2010.
The old joke of making fans wait eons for the new record Chinese Democracy should remind us that people in China have been waiting a lot longer for democracy, which might never come anyway.
At least G’NR fans got the album — finally — a hearty dose of which was administered Sunday night.
The show opened (fashionably late at 10:30 p.m.) with the title track, not the most memorable G’NR song ever made.
Better was a funky — funky from G’NR, imagine that — reading of If the World, an epic tune touched with Meatloafian bombast. The same goes for weird and fascinating new songs like Shackler’s Revenge, Scraped and the power ballad Street of Dreams.
But the natives did start to get restless with Axl’s self-indulgence, despite the obvious passion with which he threw himself into the new material.
This crowd clearly came to hear the Gunner’s classics, Slash or no Slash, which included everything from November Rain — perhaps the finest power ballad ever made — to Paradise City, the last encore expected well into the wee hours of the morning.
Especially stunning was a version of Sorry (relatively) early in the night. Axl knew he nailed it, even took a bow afterwards.
And after a long spell of relatively unfamiliar if dramatic music, the double hit of Sweet Child O’ Mine and the rollicking You Could Be Mine gave the crowd the powerful bong hit of nostalgia they’d been waiting for.
November Rain, with Axl on piano — in a red velvet topcoat doing his best Elton John impersonation — sent the fans over the top.
Yes, this night (and this early morning) belonged to Axl and his new and I daresay improved version of the Gunners, no offence to Slash, Izzy and the rest of the old guys. There’s no turning back now.

There’s no point being meek with your opening acts when you’re Axl Rose.
Sebastian Bach, the leather-clad jester of hair metal, primed the pump admirably for the sonic ass-kicking to come — from the opening of Back in the Saddle, or should that be Bach in the Saddle, to the closing of Youth Gone Wild, which really should be Middle Aged Guys Gone Wild, which is altogether more unexpected and frightening.
Whatever. Bach and his boys delivered the goods, freighted with the full complement of swagger, snarl and Hollywood throwback rock ’n’ roll antics so over the top that they transcended their own absurdity.
It really is possible to laugh your ass off and have it kicked at the same time. Canadians ought to know. As the 41-year-old singer so aptly put it, “I know Canada kicks ass because I’m from Canada— and I kick ass!”
Seems to be a running theme here.
While Danko Jones played the opening set to a lot of empty chairs (plus what amounted to a bar-ful of diehards crowded to the front of the stage), that didn’t prevent Canada’s most ridiculous rock star from belting out his testosterone-fuelled tunes.
Danko’s subject matter deals with either sex, large things that blow up, such as volcanoes, or rock songs about rocking.
Typical lyrics include “if you wanna know how to play the blues, get yourself a woman” and “when I’m behind the wheel, I’m in the fast lane” — well, of course he is! — all delivered with something between a snarl and a sneer.
This guys hasn’t changed his schtick in 14 years — and I‘m still not sure if he‘s serious or not.

"Epic" Version Of Guns N' Roses Conquers Regina
Firstly, allow me to make a confession! I am not an archetypal Guns N Roses fan. I own but one of their recordings and  in fact, when I last saw GNR on March 27, 1993 (use your Illusion tour) in the beautiful “Bridge City” commonly referred to as Saskatoon, it was solely due to their superb choice of support acts – “The Brian May Band’. Yes Brian May guitar player extraordinaire from the Legendary group Queen. Not to be confused with the Brian May from Mad Max fame.

At any rate, 16 years 9 months and 24 days have passed (but who’s counting) and my opportunity to see the legendary Axl “you love him, you hate him, you can’t have a good old fashioned rock n’ roll riot without him)”Rose is here. This time, I’m posed to see the much lauded ‘Chinese Democracy Tour’ in Regina, AKA ‘The Queen City’, AKA ‘The City That Rhymes with Fun’– more on that later, in the comfy confines of the acoustically challenged Brandt Centre. My curiosity has the better of me. Will he be late?  How Late?  One hour? 2 Hours? Will he storm out? Will he even show up? Is he still capable of delivering the goods? The questions mount.
IMHO, the words “rock star”, “epic”, and “legend” are more common these days than candy floss at the local summer fair. Well, allow me to remove all doubt that this incarnation of the multi-million selling (100 million at last count) American rockers are not only alive and well – thank you very much, but in fact, they make a compelling argument to be regarded in the aforementioned rock star, epic, legend status.
From the moment Axl and Company took the stage at precisely 10:16 pm, opening with ’Chinese Democracy’, Axl clad in a button down, white collar, long sleeve stripped shirt, (sans the sleeves) and adorned with enough silver jewelry to make any Mexican beach vendor proud (I swear I saw him in Puerto Vallarta last year – true story) and with trademark red bandanna tucked under a black hat, he had the crowd on their feet, which is precisely where the majority of the 5,500 fans stayed for 2 ½ hours until the show closed with ‘Paradise City’.
As Axl sashayed and prowled effortlessly about the stage, it became apparent very quickly that Father Time has been rather kind to Axl.  His soon to be 48 years belies him. He looks and moves about with a presence and energy that reminds us that you don’t have to be a middle age rocker who well…looks middle age.
The between song banter was minimal at best, with Mr. Rose telling the crowd “good to be here tonight – I feel pretty good considering how much tequila I drank last night” Hey wait a minute, TEQUILA, MEXICO… I swear that was him! Axl later informed the crowd that this was his second show of the day, as earlier he did an impromptu performance at a local A&W. Although my sources say it was actually a Taco Time. Of course no rock show in Regina would be complete without the obligatory reference of Regina being the city that rhymes with fun. In this case, immediately before ‘Knockin’ on Heavens Door’, Axl suggested he “heard this is the city that rhymes with fun.” Regardless of how it’s delivered, the crowd obliged as they have become known to do. This appears now to be a full-on tradition in these parts.
As GNR blinded and deafened the crowd with a dizzying display of lights, explosions and pyro, while playing such mega hits as ‘Welcome to the jungle’, ‘Live and Let Die’ (an argument could be made here that the explosions were excessive) and closer to the end of the show ‘Sweet Child O’Mine’, but most certainly during ‘November Rain’ that I conjured up the hereto unforeseen and unbearable notion that perhaps the 80’s were not so bad after all. In fact, GNR was quickly proving to me that 80’s arena rock is alive and well.
In addition to Axl, ( the only original member) the band consists of Frank Ferrer - drums, Tommy Stinson – bass guitar , Richard Fortus – rhythm guitar, Ron (Bumblefoot) Thai – lead guitar, Dizzy Reed on keyboards, Chris Pitman keyboards and DJ Ashba also on lead guitar. These guys are not just “window dressing” for Axl that’s a for sure. These guys can all play. What a novel concept!
Rock Star? Absolutely! Epic? No Question! Legend? The jury is out on that one, but on this rather chilly night in “The City That Rhymes with Fun” no one, (myself included) would argue that Guns and Fucking Roses  showed up, on time, and delivered the goods to a satisfied audience that were left wanting more. In my case, if I have to wait another 16 years 9 months and 24 days to see them again it’s quite conceivable that “Legend” will be in Axl’s back pocket.

On Tuesday we left for Montreal at 8:40 AM and, after a smooth drive, were checked in at the Hitlon Bonaventure in downtown Montreal by 3 in the afternoon.  It’s a nice hotel, very urban ‘60’s chic with funky split levels.  Most importantly was its pool so I could keep my mile a day swim streak going.  The pool was outdoors, but heated to 85 or so Fahrenheit and you entered it from an indoor chamber.  Once outside, your only choice is to start swimming and keep swimming!  Anyway, we dined in some fancy Montreal eatery on Tuesday—tuna tarare, mushroom risotto, champagne, yum!  Morning swim on Wednesday, then scouting out the underground passage (much of Montreal is underground) from our hotel to the Centre Bell where the show would be held….perhaps a 15 minute trek.  I escorted my wife to her noon-time mass (old habits) and then headed to the hotel bar for martinis while she prayed for me!  More city walking, some shopping, then nap time.  We woke around 7 and then warmed up for the show, leaving the hotel room about 8:30-ish.  We got to the venue shortly before 9 and then it took some 10 minutes to get in the door and through security.   My flask of cognac in my sock past un-noticed.  Sebastian Bach was on-stage.  We got a couple of coffees and settled in the back of the arena’s grandstand to see the old hair-metal veteran do his shtick.  He has a great voice, but the dubbing of certain high echoes was noticeable and annoying.  He played ‘till about 9:30 and as soon as he left the stage my wife and I got up and moved down to the floor.  As people left the floor after Bach to beer up or hit the bathrooms, we took their place.  Steady infiltration led us to stage right, maybe 20 feet from the front, but less than 15 from the protruding wing---and no one taller than us in front!  Then the waiting game, putting up with the crushes of would-be infiltrators and steadily moving up every time someone vacated a spot.  Finally at 10:30, lights out!

The roar goes up and the theme from the old Perry Mason show covers the arrival to the stage of the musicians…the Chinese voice scramble begins….
There he is!!!  The soundscape builds, explosions and fireworks!!
Chinese Democracy, the first song—with that opening riff slicing off the tops of 15,000 skulls!
Axl—in boots, jeans, white dress/button shirt half undone, rings, silver wrist jewelry and looking mean and trim picks up a tossed scarf at the end of the song and wears it—grinning!
“You know where you are?? I think you do, you’re in Montreal, you gonna DIIIIIII---EEEEE-IIIIIIEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!”
Welcome to the Jungle----perfect, the mutant, tattooed guitar duet of Fortus and Ashba slashing away far better then their predecessors and Bumblefoot picking away with a virtuosity on the solo that leaves us breathless!
It's So Easy explodes!  Axl’s voice is growing stronger and he’s running around like a madman.  The snake dance appears.
Mr. Brownstone is up next, and the addiction tale sounds fresher than ever.  At the end, Axl declares “I think I recognize some of you, yeah that's right”—the first hint at the last time in Montreal---the notorious 1992 riot that proved so much a foreshadowing!
Sorry was next---and it was NOT an apology!  His vocals are incredible---no doubt helped by his one-ever-few-minutes-backstage-for-a-blast-of-oxygen---and the band is tighter than the other couple of times I’ve caught their epic performances!
Up next, Fortus, Richard Fortus---this freakish/alien-looking Ron Wood-resembling guitar ace then burns through an instrumental jam with the band on the James Bond/007 theme!
Live and Let Die (with RED flames instead of normal ones)—we had seen it before live and were ready, but many on the floor seemed stunned by the explosions!
If the World—an industrial/NIN-type rocker with soaring vocals proved a showcase for a Tommy Stinson/Bumblefoot duet.  Stinson is perhaps the most under-rated bassist in rock…truly a Giant!
Better---the changes handled with precision, all the band coming to set up right in front of us at one point, just 15 feet away---eye contact made with Axl on this song finally!  He’s in a great/playful mood despite the channeled rage!
Then the band introductions "On the drums a real pisser of a fellow, Mr. Frank Ferrer"—0—he might be a pisser but this burly, biker-lookin’ dude was slammin’ the skins with precision all night!
Then the band jammed while Axl took a breather and the grand piano was rolled out for Dizzy Reed’s turn in the spotlight, a jam built around Sly & The Family Stone’s “Don’t Call Me Nigger, Whitey…Don’t Call Me Whitey, Nigger”
Street of Dreams---vocals are devastatingly strong here, the women are swooning here…several nice sets are flashed during the song….and the band is appreciative!
You Could be Mine---a kaleidoscope of whirling lights and sound and Axl running all over the place…the guitarists variously settling in front of us to flip us some pics and smile and pose and solo to the Gods!
DJ Ashba Solo---a worthy successor to the Buckethead image—a weird, tattooed-from-head-to-to-freak who can play guitar like nobody’s business, wears a ton of make-up and has his lips pierced, but has a baby-face and a child-like smile as he jams…he does a variation of the “Ballad of Death”…leading to
Sweet Child O' Mine—DJ wailing on the opening air-raid/circus/Fripp-like opening.
I.R.S.—Axl sings it with a vengeance!  Two guys pass out in front of me and are carried out by security…I advance and reach the front rail!  The last of my flask is drained here!
November Rain---out comes the piano…Axl does a long intro based on Elton John’s “Somebody Saved My Life Tonight”….he nails this song and the girls are swooning and showing their tits again!  Ah, rock n’roll…Fortus and Ashba smile down approvingly.
Next is an instrumental band jam built around Zep’s Immigrant Song—Axl hums it, but does not sing it.
Now it is time for Ron Thal’s (Bumblefoot) solo jam—the Pink Panther theme. cute and well-played, but a tad long.
An epic Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door ensues - Axl wearing a white cowboy hat and commenting how it’s a nice change not always be wearing the black hat and being the villain!  He gets the crowd going in a singalong!
Out To Get Me—to the stratosphere….Axl becomes Satan and God and more all rolled into one, a whirling dervish of fiendish, shrieking incendiarity!  At this point I finally admit to myself that this is indeed the finest rock performance I’ve witnessed in a life of hundreds of concerts!   I was delayed and distracted in this conclusion by the French-Canadian goddess in front of me who kept moving back on me and wished to do a grind-dance….but the wife was there and watching so I kept having to suck in my gut and dance back.  When she looked back, she glanced at my wedding ring, smiled, and moved up a little….oh, rock n’roll…’tis surely the Devil’s music!
The whistle of the introduction for Patience comes up as my Gallic brunette turns back….Axl sounds a little rough here and takes it in a lower register, but nails the ending!  Bumblefoot adds sweet acoustic pickin’.
And then the industrial/hip-hop/metal of Shacklers Revenge kicks in, Axl really into it and hand-motioning the changes.
Night-train---the stratosphere is reached!  Manic stage-right to stage-left dashing amidst crooning about the joys of alcohol abuse on the road!  The final vocals are stringer and louder than I’ve ever heard Axl before!  They leave the stage and the crowd commences begging for more!

Encores:

Madagascar
Scraped
This I Love
Paradise City---The four song encore set a dizzying mix of techno, ballads, hatred, anger, rage, love, and mindless speeding joy as we all drink it in while it lasts….DJ tosses me a pic!  During the last song, someone tossed a Quebec flag on stage  and Axl wraps himself in it to swelling applause.
They leave the stage and then all emerge, hands linked.  Axl grabs two dozen roses (aw!) and tosses them into the crowd.  Then two hotties come out and hand the band slices of lime and tequila shots.  The band members pass out several shots to the crowd—I did not get one—and then down the shots after a toast to Montreal.  Then Axl went to the mic and said...“you Montrealers deserve the truth”, he then paused and delivered a wicked smile and announced “…….but not tonight”.  They then turned around and left!
It was then 1:15 AM.
We lingered a few moments to gather ourselves and slowly walked out.  The underground pathway to our hotel was locked when the Metro closed at 1 AM.  We had to walk the final five blocks back to the hotel in 15F, biting wind, and snow.  I was glad I tied my sweater around my waste before the show!  Even the, it was a cold walk back!  Not enough sleep and then a drive through all-day snow squalls back to RI.
In sum, this band is currently the greatest rock combination on the planet.  See them!!

I have been a fan of GnR since 1986 and have seen the band multiple times with the original members in 87, 88, 91, 92 and the new lineups in  2002 and 2006...

Not sure I agree the new lineup is better than the original. The new band is certainly slicker and more disciplined but they don't have the raw energy that made the original so unique. Almost like a tribute band fronted by Axl now I think.......

For me it's like comparing the 69-73 Stones to the post 89 Stones....The modern era Stones were much tighter but they didn't have the energy and mojo of the golden era band......

In any case it really is just the "Axl Rose Band" now isn't it? Sort of like if Mick Jagger had toured as the Stones back in 88 with his excellent backup band............Not to say Axl's band doesn't  put on a good show, which they do, but lets call it what it really is............

That being said I think Chinese Democracy is a very good album but GnR it ain't so I can understand some not liking it.......

Hope they do tour the U.S. as I would go see them just as I have every post 89 Stones tour..I just won't go expecting the 86-89 Gunners....or even the 91-93 incarnation for that matter.............just a hoping for a stellar peformance of the Axl Rose Band playing songs from his solo album with a nice sprinkling of the old GnR classics.......

Old School you made a good point, in my opinion a band is never as good as the original, they can slick it up all they want, but it just doesn't have the drive that the original band has, case in point is Alice Cooper, along with Axle Rose's tribute band, the original Alice Cooper band not only had the drive, but they wrote most of the songs, came up with the make-up (Dennis Dunaway) & the snake (Neal Smith) & most of the big hits (Michael Bruce) the great lead guitar parts (Glenn Buxton) now I'm getting into the Alice Cooper band, which I know a lot of, but Guns & Roses ain't that different.
When a Lead Singer hires all new guys, their just a back up band or a tribute band.

I know you are trying to be clever but actually very similar to when Mick Taylor joined the Stones as many think that was the Stones "Golden" period when they were at the height of their power..

As I am sure you know GnR existed briefly before Slash, and Steven joined, with a Tracey Guns, Ole Beich, Rob Gardner, and later Duff in two different incarnations of the band, but the Golden period for many is the 86 to 89 lineup with Axl, Izzy, Slash Duff and Steven........

For many fans the real GnR stopped when steven was sacked and Izzy quit and the new version is nothing more than the Axl Rose band with a bunch of hired hands...so thanks you made my point for me........

When Taylor joined The Stones, they were a new band, their weren't trying to cover a Brian Jones period, the material they used was all new, they toured that way too, the material they used is what Taylor played on in the studio, except for Satisfaction, I'm Free, Under My Thumb & a few songs from Beggars (I'm talking about the '69 tour) & even that they never played live on tour (Beggars songs)

No I understand, Axl has an excellent backing band and they are playing very well these days. I do hope they tour the US and I get a channce to see them as I look forward to hearing more Chinese Democracy songs  live as I think it is even better live than on the album. Don't care to hear the old material so much without the old members though as it is too much like a tribute band for me....

I just don't agree that they are GnR anymore with Axl the only original member. He owns the name and can do whatever he wants with it but seems rather sad to me that he has to live off of the old name instead of just calling it what it is now which is the Axl Rose Band with a bunch of hired hands.

To me it is no different then if Sir Mick had toured as the Stones back in 88...He played a bunch of Stones songs along with his solo material so what is the difference? BTW I am not buying the argument that the Stones had not split up and whereas all the other members of Guns had quit so that makes it o.k. as this is a copout to justify Axl's agenda..

The new GnR reminds me of the post 89 Stones as the playing is excellent but the old fire and mojo is just not there on the old material.......

Just curious if you had a choice of going back in time and attending any show from GnR from 86-88 or any show from the new lineup would you really rather see the new band???

To answer your question, the new band is FAR better!  I saw GnR back in '88--they sucked, I saw 'em again in '92--Slash was AWFUL!  I've said it before---this new version is BEST GnR EVER!!

GUNS N' ROSES played a suprpise acoustic show last night (Thursday, February 11) at a private party for fashion designer John Varvatos at his New York City store (located at the old CBGB space) as part of Fashion Week.

The band's setlist was as follows:

01. You're Crazy
02. Mr. Brownstone
03. I Used To Love Her
04. Welcome To The Jungle
05. Street Of Dreams
06. Sorry
07. It's So Easy
08. Band Intros --> Patience
09. Rocket Queen
10. Jam --> Catcher In The Rye
11. My Michelle
12. Knockin' On Heaven's Door
13. Whole Lotta Rosie
14. Paradise City

Encore:

15. Sweet Child O' Mine
16. This I Love
17. Nighttrain

http://oglobo.globo.com/cultura/mat/2010/03/08/guns-roses-leva-fas-saudosistas-as-lagrimas-em-brasilia-916010914.asp

BRASILIA, Brazil - After nine years without setting foot in Brazil, Guns N 'Roses seem to have started on the right foot a Brazilian tour to present the CD "Chinese Democracy." More than 13 thousand people crowded into the stadium Nilson Nelson in Brasilia, on Sunday night, and cheered the band's sound led by Axl Rose for two hours. Even the skeptics were surprised with the presentation. Some nostalgic who danced packed by the group in the 80's and 90 did not hide the tears of the end of the show.

The album "Chinese Democracy" took no less than 13 years to complete and broke the 3rd place in the Billboard Top 200. But the highlight of the show were the great classics of the band of 90 years. "Sweet Child O'Mine" and "Knocking on Heaven's Door", with solo guitar and DJ Ashba "November Rain" with Axl Rose at the piano led the crowd wild. At 2:40, when he thought the show was over, the band returned to the stage for an encore. Far from the atmosphere to party, "Paradise City" was entitled to special effects pyrotechnics and a series of bombs that exploded screaming fans.

The original lineup, left only Axl Rose. No show this Sunday, Rose took the opportunity to introduce the newest member of the group, guitarist and composer Dj Ashba, which was received by the band in March of last year. Ashba co-produced the award-winning album of Mötley Crüe, "Saints of Los Angeles (2007). The group also has Tommy Stinson (bass), Bumblefoot (guitar), Chris Pitman (keyboards and bass), Richard Fortus (guitar and guitar), Dizzy Reed (keyboards) and Frank Ferrer (drums).

In Brazil, the band still performs in Belo Horizonte on Wednesday (at Mineirinho) in Sao Paulo on 13th (Park Antarctica), in Rio de Janeiro on 14 (the Apotheosis Square) and in Porto Alegre 16 days (in Gigantinho).

The show was opened in Brasilia by the former lead singer of Skid Row, Sebastian Bach, who sang for an hour and still risked long sentences in perfect Portuguese but unmistakable accent: "We are happy to play in Brazil's capital," Today Brasilia is the capital of rock and roll "and" Are you ready to Guns N 'Roses? ". Bach is a personal friend of Axl Rose and has opened the band's concerts since 2005. He goes on tour around Brazil. Even after leaving Skid Row in 1996, Sebastian Bach continued to compose. His last album, "Angel Down" was released in 2007 and has Axl Rose on three tracks (Back in the Saddle, (Love Is) A Bitchslap, Stuck Inside).

In the evening, at 20.30, the band brasiliense Khallice and vocalist Alírio Neto, also gave a straw. The crowd arrived early to the stadium. At 13, the queue of fans was already long. The gates should open for 17 hours, but there was a delay of one hour. Although the show has started on time, the entry of Guns N 'Roses ended up taking much more than the organizers imagined. The first song, "Chinese Democracy" began to be played at 00.20.

Guns N'Roses have sold around the world 100 million albums, of which 43 million in the United States. The debut album "Appetite for Destruction has sold more than 28 million copies, launched a bandana hall of fame. The first presentation was in Brazil in 1991, was followed by three concerts in Sao Paulo and Rio in 1992. Nearly ten years later returned to Brazil, during the Rock in Rio 3, an event that marked the largest audience the band's history: about 250 thousand people.

The tour of "Chinese Democracy" began in Taiwan. Passed by South Korea and Japan show held in the city of Osaka was history, with nearly three and a half hours long. At the end of last year, the band still stayed in Canada.

Axl Rose Accuses Ex-Manager of Sabotaging GNR
NewsBy Peter Gaston on May 19, 2010 10:58 AM

Guns N' Roses singer Axl Rose has filed a countersuit against his former manager, claiming Irving Azoff and his company, Front Line Management, attempted to sabotage Rose's "new" version of GNR so he'd reunite with Slash and the band's classic lineup.

According to gossip site TMZ, Rose alleges in his $5 million countersuit that Azoff was "devising and implementing a secret plan to set up Rose and the band for failure so that Rose would have no choice but to reunite with the original Guns N' Roses' members," a move Axl had resisted. Rose also took issue with Azoff's decision to file his original lawsuit against William Bailey, the singer's real name -- something that "carries significant emotional damage from Rose's childhood."

According to TMZ, Azoff -- who also serves as CEO for Ticketmaster -- has already responded to Rose's countersuit: "On advice of counsel I cannot respond at this time, but will discuss in my upcoming book, My Life with William Bill Bailey." Ouch!

Question--what is the general feeling around here of the cover of Sympathy for the Devil they put out back in '94?

They also did in 1990 two different (unreleased) versions of Jumpin' Jack Flash--One electric and one acoustic:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmN2weuTJ1c Electric

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbC2CzG2QrM&feature=related Acoustic.

My favorite era for Guns are the 1990-1994 era--From around '91-'93 they were the biggest band in the world and I think had they kept going they would've been the Stones for Generation X/Generation Y.

Most GnR fans disliked their 'Sympathy' cover, but I liked it.  I also dug their JJF's, especially the acoustic one.  BTW, Guns N' Roses have confirmed concert dates at The Odyssey Arena, Belfast on 31 August 2010 and The O2, Dublin on 01 September, 2010.

Eager to become the talk of every music fans' Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow, Axl Rose has just issued his most insane lawsuit yet, suing "Guitar Hero" makers Activision for $20 million for featuring Guns N' Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle" in "Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock." Axl initially signed off on "Jungle" being used in the game, but on one condition: Do not put any music by Velvet Revolver, which boasts guitarist Slash (Rose's former bandmate and mortal enemy) in the game. Well, not only did "Guitar Hero III" offer a bunch of Velvet Revolver songs, they crowned Slash the game's spokesperson, featured him on the game's cover and made him a playable avatar. Cue Axl's lawsuit..

"[Activision] began spinning a web of lies and deception to conceal its true intentions to not only feature Slash and VR prominently in GH III but also promote the game by emphasizing and reinforcing an association between Slash and Guns N' Roses and the band's song 'Welcome to the Jungle,' " Rose's lawyer Skip Miller writes in the $20 million suit. Guns N' Roses' "Sweet Child O' Mine" featured in "Guitar Hero II," and "Shackler's Revenge" from Axl's long-awaited "Chinese Democracy" actually debuted as a game-ending challenge in "Rock Band 2," so Rose isn't opposed to the use of his songs in music video games. This comes down to, once again, Rose's undying hatred of Slash. .

"There's zero possibility of me having anything to do with Slash other than by ambush, and that wouldn't be pretty," Rose said in 2009. "In a nutshell, personally I consider him a cancer and better removed, avoided." Rose also sued his former manager Irving Azoff, the CEO of Live Nation Ticketmaster, accusing Azoff of conspiring to assemble a Guns N' Roses reunion tour that included Slash. That legal tiff is likely the reason why Axl's GNR hasn't toured the U.S. on its "Chinese Democracy" trek (although a February tour is rumored)..

Why would Axl's lawsuit arrive three years after the release of "Guitar Hero III"? The Amp likes to imagine that during a brief hiatus in the GN'R tour, Rose headed to his local Best Buy to get a jump on some Black Friday shopping. While pushing his cart down the discount video game aisle, he saw the box for "Guitar Hero III" with Slash on the cover and got perturbed. After purchasing the game along with the new deluxe "Avatar" DVD and Nicki Minaj's "Pink Friday," Axl drove back to his home in the Hollywood Hills to see if GNR's music was in fact in the game, only to discover that he bought an XBox 360 copy of "GH3" and he only owned a Playstation 3. Down but not defeated, Rose then realized that he could simply go on Wikipedia to see the game's track list. And then he called his lawyer..
