Perry says Tyler quits Aerosmith
By WENN.COM Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of the group Aerosmith in 2006. (AP file photo) Steven Tyler has quit Aerosmith, according to the band's guitarist Joe Perry. It comes just months after the singer spoke out publicly to dismiss reports the band was on the verge of splitting following a year of cancelled tour dates, injuries and accidents. In August, Tyler broke his shoulder after falling off stage while performing in South Dakota, and the group was forced to scrap the remainder of its summer tour. Perry admitted that following the accident he and Tyler didn't speak for more than a month, prompting rumours the band's future was in jeopardy. And it seems fans' fears were justified - guitarist Perry has revealed his pal has left the rock group after its performance as part of the Formula One racing season's final weekend in Abu Dhabi last weekend. He tells the Las Vegas Sun, "Steven quit as far as I can tell. I don't know any more than you do about it. I got off the plane two nights ago. I saw online that Steven said that he was going to leave the band. I don't know for how long, indefinitely or whatever. Other than that, I don't know." Perry claims the discord in the band is down to Tyler's lack of communication, including his failure to return phone calls: "He's notorious for that. That's one thing I've learned to live with. I try to overlook it. I like to pick my battles. "Frankly, the last few months I've been wanting not to rock the boat. I don't want him cancelling any more gigs. We really wanted to do these last four. We just kind of didn't want to call him out or anything and get him anymore p**sed off, for whatever reason. So we just let things lie. So we did the gigs and, like I said, I got off the plane and saw this online. That's how I know about it... He has had no contact with me or the other band members." But Perry is determined to continue with Aerosmith, even if Tyler refuses to return. He adds, "Right now I'm adjusting to how we're going to go on. Aerosmith is such a powerful band, I mean it's like a steam locomotive. You just can't disregard 40 years of four guys who play together as well as they do. We're just trying to - at least I am - trying to figure out what direction the band should take. "As far as replacing Steve, it's not just about that, it's also four guys that play extremely well together, and I'm not going to see that go to waste. I really don't know what path it's going to take at this point, but we'll probably find somebody else that will sing in those spots where we need a singer and then we'll be able to move the Aerosmith up a notch, move the vibe up a notch." |

70's Aerosmith were great. I've see them live at least twice in 1990's, and they kicked ass. Steven Tyler looked right at me. ;)
I hope they stay together. Joe Perry was/is a righteous STUD MUFFIN. He is HOT HOT... |

Aerosmith with out Tyler is like the Stones without Jagger. Tough or nearly impossible to replace, with one exception ~ a hipper, younger 'unknown' dude with a great voice. Journey was lucky to find a replacement for Steve Perry when they saw a Youtube video of some Indonesian dude singing Journey. That was a lucky break because that dude is awesome, I saw him perform and he nails it!

So here in the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts, just a mere five miles from Nipmuc High School, where it all began, conventional wisdom is it ain't over 'till the fat lady sings. Tyler will probably go solo for a while. Just long enough to get back to rehab & re-join the band. Bitch nailed it, but another singer? Journey is one thing as Steve Perry is eons ago & two singers ago now, and that cat from Philippines is alright. No replacing Tyler. The guy from Joe Perry's solo cd could cover it, as he's got range. Maybe this will kick Tyler upside the head to smarten up. This is very similar to another band who suffered from lead singer disease in the 80's..... We were just talking tonight how 'smith played our high school in the spring of '74, right after Get Your Wings was released. The local college would get Ritchie Havens, some other folk acts. Aerosmith was the cat's meow, nothing like it since in our sleepy town. It was a project out together by the Student Council at the time. 'Smith used to play all of the Elk's, VFW, Legion Halls & ballrooms all around us all of the time. Really cool stuff to see what they went on to be. Long live original Aerosmith.. |

Buckopuckett, for me it's what we were lucky to have going for us in our backyard. 'Smith, J Geils, Boston, The Cars-they were all part of the fabric of our area in the 70's & early 80's. They were all over radio & tv, played all the juke joints & bars. Chase them from one show to another. Too cool for school. Google "Boston Tea Party" to see what international acts came thru that venue & most of these bands were right there every night watching & dreaming of what it could be like. They would go back to their cramped cellar studios & 4.00 cover gigs to play for days, seeking that one hit to make it. We were right there to watch it all unfold. Would not have it any other way.....

"the last few months I've been wanting not to rock the boat."
Seems like that's all this guys been doing since they cancelled their tour. Being quoted in the press with things like 'get your shit together, Steven' and 'he just up and quit... as far as I know' is anything but avoiding conflict. If Perry doesn't learn to keep a lid on it this could turn out sadder than Van Halen. Would be great if they could get their shit together and do another rock album. They play well as a band, but going on without Steven Tyler would be just about the dumbest idea any band has come up with since having a couple of fans play Guitar Hero as the opening act to a summer tour.. |

Yes, saw them a few weeks ago at the 250 capacity Viper Room. It was an amazing show. At this point since the 4 other members still have it together and are still a great band when they wanna be, they might as well keep it going. They are in their 60's now and have had health issues of their own. No point in waiting around for someone else to get it together. Don't think they can do arenas or sheds at $200 each but I would pay $50-80 to see the 4 of them with another singer in a small to midsize venue. |

Joe Perry whines more than Keith Richards ... he should face it ... they are married like Jagger/Richards ... neither can go on without the other ... the Joe Perry Project had at least two LP's ... my fav ... Let The Music Do The Talking ... Richards without Jagger aint ever go be the Rolling Stones ... Perry without Tyler is a poor imitation of Aerosmith ... which is a pale imitation of the Rolling Stones to start with ... :aimama

Title: Re: Aerosmith (nsc) Post by left shoe shuffle on Nov 10th, 2009 at 10:53am Joe Perry Says Aerosmith Not Breaking Up, Confirms Band Will Replace Steven Tyler 11/10/09, 9:54 am EST Photo: Kane/WireImage Aerosmith’s Joe Perry took to his Twitter page yesterday to relay some potentially positive news to fans: despite Steven Tyler’s apparent departure, “Aerosmith is definitely NOT breaking up.” Perry also confirmed that the remaining four members of Aerosmith would seek out a new singer while Tyler did “his own thing.” “Aerosmith is positively looking for a new singer to work with. You just can’t take 40 years of experience and throw it in the bin!” Perry tweeted yesterday, November 9th. “Band is playing hotter than ever and our songs need to be played live! Don’t despair; Aerosmith not splitting up. Promise that’s the last you’ll hear from me on the subject till we gear up again.” As Rolling Stone reported yesterday, following Aerosmith’s concert in Abu Dhabi on November 1st, Tyler left without talking to his band mates, instead telling a reporter for Classic Rock Magazine that he was going to focus on “Brand Tyler. ” Perry and Tyler have been at odds in recent years over what direction the four-decade-old band should take. Perry wants to pursue a sound closer to the band’s bluesy, Seventies records while Tyler is more interested in a poppier path that brought the band hits like “Jaded” and “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.” The tensions between the band reached fever pitch after their summer tour was cancelled after Tyler fell off the stage in South Dakota on August 6th. In an interview yesterday with Boston’s WZLX 100.7, Perry said he called Tyler before the band’s recent Hawaii concerts to see if the singer had any interest in playing three December gigs in South America, but midway through the conversation Tyler hung up on Perry. “I kind of got the hint that he pretty much wants to be alone and wants to do his own thing,” Perry said. Still, Perry reiterated that he doesn’t think this is the end of Aerosmith. “As long as we’re still kicking, it’s not over. We’ll probably get bored and come back.” www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily |

Steven still with Aerosmith...
Rumors of Aerosmith’s impending demise came to a quick and sudden halt last night when Steven Tyler made a surprise appearance at the Joe Perry Project’s concert at New York’s Fillmore at Irving Plaza to announce to the fans that he was not quitting Aerosmith despite previous reports. “I just want New York to know, I am not leaving Aerosmith,” Tyler said to a relieved crowd. “Joe Perry, you are a man of many colors. But I, motherfucker, am the rainbow!” After Tyler’s revelation, the Joe Perry Project launched into “Walk This Way” with Tyler on lead vocals. Tyler’s announcement comes just days after Perry and other Aerosmith members said they would recruit a new lead singer. The band turmoil began when Tyler told a reporter he was going to work on “Brand Tyler” following a November 1st concert in Abu Dhabi. While fans worried this meant the end of Aerosmith, Perry insisted that the group would not break up despite Tyler leaving the group. “Aerosmith is positively looking for a new singer to work with. You just can’t take 40 years of experience and throw it in the bin,” Perry tweeted just two days ago, RS reported. Any auditions for a new singer, however, were probably called off after Tyler’s surprise appearance last night.... http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2009/11/11/steven-tyler-im-not-leaving-aerosmith-joins-joe-perry-project-at-new-york-concert/ |

As much as I'm sure they could use the publicity I can't imagine now being the time for that as I doubt they have any projects on the horizon. The way their recent albums constantly get pushed back (including the one they were said to have been working on before the tour) its clear that this band doesn't have the work ethic to get an album on the shelves probably any time in the next year - and that's if they started tomorrow, which I'm sure they won't. And if the purpose of this was to build publicity for their solo careers then you'd think they would've kept it going a little longer than a couple days. For all the crapping on them I've done in this thread though, I will say that I think they're a damn good band and would love to see them put out just 1 more quality album |

But Rolling Stone has learned that things are far from settled within the band, as part of reporting for a story that will appear in our next issue. The cameo, says Perry, came as a surprise even to him. “There was all this commotion during our encore break and somebody said, ‘Steven is here.’ ” Perry says. “And I was like, ‘What?’ ” After exchanging pleasantries, Tyler asked to sit in with the group on the final encore of “Walk This Way.” “Being an acquaintance of 40 years, I said, ‘Why not?’ ” Perry says. ” So he came up and sang and that was the last I saw of him.” Despite Tyler’s onstage insistence that he isn’t quitting the band, Perry says Aerosmith is still considering touring and recording with a new singer. “He wants to take two years off from the band,” Perry says. “The rest of the band wants to keep on working. We have so many different options to fill up that time. Anything is possible at this point. Basically, any communication that we’ve had over the last couple of months has been through managers, so that’s been pretty strange.” Perry adds, “I never won any money trying to second-guess what goes on in Steven’s mind. I guess this is just Aerosmith business as usual.” www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily |

Saw them once in '01. It was a great show and I'd love to see them again - would've caught them again this summer had their tour made it to Jersey.
It's just too bad they can't seem to keep their shit together these past couple years. The band's playing chops haven't depreciated nearly as much as some other bands in their age range I could think of. And while Tyler's vocals are undoubtably slipping a little with age, his range was still pretty amazing as of their last studio record. If they'd just get off their pop/sellout kick and focus on their strengths as a rock band, they could turn out something pretty great. |

Wortham Story written: 11 November 2009 The music industry was turned on its ear, or perhaps better stated, its lips yesterday, following the shocking announcement of Mick Jagger as the touring replacement for Steven Tyler from Aerosmith. Music industry icons from their respective home countries and with their own bands, both Jagger from the Rolling Stones and Tyler from Aerosmith have been blessed with hard core if not retirement-aged fan bases, and are still touring to huge crowds. The move has music industry insiders wondering if Jagger was preparing to walk away from the Stones as well, this event providing the opportunity to do so. "It seems like there's more to the story here", says Aerosmith promoter, Barry Zonisface. "Once Steven called it quits, we expected the search for a new front man to be long and hard". "Like my Johnson", Zonisface added. The lips are changing, and so is the Aerosmith sound The lead singer change may be an easier transition than many expect. Jagger is just, if not more charismatic on stage than Tyler, and Mick is famous for learning new lyrics quickly. Insiders from Aerosmith's recording studio might argue with that perspective however. Recording engineer Randy Pantalode tells reporters, "Mick does well with most tunes, but couldn't get past the lyrics to Walk This Way. He got stuck on the words, hey diddle diddle with your kitty in the middle of the swing like you didn't care. We think his lips got in the way". Jagger's moves on stage are legendary and fans are looking forward to seeing the Funky Chicken performed during a new rendition of "Love in an Elevator". Though there were also reports of a name change for the band, Zonisface dismissed that speculation, but admitted that legal and copyright considerations might force the issue. "If we need to make a name change, we're ready to market either Jagosmith or AeroStones. Mick wanted us to go with Mick Smith, but everyone agreed, except Mick, that the name sucked", says Zonisface. The new Jagger/Aerosmith world tour begins in Pocatello, Idaho, 2010 |
