Title: Whitney Houston on Queen Oprah show (NS)
Post by Factory Girl on Sep 14th, 2009 at 6:33pm
I am not a fan of this wailing diva, but I was curious about her life choices.

Today, I saw the WH interview on the Op. show, and I was fascinated by her rawness and honesty.  She talked about tanking her career for Boob Brown, her love for the Boob, and the daily drug use.  I was surpised by her brutal and raw honesty.  Part II is tomorrow.

Anyone else see it?

I'm rooting for the Diva.
Clive Davis created her career through souless, generic music, but the girl has a voice, rooted in gospel.
this girl grew up watching her mother sing with the greats, she watched her godmother Aretha from the shadows....
Her voice, when not reigned in, when not sanitized, is the real thing.
I would love her to work with someone who will recognize the natural resource her voice is: stripped of the pop arrangements...the schlocky arrangements, the David Foster ballads....
and Factory Girl, those life choices could provide the edge her work needs...but we won't get that Clive Davis behind the wheel.
She's lost some of her vocal power, but she needs to stop trying to be a pop diva and just sing with that raw power.
Bobby Brown is a punk and a thug and i am so glad she let go.

Hello texy,

I'm  rooting for the Diva to succeed also.  And, I agree with your astute observation that her success lies in her being true to her life experiences, and dropping the slick and glossy production.

Interestingly, Clive Davis discovered and mentored Patti Smith.   I hope that he finds the same wisdom and lets Whitney's true talent shine.   No wailing please.

I quit watching Oprah when she began to think she held the secrets to the universe.  If Whitney still has the aura of truthiness about her I'll watch tomorrow.

Let's just hope Oprah doesn't land this interview and leaves the poor girl alone:

FROM STAFF REPORTS — Oprah Winfrey, considered the queen of daytime TV, told celebrity show "The Insider" yesterday that she wants to interview kidnapping survivor Jaycee Dugard.

Explaining that she never before has been concerned about who does or does not agree to appear on "The Oprah Winfrey Show," she said the Dugard case marked the first time she has ever called a producer to make sure they were on the story. The show, which launched in 1986, is the currently the longest running daytime talk show on television.

"I want that interview," she tells "The Insider's" Samantha Harris, stating each word slowly and emphatically.

She said one of her staff members worked hard all summer to arrange a season-opening interview with comeback singer Whitney Houston, scheduled for Sept. 14, but she "didn't care" if it happened.

"This is the one that I want," she said.

Dugard, 29, was kidnapped from a bus stop at age 11 in South Lake Tahoe. Her story has stirred an international media frenzy since police discovered she had been kept in the Antioch backyard of her accused kidnapper and his wife, who are in jail on multiple felony kidnapping and rape charges.

Dugard has not been seen in public since being reunited with her mother and other family members two weeks ago at a secluded location somewhere in the Bay Area.

She has the hurt and experience to go along with the raw talent, i just hope she can find it on record.
because she is an amazingly raw talent, unfortunately packaged in shiny package.
I watched a performance on some BET awards show where she was performing with some gospel group and she just exploded with emotion and passion, her voice as strong and real as an Aretha, but again, i hope she gets past the pop diva machinery.

Whitney was funny when explaining to Oprah that she wasn't a crack ho because she sprinklrd her rocks in joints and never used a pipe.  Her voice is shot from all the smoking.  She and Bobby used to live nearby and in one dazed and confused trip to the KFC damn near killed us in the parking lot.  She is lucky to be alive and so are we, LOL!.

That is a funny and sad story.

From the WH interview, I get a sense that there will always be a place in Whit's parking lot for the Boob.

I remember you telling that story (in a bit more detail) on IORR a few years ago and was hoping you'd chime in here. Cracking (no pun intended) tale, and not exactly a run of the mill 'celebrity encounter'. LOL

She also said that Bobby never phsically abused her. Never. Well, except the one time when he slapped her. I really don't see her pulling it together and making a succesful comeback.

The Boob will go round the talk shows about next week and tell his side.  Should be interesting.

I don't like  WH's music, but I'm intrigued by her bravery and by her damage.   I'd like to drink with her.

I remember a few years ago, after she had announced she was separating from BB - she was singing on the Grammys, American Music Awards, one of those - and i was kind of a return...
there was a photo in RS of Celine Dion and Courtney Love watching her performance backstage on a small monitor...and they had this look of just absolute support..
like they were rooting for her...

I think Hole made some good music....Pretty on the Inside.   But Courtney Love is too far gone  for any comebacks.   She just let the Nirvana legacy destroy her.

agree, but there was something poignant about the photo to me, knowing that Love was so damaged and scarred also..and here she was: the crazy rock chick rooting for the spangly diva.
she seemed to be relating....

I saw the Oprah-Whitney interview too. She used to mix rock cocaine into her marijuana joints and smoke it. Said she never freebased or snorted it. In the end it was her mother who put an end to it, came to her doorstep and told her she would call the cops and take her child away. I respect a mother's love. Marianne Faithfull also attirbutes her mother's love for her drug intervention. Moms should never give up on their kids, no matter how fvcked up they get.

:'(
