Austrian man seeks deal over Jagger ring reward
(AFP) – 1 day ago

VIENNA — An Austrian millionaire who found the lost 200,000-euro ring of pop culture icon Bianca Jagger has agreed to negotiate a settlement over her refusal to pay him a reward, his lawyer said Monday.

Reinhard Ringler is suspending the lawsuit he filed against the ex-wife of Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger to find a deal over the unpaid 10,000 euro (12,788 dollar) reward, said the lawyer, Paul Kreuzberger.

The two sides agreed to a three-month period to settle the matter, he said.

Austrian law mandates that Jagger pay Ringler, a wealthy entrepreneur, five percent of the ring's value.

But Jagger says Ringler should not get the reward because he took too long to return the platinum-and-aquamarine ring, which she had designed herself.

Jagger, a human rights activist and former supermodel, lost the ring in Salzburg on August 22, 2008.

Ringler said he gave the ring, which he had found in front of a Salzburg hotel, to his 13-year-old daughter, thinking it was worthless and only realised its value upon returning from holiday and seeing reports in the press.

He brought the ring to police within eight days of the reports.

Jagger made an alternative offer in November to pay 9,000 euros to Amnesty International and the remaining 1,000 euros to Ringler's daughter.

But Ringler decided to file the lawsuit in February.

what an ass. I wouldn't give him a dime.

If he were really a class act he would return the lady's ring then he might be given whatever she likes as a reward.  would you? that's what I would do. esp. if I thought it was trash to begin with. oh well.  ho hum

Well the Austrian law is on his side. (german wiki http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finderlohn)
just because he's insisting on getting the reward doesn't automatically make him greedy.
maybe he can't afford to donate 9000 € to amnesty international and would rather like to pay off his house or whatever.
if he did donate he might bite his arse aferwards.  :kissmyass
I don't know the guy - maybe he is greedy, but to judge him by some google news is quite over the top, imo.

law says - found goods worth over 2000 €:  - the reward is 200 € (that's 10 % of 2000 €)
plus 5 % after those 2000 €, of the remaining.
that would be  5% of 198.000 € - which would be 9.900 €, plus those 200€ = sums up to: 10.100 € reward.

see, he's even letting her off 100 €  :Youmakeagrownmancrylikejoey

But the guy is apparently already wealthy - and he refused to compromise on the part about the charity....looks like simple greed.

It sounds like the guy approached her about the 5% reward under that country's law where ring was found and then she came back with a negotiation resulting in a tax benefit to her (donation) to see if he would do it giving him still a piece of the pie and now his lawyer is coming back with no give us the straight money..which can't easily be accounted for in a business operation (for tax purposes).

wonder if she really owns the ring or it belongs to a company? [Read just now that she designed the ring and it was hers]  If the reward is 12k and that is 5% of rings value then the ring is worth 240k USD?  it must be a borrowed item  [edit:  No]  (asset protection??)

she should just put in a claim to insurance and let them flail it out

btw how did she get a ring worth 290k and how in the hell do you lose >1/4 million
she must have been like "SHIT"
the ring was lost a year ago!!!

menopause sux!!

plus having an egocentric lawyer doesn't always result in a quick settlement.

Well if he is entitled to a reward he should get it, and if he doesnt want to donate it to charity, that should be up to him to decide! He could of kept the ring and never turned it in at all!

Finders keepers when it comes to cash money, if you turn in cash it never goes to the original person who lost it! Once I was babysitting and I found a wallet with $500 cash, so I turned it into the Police (stupid me) and they said if nobody claims it in a month, I can have it. So I went back in a month to see if anybody claimed it, and nobody could account for it, the money went missing! So I learned that lesson, keep the cash if there is no ID. Return the goods and get a reward, and keep the cash!

My uncle Freddie in 1948 found an emerald ring and took it in to the police station in Brooklyn and nobody claimed it and so they gave it back to him and my cousin Kathleen has it and its worth a lot of money.
