Born?  It tells you in our daily header when this madness started.  Is that what you are looking for?

Hi there, Lantern.

As it says at the top of the page, we were 'born' on 14 July 1998. A few of us knew each other from the Bridges To Babylon official site but decided to form our own site because that site wasnt providing fans with adequate up to date tour info and also because they'd allowed their message board to be spammed to the extent where it had become pointless visiting it anymore. So, a lot of the people from that site 'migrated' to this one. Some of them (Tom L for example) have been here since day one.

The site was called 'Goin' Home' to begin but was just a message board. Another friend of ours from California, Linda Wright (kill4mick) did most of the admin/moderating on it, but then decided to end it in March 1999. Voodoo then decided to keep it going, and in March 1999 designed a new site, "Rocks Off". He asked Jaxx and myself to help him run it, so we agreed (it helped that we were all in Hartford, Ct the same week meeting each other for the first time and seeing two Stones shows there!). Jaxx hasn't had much involvement with the site in the last 3 years or so because she's been busy with other things such as bringing up her family.

So, if you date the start of the site as July 1998, we're the longest running Stones site on the internet.  We've changed servers a few times since then however, I think this must be about our 4th or 5th one - the last change was in April 2008.

Is because one from UK, one from Denver, and the third from Mexico are being together.
How and where they had met and made a deal about this site.

But maybe this is a silly thread. And if I got to write again another idiot message to one of the Trinity
Preferably I shoot me.
If I will see a message from one of them I'll have an heart attack.
Really is the same. We aren't going anywhere.

The first two were on INSIDETHEWEB.COM then we switched to NOVOGATE.COM and then to our own domain, too bad we didn't this from day one

Thanks Gazza & Voodoo, interesting history of how this site started, I remember the board before this, that was when we could post youtube video's with enabled format, post them right on here without going to the site, but we got more advantages that the other board didn't have now, like being able to be e-mailed about thread replies, polls & a few other things I forgot that the old board didn't have.

On the old site it used to say how long we'd been members.  I joined in November 2001.  Now I am, to paraphrase John Lennon a little bit older and a little bit slower.

Thats the bit I miss the most. I simply feel more inclined to bother looking at a YouTube video if I can SEE it as opposed to just the link.

Thats the one thing I wish we could change - well that plus the fact that this new domain doesnt seem to show up on search engines.

Overall, I think this format is better though - and from an admin perspective, it's like night and day compared to anything we had before.

Yes, I do now, but I swear I didn't have a "modify" or a "delete" button just a couple of days ago.

Or maybe I'm just going nuts..... :forfucksake

The only search engine in which we are not in is Google, they suck.

I declined an offer to put Google ads and mysteriously now we are not in its "world"

Do a search with ANY other search engine and you'll find us immediately

Quite. A year or so ago I had to cyber-bitch slap a certain idiot on IORR when she said she'd viewed (what she claimed was) this site and was confronted by images of explicit gay porn.  ::) Have to admit that my first instinct was to check out the 'Joey?' thread just in case.....

Thanks for the background info!  I originally stumbled here when I clicked a link from another RS message board, looking for some European guy to be my guide.  [smiley=evil.gif]I found ROCKS OFF refreshingly funny and so I continue to post here, even tho sometimes it's a bit rough. Some of the other RS sites are too civilized and polite, and censored!  [smiley=rolleyes.gif]I hate rules and freedom rocks! Sure, we all make mistakes and say and do things we regret. I respect the judgement of the admins here who tolerate most of it. On other boards some of my posts were deleted, or I am emailed and asked to modify them. [smiley=angry.gif]

Me too, I also miss the embedding option of YouTube clips.  :'(
It could be solved with updating the YaBB board software from the current version 2.1 to the latest stable version 2.4.

I have a hunch that Voodoo sees a desaster scenario waiting ahead - while doing the upgrade.
but with some preparation, backups and support from Yabb forum it shouldn't be too tough.
actually it should work like a breeze - if I believe what I've read. :smilestu

Is it so, Voodoo?

I ain't no techie, but wouldn't that eat up more bandwidth, or is that nothing to worry about?

Title: Re: About Rocks Off.
Post by open-g on Sep 3rd, 2009 at 5:19pm
Nope, nothing to worry about, bandwidth-wise.
there's just more options and optimizations included in the message bord code.

heck, they are working on version 3.0 to release early 2010.
scripts can always be streamlined, that's what they're doing.

Correct! The bandwidth will be YouTube's not ours, the problem is that I don't know how to move to the new release, I need to back the whole thing up and then install and can't figure out how to do it in a 100% safe way. Any help will be appreciated.

OK, I'm not going nuts after all!

I just tried modifying the title of the Stooges/Williamson thread and I did not have a "modify" button on the original post.
I do have a "modify" button on my last post, but that apparently does not re-word the title on the main page.
