I think MISS YOU is one of the GREATEST songs of all time...Hot Stuff is a fine song...but just doesn't do it enuff for me...a waste in concert...would be better off used (recorded) as the band struts to the B Stage on foot.

Great question.
I prefer Hot Stuff for it's funkiness. Maybe just too burnt out on Miss You. Hot Stuff sort of set the disco stage for the mass success of Miss You. |

Hot Stuff by a country mile. :thatwassmart

Yes disco does still suck.Which is why I despise both of these songs. As well as Fingerprint File. Because of that faux disco type sound. Either give me a lovely beautiful ballad. Or give me a balls out rocker. You can take the disco sound and shove it up someone's :kissmyass :willya |

I pretty much agree. That's why I asked on another thread if I was the only fan who DIDN'T really like "Miss You". ;)

Hot Stuff is pure James Brown derivitave. Miss You was perfect for the moment, is original, and has the coolest bass line ever. No contest.

No question HOT STUFF is a much better song than MISS YOU..................

after i posed this question i went and listened to hot stuff like 5 times in a row. i didn't need to listen to miss you because i knew i prefered that one. i just needed to check my head.
i think both are great tunes. :wtf3 |

Funny, I never thought of HS as a disco tune. Sounds more reggae to me, but I suppose I can hear some disco in it. |

Studio: Miss You (especially the 8-11 minute versions)
Live: Hot Stuff (especially LYL) |

I like 'em both a lot, but I'd have to go with "Miss You"- the 12-inch version in particular.

ah Zack - must disagree - i thought the straightfoward 4/4 beat of Miss You was not that original or exciting - i love sugar blue's harp - now i agree that was an original sound (ha! - tell that one to Larry Adler!) - well at least a break-away from mick's more or less blues harp stylings HS on the other hand, while JB derived - to a degree I would say, not "pure(ly)" - for me taps deep into keith's own brand and idea of funkiness (for want of a better word) - the (hot) stuff indeed, which sets him apart from all others and HS is where it emerged fully formed, practically without warning - i can think of no other track released before it (ok - maybe Luxury at a pinch) that - overtly at least* - predicts it * the fact is compared to his peers even keith's rock and roll eg JJF RO MM has an inherent "funk" that none of his peers (excepting Jimi, if you consider him one) could come close to |

Miss You by a mile. Especially the longer version. Its simply a GREAT record. "Hot Stuff" is merely a really good groove.
That said, I never wish to hear Miss You in concert again. Theyve never been able to do it justice live, especially after 1982. Hot Stuff has been badly overlooked post 1976. They did an absolutely smoking version of it - with a great horn arrangement - at the opening Voodoo Lounge show in DC in 1994, and then unforgivably dropped it from the rest of the tour. Its hardly been played since. |

I'd agree, Miss You is almost seminal, whereas Hot Stuff is an experimental groove that points towards Miss You and Emotional Rescue, I'd say that the St Louis 98' version of Miss You is awesome though :wtf2 |
Title: Re: miss you or hot stuff Post by Gazza on Feb 2nd, 2009 at 9:57am
The Bridges tour performances were the nadir. 12 minutes of arseing about which could have been used for two songs, but which basically were used to give Keith and Ronnie a cigarette break while Mick did that tiresome never-ending foreplay routine with Lisa and her shoe.

I try to skip it on the DVD. The real question for you masochists is, what's worse: Miss You live (after 82) or Rain Fall Down live?? |
Title: Re: miss you or hot stuff Post by Gazza on Feb 3rd, 2009 at 10:54am
aside from the infamous "Salt Lake Incident" trainwreck, I quite liked Rain Fall Down when it was played live. In fact, it was one of the few ABB songs that they did justice to.

I wish they had done IWTL more than once/twice.
My vote is also for Miss You. And Miss U. |

My favorite MICK-ism in Hot Stuff when he says 'SHAKE IT TUP' his hot British is so sexy, I just LOVE MICK's voice in Hot Stuff! It's a great song for fvcking. :perverted
