Title: How much Stones you got??
Post by Throwaway on Nov 24th, 2008 at 5:45pm
I could be doing something better with my free time, but of my 4127 songs on iTunes, 510 are performed by or written by the Stones or a solo member (only solo recordings, so Faces tunes don't count).  That's 12.36% of my library, with the next closest artist being Ryan Adams/Whiskeytown, at 216 songs and 5.2% and Jay Farrar/Son Volt/Uncle Tupelo at 159 songs and 3.9%.  I feel like I listen to a good amount of non-Stones music, yet 12.36% is huge!  That's all, carry on.

all totaled for me on dvd's and cd's, probably around 50-60......and counting.

25,721 songs on my iPod 1,355 are The Rolling Stones ( Keith, Jagger, Ronnie solo not included).
I don't have any live bootlegs on my iTunes cept for Handsome Girls and Brussels, I do have the good to excellent quality studio bootlegs on there...
My Ipdo is 148 gig, and I have 146 used, and i've had to remove and move stuff, b/c i got alot more I could have on it...
Are they gonna make a Terrabyte iPod?

I have alot of Stones stuff... too much?

I have slowed down since the long break...

I haven't put lots of my Stones boots on iTunes.  Yes it is a matter of being lazy- as I don't wanna type the song titles in! ;)

God, don't ya just hate putting a boot CD into iTunes and it just lists Track numbers!!! >:( :D

If you take stock of every cd, lp, tape, vhs, dvd, shirt, hat, poster, news clipping, book, sweatshirt, video clip, jpg, box set, sign, ticket stub, mp3, sticker, tour program, magazine, and patch, you could say I'm one big lunatic for this band.

I'm 100% Stones fanatic every day, every week, all the time, till the end is upon me.

I've just the official stuff and a small number of unofficial studio material on i-tunes.

A lot of my Stones boots collection is still on audio tape. When I stopped collecting tapes and got a Cd-R player in 1999, the tape collection was something around 1,800. Everything since then has been on Cd-R.

I never collected actual bootleg LP/Cd's... far too expensive a hobby...always tapes or CDR's.

I had about 700 hours of the Stones on video prior to getting a DVD recorder about 4 years ago. I've transferred some of it to DVD, but its far too time consuming.

Doesnt help that I collect Dylan and Springsteen in similar quantities as well, although my Stones collection would comfortably be the biggest of the three of them.

I actually havent got that much new Stones stuff in recent years - aside from the last tour - as I've most of what I need.

As for the non-music stuff like posters, magazines etc....I've a few but life's too short to spend so much energy on things that dont really serve any pleasurable purpose. Lack of space has allowed me to be a bit less sentimental about that stuff in recent years.

Oh PLEASE..

You stopped because you ran out of room.

Your "not much" would put most of us to shame...
And if you had a spare room for all your collections and didn't have to move the boxes to find something....

Oh dear lord... ;D ;D :) :willya

I keep my really special stuff stored away and wrapped up as if it was gold! If anyone goes near my autographed pics or vinyl 45's and albums or treasured collectibles such as stubs and pictures and buttons and pins and good condition posters and memoribelia, I grab it away as if it was priceless treasure ~ DO NOT TOUCH THIS PRECIOUS STUFF!

The clothes I wear and I dont save them because I enjoy rotating my RS shirts, sweatshirts, purses, jewelery and hats and scarves and my most precious OFFICIAL 1982 black satin RS European Tour jacket!

CD's & DVD's~ I make a copy of every bootleg and studio release, store away the originals, then use only the copies so if I lose or break them, it's no big deal because the originals are safe! I only have about 25 bootlegs and all the official CDs and DVD releases.

I have a bunch of Stones books which I leave out for people to look at. Books arent made to be locked away, so I use them as 'coffee table' items and glance through them time and time again.  Never get enough STONES! I have some expensive canvas RS art framed and on display. Looking at those every day gives me some Stonesy Satisfaction. I really want an original Woody. Yeah I'll get one someday. Dont know how I'll afford it but maybe I'll stumble into it somehow!

At least you can change the artist/album all at once, just having to change the song titles sucks!

And to those who say they won't ever listen to all the Stones stuff they have - it's cause you're always adding more to your collection! (a good thing I might add)

Yes...Now iamgine doing it with both Stones and Springsteen boots...Oh wait I guess you can. ;)

Anyway.I have slowly been rebuilding my music library since my POS laptop crashed last year and I graduated to a PC. Been almost exactly a year. A rough count says I have 2345 songs in my music library. Of which 330 are Stones related and 627 are Springsteen related.

16 tons - and what did I get?

Somebody put "Belladonna on a Toussaint Night" (Sister Morphine, Wembley 9-9-73) up on Dime or Hungercity, and then I'll have it all.

If it's you - Then you and me, we had it all.

I have a girlfriend in Chicago who has a collection of Stones stuff like Bitch. Great fantastic collection you have. I am very
envious of your Stones treasures. Her dad had a restaurant there for almost 20 years called Burts. The stars used to
patronize it all the time. Stars and rock stars and etc loved that restaurant. Stones stuff is always very precious. :booze :keithpunky :willya

Well,me and Gazza used to trade,it think it was around 1999-2001,we pretty much have or had the same collection.Ijust counted my stones bootlegs,cd´s alone
are 1300,but that number is not correct, beacuse some of the sets have 4 cd´s inside,i counted,one=one....
About a hundred cd´s is outtakes alone.
But my cd´s aren´t updated,,,,
Dvd´s i have about 230,but thats only shows, not documents,i still have MANY interesting documents on VHS,i got some of those from gazza, great stuff.
Then i still have vinyl bootlegs as well, maybe 150.
I have all the originals on vinyl and on cd,i even have russian versions on cd,they contain some bootleg songs, like outtakes and live cuts.

Neil young i have around 250shows,same amount Led Zeppelin, couple of pink floyds and black sabbath.
My rooom is pretty much full.
In fact, when next tour comes around,i must get more room for my cd´s.
I have pics of cd´s and music room, but i have no idea, how to get them here?

Not including their respective solo albums, I've at least some 1500 hours of Stones on my music hard drive.  I've twice as much Dead.

A plentiful supply, lots of Stones goodies to keep me happy for many-a-year^

Unlike my friend Gazza, who claims to have a whopping 700 hours of stones visual, I can only claim to have about 300 hours, the collecting thing can be a wee bit like a drug, though I do love stones DVD's and anything I haven't got! I gots the fever...

Besides the 300 hours on Video/DVD, and all of the official albums and even most solo albums, I have 30 - 40 CD boots perhaps, and a shedload of magazines and books. Quite a lot really, and like many have mentioned here, am fast running out of space to store my Stones Gold^

Still, I'd rather have it than not...!

In the last couple months I've boxed up most of my recordings - audio and video. The last few years saw me simply labeling envelopes to save space and time rather than printing covers and using jewel, slim or dvd cases.

Between the Stones, Dylan and Neil - my big three - I have left a couple hundred of my favourites and best-sounding shows on display and ready to roll when the urge sets in.

Quite simply I've gotten away from torrenting because the mass of shows kept compounding and got to a point where dozens and dozens of shows - even though most were burned to media - didn't make it through the speakers or tv screen. I wish I had the time, but sadly, I don't.

Old man winter, however, is pretty much here again, and usually drives me outta the Canadian cold and onto the computer....

All I need and not enough.

Which is to say, all the official releases (natch) which is my comfort food, my Shepherd's Pie if you will.

The major studio outtakes from the golden years, and the major live boots like Philly 72, Brussels, Perth, Newcastle 73,
L.A.75 Paris 76 and Fort Worth 78...You get the idea.

Still waiting on that late period masterpiece and the original mix of Might As Well Get Juiced.

i also have the original sticky fingers record with the zipper and also the satanic majesties request with the 3d original cover.  i consider those my prized stones possesions.  now if i could only get my hot hands on the original some girls record i would die a happy man.  i [vaguely now]  remember buying this 4-7 times when it first came out.

My prized possessions mostly consist of original Brian Jones things---autographs, a hand written letter....and a couple of small locks of hair that friends of mine obtained in person in the mid 60's {one in Australia, one in Britain}. I have everyone else's autograph {of the original 5} but Charlie's.....I have a few original snapshots of shows in the 60's as well. And a couple of rare posters {one for High Tides that was on a record store wall in So. California when the album first came out}. I also have an I-Contact book and a Blinds and Shutters that has Stash's autograph as well as Christopher Gibbs  and others. Also Alexis Korner's autograph. Lots and lots of magazines and books and pictures, as well as the music. I tried to collect as many concerts from the 60's as I could....I have most of them {with Brian} I think...

Thanks for posting the jacket pic SV!

I find it unbelievable that some people have 600+ bootlegs! Thats incredible. I remember reading something where MICK went out and bought about $600 worth of bootlegs in NYC because he didnt have recordings of the shows and he wanted to hear them! He wasnt mad about it, but he haggled over the shipping costs so they threw it in for free. Ha! MICK felt he was getting ripped off buying his own bootlegs ~ thats funny!   ;D

I have about 2000 pieces, probably 300 of which are Stones.  They are stored in four large cabinets in my guest room-office. which also contains about a dozen shoe boxes and US-government in-boxes (great for slim CDs) pretty much all over the place.  I don't have much non-music memorbilia except for a shelf full of rock and roll books and my framed Ray Davies autographed Kinks album.

A question for others with large collections?  What do you do about storage?  Boxes in the basement?   If so, how do you get to it?  A rotating system.  Anyone got it all in the living room (my wife refuses).  Sioux is you say your "Stones room" is dedicated to your collection of memorabilia, yet you sleep in it.  Anyone else got a room specifically for music?

Yeah, I'm married, but after my daughter went to college, I got used to sleeping in her room {the husband has crazy hours and I just can't sleep in the same bed anymore}. So, right after college she got married, and that became "my" room. :) So, for the first time since I was a teenager, I got to put all my rare, and not so rare, Stones/Brian posters on the walls! And then I started adding autographed pix and things {Dennis Wilson, Pete Best....and my Stu Sutcliffe pen sketch}. The books are everywhere--in the bookcase and neatly stacked on a table and in the corner of the room. The CD's are stored in about 3 different places, lol. My rare books {I-Contact and Blinds and Shutters} are right within reach. The magazines are neatly stored in boxes, as are the videos and DVD's. My other SPECIAL things are stored in one, very accessible box, that I can grab in any emergency! And yes, somehow there's still room for a bed.... ;)

I LOVE that room, though. You are just assailed with Stones as soon as you open the door! Makes me think it's 1966 for sure... :) 8-)
