My two Squier's. Standard Telecaster vintage blonde (which plays like dream and has a great sound)and my Strat which I bought for £10. 5 Stringed tuned to open G and is great for slide.

We play a mix of covers and originals. The 1st song we've just about finished is a bluesy thing. I love Stones. Bass guy a Floyd nut and the guitarist, Eric,  likes anything, but mainly the heroe's like Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan. The guitar he has is one of Steve Vai's 7 string guitars. No, not a "signature" guitar, Vai's actual axe! Eric lived in the States for about 15 yrs. He's fucking amazing! I'll post a little vid i taped last month one of these days. It's not our song, which i wrote, called "Alternator", but it was a jam we did that i am working out lyrics for now.

Shit, i go on dont i??

I enjoy the Johnson very much. it's very well built and sounds great.
A cone upgrade should make it even better - so I've been told, but Ican't afford that at the moment and I'm happy with how it sounds right now anyway.

the partscaster was a working Tele before, but I exchanged everything except body & neck.

Hi Sioux

Years but not years and years. I have just bought a White Teardrop 12 string you might like to see, I will take a picture and post it at the weekend.

Next a old cheap acoustic which is  impossibe to play due to the high action but is really great for slide.

Also is your Teardrop a VOX like Brian's? Your guitars are so beautiful I could cry. They bring back so many memories and
remind me of all my BJ pictures.

And the rest are beautiful too. I don't know anything about guitars so I ask questions to find out. Me I was a piano player for 20 years.
Still love it but have  no piano now.

Would love to see more guitars folks!!

remind me of the early Stones and of course Brian Jones.  I know they are the owner's pride and joy.

Starbuck, That's a great looking guitar you have there(please show us your other's). How do I do it having so many guitars ? with great difficulty :)

Sioux,

The Squier Jagmaster is an electric guitar marketed by the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation under their Squier budget brand. It is based on the design of the classic Fender Jazzmaster and Fender Jaguar. It has Duncan-Designed humbucking pickups, a standard Stratocaster-style tremolo bridge, and on Vista Series versions a short-scale, 24" neck (22 Frets). The first Jagmasters appeared in 1996 labeled the Vista Series and were made in Japan. the Jagmaster in its original form was only made for a period of two years; 1996 through 1998. The first Japanese Jagmasters had a neck in which the truss rod is adjusted at the bottom of the neck, and the later Japanese ones have a 70's style 'bullet' truss rod, which is adjusted at the headstock. The original Japanese Jagmasters featured a maple neck with a 'skunk-stripe' back, rosewood fretboard and basswood body. The list price was $699.99.

However, a year later, the Japanese market crashed and Fender closed their production plants.

The Jagmaster was brought back into production in 2002, this time made in China and with a 25.5" neck (21 frets). In 2005, the 2002 Jagmaster was discontinued, and replaced with the (also Chinese) Squier Jagmaster II, which feature different visual aesthetics, and also the old 24" neck (22 frets). The 2005 Jagmaster II have only two (readily available) colour options: black and sunburst. The third finish option "Silver Sparkle" of the 2002 reissues is no longer available.

Thanks Steve, that's really interesting...:) Especially concerning each reissue having different length necks and number of frets. It's a nice looking axe---yes, I see the resemblane to the Fender Jazzmaster. :) So, which year and manufacurer made your model? Is it the Japanese or Chinese model? And why did you want to add this particular guitar to your collection? Sorry for all the questions! I just think this is all very interesting, although I don't play. {Husband is a guitarist--professional musician, but he plays acoustic}.

beautyfull guitars !
I personally love the honky tonk man firebird
these guitars are of my guitarist of the band, meanwhile we had a test before the concert.

• one telecaster with 5 chords, I dunno age but I presume very modern
• one white strato very powerfull, I think with one gibson pick up on the bridge and one humbucking down.
•• Me and the drummer ...  :D

Hmmm... is that sarcasm, Sioux?

No, its an old guitar which has had plenty of use over the years. It served me well and kept me happy for many years. It gets little opportunity to shine these days - not that it did really in the first place anyway!  ::)

No, no sarcasm at all....I love it. And it IS a beauty. :)  I actually did a little research on the Fender Sunn Mustang...maybe it's not a high end {price or performance} guitar, but it's hard not to admire a red Fender.... ;) :)

The guitar is filithy. That maty explain the 'well used' look!

I actually think it adds to the charm.

Sioux, do you think the my guitar is made by Fender? I too, did a little research and I suppose it's possible that it is part of some super-budget-range: lower than Squire, perhaps?

Yeah, it seems to be a true Fender...but a lower budget instrument. But hey, I love the color and you said you enjoyed playing it.....sounds good to me! :)

2003 ReIssue '58 plain top with factory Bigsby
1973? Ampeg VT-22

The Heritage Standard 80 has original Tim Shaw Humbuckers, wonderful tone.
The ReIssue has BurstBucker 2 and 3, which are a bit too hot. Looking for replacements.

The VT-22 is a 100W monster, difficult to keep quiet, so I stopped trying (ask my neighbors).

Not the Yamaha, which I had in the 70's. The Walmart guitar I picked up a couple years ago....and ditched it real quickly, such a nasty feel to it....like picking up slime....that was one vile guitar.

Yeah, it's the old saying "You only get what you pay for" when I started playing guitar, the strings seemed like a inch away from the fretboard farther up the neck, impossible to play properly, forget about bending notes,  when I got Fender & Gibson, what a change! it seemed like the guitar will play by itself it was so easy to play, quality is what counts.

Isn't she a beauty?  I had a choice of this or a really ugly Epi Les Paul junior for about the same price, and I figured that I could play the semi-hollow body without plugging in, and it was really such a more attractive instrument.

But I don't know what I've got here. . .   You can see the brand is Shelter, USA and says "Chicago" and "hand crafted" although many of you know I'm in Asia at the moment (see map of Pakistan on wall).

Clearly it's a copy, but of what?  It looks vaguely like an ES 335, but there's no pick guard, and the head looks sort of like an Ibanez.  The price was under $300, so I didn't go that far out on a limb.  I've googled but there's no Shelter guitars web page.

Can anyone comment on this axe?

But, having said that, there is nothing stopping me buying another Tele in less than 9 weeks.

Maybe a American Standard.

I've sold 2 recently so only 5 now - 3 Gibsons, 1 Epiphone and a Takamine. I guess the Takamine doesn't really count because, well...it's a Takamine. But I also have a 1948 steel guitar named Vera, a 12/15 hammer dulcimer, a saxophone, 2 flutes, 2 boxes of harps (Hohner and Lee Oskar)  in every key imaginable, a koto, a thumb piano and my 5 year old has a mini violin, a wooden recorder and a kazoo. That's all the instrumental dowry I have, but I would love your guitars as if they were my own :)

Post by corgi37 on Feb 16th, 2011 at 6:57am
Bloody awesome! Really lovely to play. Not that i'm any good, mind you. But it has so many varied sounds. It's my 1st "real" guitar (as opposed to my Epiphone SG) and i just cant put it down. I only have a crappy amp, but it even made that sound good. There is not a flat spot, or a buzz or anything. It's a heavy thing though. I need a new strap & i have to get strap locks. I dropped my SG within 5 minutes of getting it home back in 2004, and i nearly cried (though thats a tough beast too). I was planning on maybe buying an American Tele when i go over, but my Mexican senorita will do me for a long time i reckon.

Good stuff, just add some mild OD and put it in open-G, and you will have some real fun.  I've found my tele to sound great with slide, think Muddy.

Since there's no other thread for it, anyone got tips for a Stonesy amp on a budget?  My amp is loud but kind of crappy, but no doubt can be made to sound decent with some tweaking.

Captain Beefheart's 10 Commandments of Guitar Playing

Kindly sent to me by 'Sikora1'. With corrections and additional information from Brian Hassett.

Budding guitarists take note.

1. Listen to the birds

That's where all the music comes from. Birds know everything about how it should sound and where that sound should come from. And watch hummingbirds. They fly really fast, but a lot of times they aren't going anywhere.

2. Your guitar is not really a guitar

Your guitar is a divining rod. Use it to find spirits in the other world and bring them over. A guitar is also a fishing rod. If you're good, you'll land a big one.

3. Practice in front of a bush

Wait until the moon is out, then go outside, eat a multi-grained bread and play your guitar to a bush. If the bush doesn't shake, eat another piece of bread.

4. Walk with the devil

Old Delta blues players referred to guitar amplifiers as the "devil box." And they were right. You have to be an equal opportunity employer in terms of who you're brining over from the other side. Electricity attracts devils and demons. Other instruments attract other spirits. An acoustic guitar attracts Casper. A mandolin attracts Wendy. But an electric guitar attracts Beelzebub.

5. If you're guilty of thinking, you're out

If your brain is part of the process, you're missing it. You should play like a drowning man, struggling to reach shore. If you can trap that feeling, then you have something that is fur bearing.

6. Never point your guitar at anyone

Your instrument has more clout than lightning. Just hit a big chord then run outside to hear it. But make sure you are not standing in an open field.

7. Always carry a church key

That's your key-man clause. Like One String Sam. He's one. He was a Detroit street musician who played in the fifties on a homemade instrument. His song "I Need a Hundred Dollars" is warm pie. Another key to the church is Hubert Sumlin, Howlin' Wolf's guitar player. He just stands there like the Statue of Liberty — making you want to look up her dress the whole time to see how he's doing it.

8. Don't wipe the sweat off your instrument

You need that stink on there. Then you have to get that stink onto your music.

9. Keep your guitar in a dark place

When you're not playing your guitar, cover it and keep it in a dark place. If you don't play your guitar for more than a day, be sure you put a saucer of water in with it.

10. You gotta have a hood for your engine

Keep that hat on. A hat is a pressure cooker. If you have a roof on your house, the hot air can't escape. Even a lima bean has to have a piece of wet paper around it to make it grow.
