Title: Coldplay - 'Best Act In The World'
Post by mojoman on Oct 7th, 2008 at 2:14pm
Coldplay pulled off a double at the 2008 Q Awards with Russian Standard Vodka after Best Act In The World Today.

The quartet – who had earlier won best album for Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends – were honoured with the prize, sponsored by Russian Standard Vodka, by readers of Q and Qthemusic.com.

Chris Martin and the band beat acts such as Oasis to the title which was last year won by Arctic Monkeys. They have cemented their position as world-conquering stars with their fourth album which was released in June and topped the charts around the globe.

Frontman Chris Martin went all aquiver as he collected the award from Cerys Matthews.

“About eight years ago we supported Catatonia and you let me hold your cigarette. I thought ‘maybe there is a chance’.”

Unlucky in love Cerys shot back: “There is a chance!”

Martin added: "I don't even think we're the best band in the room, never mind the best in the world."

Other nominees up for the best act in the world today title were:

Oasis
Muse
Metallica
Kings Of Leon

I agree, no coincidence that their music went downhill after Chris Martin got it together with Gwyneth Paltrow

I'll always love Yellow but yes, it does seem they've gone downhill.

Coldplay's first LP was worthy of some of the Verve's lesser stuff. But their next one was a bit too "Godly U2." Then that bloated X&Y came out and it was clear they were more annoying than interesting. Their new one is better, but not worth your time anyway unless you want to hear what a bunch of pretentious wankers sound like when channeling U2, the Verve and Echo & the Bunymen's worst tendencies and meshing it into their own sound. Eno's production was the biggest factor in this Viva La Vida not sucking like X&Y.

A Rush Of Blood To The Head was a decent album. Their new album is ok. But not as good.

I quite enjoyed Parachutes at the time and the follow up, A Rush Of Blood To The Head, had it's moments as well. I kind of lost interest around the time of X&Y - although a couple of the singles were OK. To be honest, I'm not at all impressed with what I have heard from therir latest and as time passes, my dislike for Chris Martin just grows and grows.
