Kris Kristofferson hosts Elvis Presley
biographySeptember 11, 2008

WHERE|WHEN Tonight at 9 on the Biography Channel (Cablevision Ch. 160; FiOs Ch. 129; DirecTV Ch. 226; Dish Network Ch. 119)

HOST Kris Kristofferson

THE DEAL This two-hour special looks back at the early years of the man who came to be known as "The King of Rock and Roll." It traces Elvis Presley's life from his birth during the depth of the Depression in Tupelo, Miss., to his move to Memphis and his formative high school years, to his early struggles to launch a music career, and his triumphant return to Tupelo for a concert in 1956, on the same stage where, 11 years prior, he had famously lost a talent competition.

WHO TALKS Interviews with old friends, family members, co-workers, schoolmates and others who knew Elvis provide personal insights into his early years. Viewers will learn how shy Elvis was, how hard it was to convince him to perform, how he was taunted and picked on by others and about his father's incarceration and his mother's relentless campaign to get him paroled.

Elvis Presley is shown in this 1957 file photo. (AP)

I might have watched some of this last night on TV. I don't know if it was the same bio or not. I doubt it because I don't recall hearing Kris Krisstoferson's voice. Anyway they interviewed some woman named June, who was Elvis girlfrined for awhile....and alot of other cool clips.

I grew up in the times of The Beatles, the 1st English Invasion of '64, & of course The Stones were kings in my list, but I have a older Sister who loved Elvis, & through out the years I got to like Elvis, I found out that he was the first, in Rock 'n'Roll to really make a impact on that scene, & at first I didn't really like him, but then realised he was the first, if it wasn't for him, there would be no Beatles or Rolling Rocks (as he called them) to be where they are today.

I watched the biography special last night - one of the best I've seen.  Great footage of Elvis on vacation with June's family plus what I thought was an unusually in depth presentation of his early life and family history.  Elvis is the King - that's final, settled, and all there is to it.  You don't need to run anymore polls on this topic.

King of teenage heartthrobs, maybe, but NOT the king of rock and roll.  Chuck Berry has a better claim to that title but never got even
close because he was, to use his own euphemism, a brown "eyed" man.

I too love Elvis.   He was the Sinatra of rock and roll, and that's saying something.

The king for me is JERRY LEE LEWIS
But Rock n Roll has one word:
C H U C  K  •  B E R R Y

I pray he will forgive me of my YankeeSin.

All kidding aside, I wonder if 1000 years from now if Elvis will be seen in the same category as The Buddah and Jesus of Nazareth?????

God I hope not, that's not what I meant, you know, If fact there is no such thing as a true anything, I got called on that once. And I have to admit there is no such thing as being a true anythig. I love Elvis what he stood for his music, and alot of other things, But he is not to be confused with the real King. Which is somebody by the name of Jesus, in my book.
By The way,
Elvis did forgive you of your Yankee Sin  :) :blankfriggingstare1

Chuck's impact was immense on the actual science of the music of rock and roll.  Elvis created the pscyhology of rock and roll: sex.   Chuck couldn't do that.  Both men are critical but you cannot give all credit to JUST one.

Whoa there, MM.  Give old Belle a little notice before you spring a 1956 Elvis on me.  Caused some serious palpitations.  And while you're at it could you ease your avatar down a trifle?  It blocks out part of your post.
