Title: Insane Bolt
Post by sirmoonie on Aug 16th, 2008 at 12:45pm
Holy god almighty fucking Christ, that is crazy what that guy did.  He could have gone 9.6(?) if he hadn't started playing games.  And he still has the 200.

I hope his piss holds water.  Probably will, he's been running down to that time since 2003.  Plus, none of hundreds of massively overrepresented Caribbean sprinters have mainlined.  Only American athletes do that.

He won the 100 meter dash at the Olympics in World Record time. So he is the "world's fastest human". Tyson Gay didn't even make the final.

Truly astonishing.
I saw him, in the flesh, run 200m, at Crystal Palace, London, a fortnight ago, and believe me, he'll
win that event in Beijing too.

I only wish i could celebrate and marvel at his talent and his achievements, without suspicion.

And it's that suspicion, thats casting a huge shadow and killing Track and Field (amongst numerous other sports).

Not only did he slaughter the world record, but he was in second gear with his hands down by his waist for about the last 15 metres.

Christ knows what his time would have been had he put the effort in.

I hear you, but he has been scrutinized a lot recently and passed a lot of tests to get where he is.  And he was running times that would indicate world record talent back when he was in some Jamaican ghetto school.  And Caribbeans just don't go for banned substances.  I can't think of any that have been banned or sanctioned, whereas the U.S. can barely field a relay team at times.  But yes, I hope its legit.  Because that guy was smoking!

Lucky you seeing that Crystal Palace meet, home of many great performances over the years.

Holy See.  I never thought I would see that 200 record go.  This Bolt defies words.  Breaks the 100 and 200 world records within days in the Olympics.  That's one of the greatest achievements in the history of sports.

If Wariner breaks the 400 record, this is one whacky time.  And all the piss appears to be of the proper viscosity and texture, according to the tasters.

Fast fucker to be sure, but Michael Phelps is THE story from these Olympics. Bolt will be a mere footnote when compared to eight, count 'em EIGHT, gold medals. Nobody is EVER gonna touch that record in our lifetime's. Bolt's record won't last twenty years. Bank on it.

Absurd application of the repudiated quantity v. quality doctrine.  Bolt is never going to be a footnote given the magnitude of what he just did.

Phelps won 8 medals because he competes in a sport where its possible, if not common, to compete in multiple events, which says more about the sport than it does about Phelps.  Two medals were in relays to boot.  I don't think its even logistically possible to compete in 8 events in any other sport.  That said, if there was a 200 meter run where the runners had to throw both arms over their heads every 5 meters, Bolt would win that in world record time too.

Swimming world records get broken on an apparent monthly basis, which also says a lot about the quality and infancy of the sport.  Being a world ranked swimmer at the moment is similar to being a great hockey player, tennis player, or golfer.  Blacks hardly participate, and the few, or even the single solitary ones that do are immediately world class.  If Usain Bolt's high school had an indoor Olympic size pool instead of a dirt track, you might not even know who Michael Phelps was.

Usain Bolt vs. Michael Phelps in terms of athletic ability and achievement?  Peel of the liberal American media hype that got you thinking the way you are, and its pretty clear who was shining in Beijing.

Which parts of what I said are wrong?

1. I can't think of any sport, except swimming, where its possible to logistically compete in 8 events.  Some of those swimming events are almost redundant to each other.  There is always some guy with a pile of medals in swimming.  Are there other sports where an athlete can compete in 8 events?  I know its impossible in track, beach volleyball, rowing, table tennis, baseball, diving, boxing, skeet shooting, and pontoon.  Maybe gymnastics?  I don't know of one.

2. Swimming commentators are remarking how silly it seems that every time any swim meet of any relative importance is held, record tumble.  That can only be an indication of a shallow talent "pool" in a relatively low profile sport.  I've seen one black swimmer in my entire life, Cullen Jones, and he is on the U.S. Olympic team.

3. Blacks do not compete in swimming.  Like golf, it remains a white sport - a wealthy white sport.  You need a high school, and probably junior high, with an indoor Olympic pool as a BARE minimum to get anywhere.  The vast majority of blacks, and even most non-California based whites don't have such a thing.  If and when blacks enter the sport of swimming, its absurd to believe that it won't revolutionize the sport, making Phelps look like some Bronco Nagurski relic from the chlorine era.

4. You vastly underestimate Bolt's achievement.  He didn't just run the fastest - breaking two world records in perenially, heavily competitive events like the 100 and 200, at the Olympic Games, is unheard of and hardly thought possible.  Carl Lewis, Michael Johnson, Jim Thorpe, Jesse Owens, none of those highly skilled athletes pulled that.  That is the greatest performance in track and field history, and maybe all of sports.

5.  Phelps is a media sensation.  He's American.  After Sunday, you won't hear the name of the fastest man on earth again until 2012.  He is not American, he's Jamaican.  In that capacity, he doesn't sell, not even right now on NBC.  That's the definition of liberal American media hype.

Which parts of what I said were so flat out wrong that you needn't say more?

In the 112 year history of the modern Olympic Games not one man or woman has ever won eight gold medals in one Olympic Games. Not one! Carl Lewis had a way better Olympic career run than Bolt did back in 1984. Bolt is fast. Very very fast, but he has to date 2 gold medals. To try and dismiss the sheer magnitude of what Phelps has acheived is absurd on it's face. Then to try and play the race card with regards to the sport is just flat out stupid. Phelps has worked his ass off and has seen the rewards for all his hard work. I'd bet my last dime that Phelps' training regime is every bit as tough, if not a hell of a lot tougher, than what Bolt does. Phelps swims an average of 80 miles a week during his training periods!!!!!

Hey, what Phelps did is great, there ain't no denying that.  But what Bolt did, and to win at the margin of victory that he did is nuts.  Bolt would have won 8 medals if there were an 80m dash, 90m dash, 110 m dash...you get my point.  He would have won some backwards dashes also.  What Phelps did is great, but swimming allows him to do what he did.  How Bolt blew the rest of the world away is mindblowing.

While a lot of what you say may well be true it still doesn't account for the fact that Bolt could have gone for more but he chose not too. For example, Carl Lewis not only got the gold in 1984 for the 100m and the 200m, but he took gold in the long jump and in the 4x100m relay. The 4x 100 m relay is not included in these Olympics, but there are other events that he could have competed in. Yet he didn't.

It was a very impressive feat to be sure, but I still say it pales to what Phelps did at these games. I mean it's apples and oranges to be sure, but how much talent does it take to run fast? God given talent for sure, but where is the skill? Phelps can claim that he had to actually learn at least four seperate swim strokes and the ability to do that insane dolphin kick underwater. Not to mention the skill that he showed when he came to the walls. Bolt ran. Ran fast but just ran.

The amount of medals has been explained to you several times.  It is impossible to even participate in 8 events in any other sport.  Simply saying his achievement is a superior athletic achievement to Bolt's because he beat him 8 to 2 in golds is like saying SomeGuff is an Olympic-worthy poster based on his post count.

Nobody played the race card.  WT flying F?  The "race card' is played when a member of a minority race claims unfairness with respect to evaluation of their efforts in a particular process, e.g., employment, politics, grading, trial, even though the claimed unfairness is not present.  That is the common understanding of what "playing the race card" is.  Its not even close to anything I argued - complete opposite in fact.

Nobody has dismissed anything.  I wouldn't even accuse you of dismissing what Bolt did, although you're coming close.  I put what Phelps did in what I believe is un-hyped factual persepctive, you said it was all flat wrong, and then changed the topic into the "race card" and who trains harder.  Not sure why that matters one bit, and I have no idea who trains harder.  I'll bet marathon runners train harder than both Phelps and Bolt combined, but unless some marathon runner runs his event under 2:00:00, I'll stick with Bolt's achievements being by far the most impressive of the Olympics, irrespective of what the liberal media wants you to believe.

LOL!!!! You're kidding right?!?!?! YOU played the gawtdamned race card bigger 'n shit! "There aren't any black guys in swimming." That is the race card played backwards, but it's the race card all the same.

I also pointed out that Bolt could have competed in more events, but HE chose not to!! What Bolt did was very impresive, but again please explain the skill involved?! Talent for very fast runninhg, yes. He's loaded God given talent. Carl Lewis set the world record in the 100 and 200 in his day, and then for good measure he went out and took the gold in long jump and the 4x 100m relay. Bolt didn't.

Plus your argument about the amount of events that Phelps could compete in actually makes his feat that much MORE impressive!! Every single one of the swimmers COULD have competed against him. In fact many did. Yet it was Phelps who beat every single one of them and set 7 world records in the process.

Face it. You just like track and field better than you like swimming so it has made your argument biased from the start. Now had Bolt won the 100, 200, long jump, javelin, discuss, high jump, pole vault, and the 400m hurdles then your argument might have a semblance of merit, but as it stands Phelps has eight golds to Bolt's two.

He wins all that goddam stuff and all I get is a freakin' semblance?  Hmmm.....enlightening as to mens rea.

Riffy, I've never seen a black guy throw a javelin, btw.  Historically, its just not done.  For various reasons.  You understand.

Well Wariner got skunked.  So we know he isn't better than Phelpsie.  I hope you're happy, Riffy.  I hope you are happy with the skunkage.

Bolt gets another gold, helps shatter another world record in the 4X100.  Its now 8 to 3, Riffy, and he still has the 5,000, the marathon, and maybe some others to go.  You should be squelching in your pumps, because he also said that him and Osafa are picking up swimming over the winter.

I read that Bolt ran a 52 second 400 when he was 12 years old.  That time probably means nothing to most of you fat white schlubs, but its as astounding as anything else he's done.  One of his mentors Donald Quarrie said "We knew this was coming."

24 year old Bronx native, Cullen Jones has become the third black man to make the Olympic Swim Team in history! He will compete in the upcoming Beijing Olympics! He made the team by finishing third in swimming trials this past Saturday. Along the way, Jones also set an American record for the 50 meter race!

if you never thought you were a racist, then you probably aren't. i often ask myself if i'm a racist, so that means I might be, people who aren't racist don't say things about race to make a point. Example. I have 3 neighbors who have talked to me about former owner of my home. the first two never mentioned race, a third did. they were a black family, and he pointed out, that he thought they hit hardtimes with money. Guess what, i realized in my minds eye, as I was being told this, how different I now viewed things. i might not be lighting crosses, but i' got work to do, if i want to.... I'm also not gonna act like I'm something i'm not or pretend to have imaginary tolerance either...
