" Macca and new love Nancy get their kicks on Route 66 "


" Sir Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell have stepped their romance up a gear with a road trip across America.

The former Beatle and his heiress girlfriend have been fulfilling a lifelong dream travelling the remains of the legendary Route 66 highway in an old Ford Bronco truck.

After starting their road trip from the rocker's home in The Hamptons, New York last Thursday, the couple joined the Route 66 in Illinois on Saturday.

The couple plan to follow the route, which was decommissioned in the mid-1980s, all the way to the end at Santa Monica pier in Los Angeles.

As the 66-year-old rocker and his love follow the road, which originally ran from Chicago to LA, they will pass through seven U.S. states, including Arizona and Missouri.

As the pair stopped for a re-fuel in the Illinois state capital of Springfield, Sir Paul was happy to pose with a group of fans for photos.

As Nancy took the photo, a group of young males posed alongside Sir Paul, who predictably put on his trademark thumbs up.

C.J. Lowder, the man wearing sunglasses in the photo, said: 'They looked totally in love.

'They told us they were on a trip and going on to St Louis (Missouri) before heading west.

'No one could believe it was really him - he was so laid back and ordinary. They seemed a great couple.'

The month-long road trip is believed to be the couple's longest holiday - they previously vacationed together in the Caribbean in April.

A source said: 'The road trip was Nancy's idea as a way of them getting to bond and spend time together - just the two of them.'

Sir Paul and Nancy have been dating since November, but only went public as a couple in May when the singer picked up an honorary doctorate in music from America's prestigious Yale University. "

Paul vacationed in the Hamptons for years---even as far back as when Heather was alive. Stella said she started going there when she was a little girl. I'm not sure how long MACCA has owned a mansion there, but it goes back at least to last year sometime.

Paul McCartney's car trouble "


" Sir Paul McCartney nearly had his car impounded on Saturday after parking in the wrong place.

The 66-year-old musician is currently on a road trip with girlfriend Nancy Shevell in the US, but the journey almost came to an abrupt end after the singer parked illegally at Joliet Area Historical Museum, Illinois.

Tony Contos, a worker at the museum, said: "They parked in the wrong bay and were nearly towed away. Paul was engrossed, Nancy seemed in a bit of a hurry."

The Beatles legend and his girlfriend are currently on a road trip across America's famed Route 66 in a classic 1989 Ford Bronco.

However they shocked staff at the museum when they stopped en route from Nancy's home in the Hamptons, New York.

Museum worker Pamela Blesen said: "I froze. It was like seeing Bigfoot."

And an onlooker added: "They seemed totally in love."

The couple are believed to have told only a few friends about the trip, and Paul's four-year-old daughter Beatrice is expected to join them later. "

" Sir Paul McCartney has shunned expensive hotels in favour of camping.

The 66-year-old musician is currently on a US road trip with girlfriend Nancy Shevell, and the pair decided to spend a night under the stars when they arrived at Bennett Springs State Park in Missouri last weekend.

A fellow camper said: "It was incredible to see one of the world's richest musicians going back to basics.

"They didn't seem to have a care in the world as they laughed and joked with each other."

After spending the night in their tent, the couple further amazed onlookers when they set off on a hike in stifling heat.

A source explained to Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "It was nearly 30 degrees but the heat didn't slow them down at all.

"They were like two teenagers on a first date - it was really sweet.

"They were seen tucking into sandwiches. Paul even had a cheeky bottle of stout which he had packed away."

The jellyfish come out when the water warms up, and we are seeing them at the Jersey shore now too. You see them alot in warmer waters. Thats the reference to the 'Global Warming' theory!

Sir Paul McCartney is to play a concert in Tel Aviv next month - 43 years after being banned from performing there.

Israel's government banned the Beatles in 1965, fearing they would corrupt young fans.

But earlier this year, Ron Prosor, Israel's ambassador to the UK, visited Liverpool and apologised to the band for the "misunderstanding".

The gig takes place on 25 September. "We can't wait to get out there and rock," said Sir Paul in a statement.

"I've heard so many great things about Tel Aviv and Israel, but hearing is one thing and experiencing it for yourself is another," he added.

"We are planning to have a great time and a great evening."

Sir Paul has played a number of special, one-off concerts around the world this year, including the Independence Concert in Kiev, Ukraine; in Liverpool as part of the city's European Capital of Culture celebrations; and in Quebec to help celebrate the Canadian city's 400th anniversary.

He is also due to make a rare live appearance with his dance music side project, The Fireman, on Jools Holland's BBC Two show when it returns on 16 September.
