I live about 25 miles north of the center -- first quake since moving to California last year :aimama
Still no reports of major damage or injuries...but I don't know how someone in downtown could've missed it! Okay, can any seasoned Californians tell me how long it'll be before my knees stop shaking :o |

Some adult beverages should help the shaking. You never get totally used to them but the more of them you go through, the faster the uneasiness passes. |

They should stop shaking just in time for the aftershocks to hit :wtf2....No,just kidding. You'll get use to it. A 5.4 is nothing. Wait till you get to the ones in the 6's and 7's and bridges and freeways start collapsing. Now those are fun. :'( |

Even the small ones are scarey. I missed the 1989 SF quake by 24 hours. I felt alot of small ones my 20 years in SF, something freaky about the earth moving like that. Total feeling of powerlessness, no control, no security. |

Yeah,no doubt about it. First of all,you get absolutley no warning. Then you don't know how strong it will be,or when it will stop. Just that the ground under you keeps shaking. Like you said, you feel powerless and yeah they can scare the shit out of you. I'm glad that no one in LA appears to have been hurt and damage isn't serious. |

Thanks, I feel better knowing my response was normal enough -- I wasn't really freaked out during, it happened too damn fast and all was just adrenaline and acting instinctively. It was more the aftermath, when there was actually time to take in exactly what you guys are talking about: the lack of warning, the feelings of powerlessness and uncertainty. |

I talked to a friend of mine today, who lives in North Hollywood. She said her apt. on the 5th floor shook like crazy. Her husband was grabbing the tv and waiting for it to end. Scary shit indeed. Glad everyone is ok.
