Title: He's in Rehab!!!
Post by LadyJane on Jul 16th, 2008 at 2:48pm
Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood enters rehab 2 hours, 50 minutes ago

LONDON (Reuters) - Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood has entered rehab for a drinking problem, his spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

"Following Ronnie's continued battle with alcohol he has entered a period of rehab," Wood's spokeswoman said in London. "His close family and friends say he is seeking help and look forward to his recovery."

The announcement followed a series of British newspaper reports that Wood, 61, had been spending time at his Irish retreat with a young Russian cocktail waitress.

They added that the relationship had threatened his 23-year-old marriage to wife Jo.

Wood, who has had a history of substance abuse, told Reuters in an interview last year that his wife and Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger had persuaded him to enter rehab before the band's 2002 tour.

Before then, it was fellow guitarist Keith Richards who tried to help him sober up, he said, sometimes drawing a knife or wielding a pistol in the process.

Another battle...but this is good news indeed!

LONDON (AP) - Ronnie Wood entered a rehabilitation facility Wednesday for help with alcoholism, said a spokeswoman for the Rolling Stones guitarist.

"Following Ronnie's continued battle with alcohol he has entered a period of rehab," the spokeswoman said on condition of anonymity as required by her agency. "His close family and friends say he is seeking help and look forward to his recovery."

Wood, 61, has fought a long battle with alcoholism during his rock 'n' roll career, which started in the 1960s when he played with the band The Faces.

His spokeswoman didn't release any details about the treatment he will receive or the clinic that he entered.

Thanks for the update!

Fox news online had reported this morning that Jo has thrown in the towel.
But I suspect that it is more frustration than anything and that if he gets his head together, she will likely stay.
She must know that if she leaves him, he will spiral out of control.

This is a good first step.
Step away from the skank.
Put down the bottle.
Enjoy the hours of hallucinations as you detox.

Then go patch up your ass.

Ronald!

Honestly...

You might be right.

I was amazed at how much Ronnie contributed in Shine a Light.
For him to play that well, he needs to be focused on the task of being a Rolling Stones guitarist first and a Rolling Stone second.  This whole fiasco is the latest of the second category that generally does none of them any good.

in a way it is a good thing that he fucked up more than just drinking. With Jo hurt, and the reality he could lose the best person in the world, might be what makes him hit his bottom and really jump into recovery. He knows how it is, he's been sober. Hopefully Jo knows what to do as well. The family of alcoholics can feel just as sick and as bad as the drinker, and also need help. I really hope she is the tough person she appears to be, and tells him like it is and doesn't clean up his mess for him.

If he has been coerced to enter....forget about it... :-[

Coercion of sorts can work... things like handcuffs and judges helped me get sober. Hopefully his perspective is changed if Jo told him go or I go...

Oh I know it CAN work, P..especially court ordered lock ups..

but the likeihood of success if he is just "playing along to keep everyone off his case" ..well you know the score.  And to be honest, even though I believe about zilch of the tabloid shit, I don't think Jo is anywhere near the point of walking out on him.  Other than his health, which he obviously gives 2 shits about, he isn't anywhere close to hitting "rock bottom"...

Very sad....

jo isn't leaving - these ladies never do...
jagger had to finally impregnate someone else for jerry hall to get out....this is merely a 'ran off with a young model' episode...
sad to say, but the stones are with women like this for a reason - they put up with everything.
i like jo, but apart from charlie and shirley, the stones treat their women like underwear.
how many among us, ladies, would put up with his shit?

Keith has always been extremely loyal to his women.
Maybe he was a bad boy years ago, but he and Patti seem to be doing quite well.

And Jo is a smart woman. She might just have finally had enough.

I hope Ronnie is in an intense program.
No more of this 30 day crap.
He needs 90 days at LEAST..if he is truly serious.

I wish him all the best!!

true, i specifically didn't mention pattie...
she's probably my favorite latter-day stones woman - never took shit and just demanded respect.
she's a great ball-buster - something the stones need but can rarely handle.
pattie was probably the best thing that happened to keith and he was man enough to appreciate it.
although there is a great song from talk is cheap, make no mistake, where keef sounds like a scoundrel....great song.

Texile, the bigger question is why don't these women give them the punishment they deserve which is a big fuck off. Jo is a capable person, I just don't understand why women forgive men like this.

On a different issue, how does anyone know that Keith is loyal to Patti. There is no way to know that and I bet he's cheated on her a few times over the years. I would put money on him being like most of the rest of them. They just seem to have a different relationship and he's not the emotional train wreck that is Ronnie Wood.

you were working in as a waitress in a cocktail bar... when I met you...
turned you into something new, now 5 years on you've got the world at your feet success has been so easy for you..

who's to say it was not love, love of desparation... I think ronnie has a very difficult decision death v. loyalty

the thing is, when you see your husband bent on destroying yourself you pull away b/c you don't want to watch him die. I'm quite sure thats what happened with Jo and I don't blame her she was trying to protect her heart, I am identifying myself with her and I see my experienced mirrored in theirs and it really saddens me, so much to see the likeness and in retrospect, I would not have turned my man away but I was not strong enough to let him go.

oh my man was addicted to fun. he was a lot of fun.  such a fucking comedian, and a great carpenter and fisherman and a great friend of mine. I miss him very much.  a bottle of vodka and that's the end.

Sounds like things are looking up for Ronald.  He's got the poise and he's got the moxie.  Both.

What are they going to do to him in this rehabilitation facility?  Does he get a chance to say his piece, or is the point to make him shut up and listen?  Those doctors have their work cut out, because I guarantee he doesn't give a rip what they say about his health.  Nobody who smokes cigarettes does.  And telling a millionaire rock star that his whole life has been one big fuck up for the last 30-40 years isn't going to comport with what Ronnie sees objectively - family, friends, Large $$$$$$, mansions, world travel, guitars, paint brushes, parties, celebs, albums, blimp rides, etc.  They are going to have to install one of those pneumatic Naltrexone pumps in his liver to convert this guy.

Rehab tends to work best the first two or three times. After that they don't have a great success rate. Because they can only teach you so much....The Detox aspect is fine...it helps to get the culprit, I mean client, back to some semblence of health. Plus rehabs usually take the AA approcah....I think the RR approach is better.

Keith should rehab the marijuna issues first.  That's why he hasn't written a song in 20 years.  He could rehab on marijuana while Ronald rehabs on alcohol, and then they switch it up.  Because there is no goddam way those guys should be in the same rehab, they'll turn the place upside down like McMurphy and Broom (Bromden).

I'm relieved to hear Ronnie's in rehab. I just hope he stays there for a sufficient amount of time. These little two-week stints he does are not rehab. It takes at least two weeks just to detox. At this stage of the game, considering his age, substance abuse history, and the fact that he's a Rolling Stone, the most I'm hoping for is that he gets his shit together and just stops drinking himself to death. Hang in there, Ronnie.

true on both points....
and Wick, at the risk of seeming a judgemental bitch, why DO these women put up with this shit..
it's easy to romanticize the rocker and rock chick romance, but the reality is that alot of these women are so passive and accept them for what they are..in spite of their own self-respect or lack thereof.
i had an argument once with a friend who marveled and awed the girlfriend of someone who 'put up with him no matter what...because she LOVES him....' that's co-dependency to me.
i was like, 'are you crazy?'

Well that's the crux of the matter isn't it. If women just stood up for themselves more, it might change things. This crap is romanticized because it's men who make the judgements and paint the romantic picture. That's why a woman, whether she's a rocker or not, is a slut if she does this stuff, but a guy is a bonafide rocker who had a fling and is just being rock and roll or some cliched shit like that. He's an embarrassment to his family, anyone believing otherwise is as delusional as he is.
