I don't know if you guys are in the mood for that, but I figured with RO's 10-year anniversary and the sad Ronnie situation, this would be a good thread to keep us all entertained ;D
So come on! What are everyone's top 10 most memorable moments in the 10 years of Rocks Off so far? Funny, creepy, sad, happy, whatever! :perverted |

The day Pavlov's Dog posted his pic. Then Sir Stonesalot came up with Pavlov's Hog.....It was quite cruel on SS's part....but funny as hell. At least to me at the time.

Fotini, this is JUST what we needed!!!
So many funny memories. --The entire saga of Fuck You Gazza, will ya??? --Josh's humiliation of being stuck in Philly with a group of Hip Hop acts after the AC cancellation. (Joshy come home. We need you!!) --Nankerace and the susequent saga of "the missing devil Head avatar" --gypsy and LJ posing/posting as Joey and Josh one Saturday afternoon. (We were GOOD) --The setlist threads..and "watching the songs come in" --All of Ian's posts. --The Joey? thread OMG..I'm sitting here giggling. This IS the Asylum. LJ. |

The day that Gazza pegged the Stone's 2000th gig. As I recall they didn't even know it themselves.

I havent been here since the start but I do remember the buzz around the tracker getting the RS Monitor Mixes of Steel Wheels and how good they were. Then the anticipation that we had a new inside source with more hidden gems. Sadly like many of our dreams that never materialized.
Another great memory was the Atlanta SAL Summitt with JJ/Some Guy/Tippy and several other great Stones fans. |

Oh so many for my relatively "new" status compared to you old pros...
Joey threads, the Feej Wars, the oh so heated political threads when the whole "gang" was still around here postin and Mr. Moderator Gazza wa constantly needing to battle the bad children.. Pretentious Poet, Stones Security, and Michael Cohl.. The most fun I can remember was the setlist/summit threads when our resident camera man, Egon, kept us up to date with photos and videos... Wonder if we'll get a chance to do it again? |

Great thread Fotini, I'm going to start a new one on Saturday about the honors we have received with pictures etc (including mentiones in rock magazines, newspapers, radio stations, press conferences, and of course the video of the 2,000th show, the SOTM mention, etc
About THIS one is a hard question...a lot of great moments, I'll be later with some as I'm leaving now |

Call me sick if you wish, Meggypoo, but what type of poo is this, Meggy???? (donkey?) CONGRATS TO EVERYONE ON THE OCCASION OF RO's 10TH ANNIVERSARY!!!!!! AND THANKS TO THE UNHOLY TRINITY!!!!!!! I'm pretty new, really, and sadly I missed LJ and gypsy's mastercoup (is there a link, LJ???) but I still chose two memorable moments, one favourite post and one favourite poster. Worst: the day one of my jokes got very misunderstood, and I got beaten the shit out of (metaphorically speaking, of course) by absolutely every American on this board, the "gangleader" being the lying sleaze-ball Tele, of all people! Does anyone still remember him????? Best: Gazza and GTRM on tour in Lisbon , with loads of live footage, interviews, photos and video-clips masterly helped onto the website by PDM, Egon and LJ! It was almost as good as being there, what a fantastic thread that was, it really made my heart smile.... Still the funniest, and my absolute favourite post of all times was Nellcote saying: "...Mick Taylor???.......aah.....now I remember....the one that looks like Elizabeth Taylor..." It still cracks me up every time I remember. And, if we're giving a prize to the most "artistic" poster, then I think it should go to pdog, his dancing asian girl will live on in my husband's memory forever... PS: I must be allowed another newbie question on the occasion of an anniversary: WHAT THE FUCK IS THE NICK NOLTE THING ABOUT??? The pictures, the references, etc???? Is there a connection with Joey? |

"WHAT THE FUCK IS THE NICK NOLTE THING ABOUT??? The pictures, the references, etc???? Is there a connection with Joey?" :pullanolte
That would be my doing! I saw that mugshot way back when and I fell apart. When Nolte got busted, he was driving all over the road and the cop stopped him and arrested him. Apparently he was drooling all over himself - turns out, not only was he drunk but he also had a date rape drug (gbh??) in him. So the dude was planning on slipping someone a mickey and got the ol' switcharoo pulled on him. Anyway, the picture is worth a million words and so "pulling a Nolte" became the thing around here. I mean seriously -- look at that pic again!! The shirt The hair The frown :pullanolte FYI - http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/nnolte1.html |

Title: Re: RO's Top-10 Most Memorable Moments Post by parmeda on Jul 16th, 2008 at 1:16am Howe many of you remember the daily afternoon and Friday night chats in the old chatroom? More gossip, lies, secrets and confessions were strewn across numerous keyboards! 70% of the contributions were from jb himself! Was it Max or Riffy that compiled a drunken Christmas poem? (Funnier than hell...btw) And for the love of god - SS should have had, "Go sit in the corner while I serve you a flaming cup of my fuck!" as a tag-line. I swear he used that on any newb that tried to outwit him. (keyword: tried) Naturally, all of the Fryday Beer Lunches were hysterical... Nanky + Newcastles = LMFAO The outragously funny account of Voodoo singing to his shoe (was that at Giants or MSG?) It doesn't matter. It was fucking funny! The House Party thread - pissing in Mick's koi pond - man, did we know how to dream! Show Us Your Faces - always a favorite... End of the Year RO Awards - talk about stirring up some shit! ...omg! Was he lost? How would he have known? Would he have cared? I think it was more a case of being drunk and daft. We DID lose him at MSG two nights earlier. As he'd decided to go at the last minute, he wasnt sitting with Jaxx and myself, so we'd all agreed to meet at a bar a block or so away (Mustang Harrys, I think). Everyone made it there after the gig but Voodoo. We stayed until around 2 am and then walked back about 15 blocks to Jaxx's sister's apartment in the pissing rain, stepping over a few winos en route, wondering what had happened to our comrade, and fearing the worst. How the fuck can you get lost walking one block south on 8th Avenue? We arrived back to find him tucked up in bed, snoring (and probably farting) like a freight train. He was wandering around the Garden after the show in a drunken state and just happened to be found by Jaxx's sister, who was on her way out of the gig, having been seated elsewhere in the arena. She brought his drunken ass home. His natural homing instinct had come up trumps again. My own everlasting memory of that trip occurred once I arrived in New York. Jaxx hadnt told me or anyone else that he was coming (they wanted to surprise me), but unknown to me he'd secured a ticket at the last minute. I'd got the bus to Grand Central and was walking down Park Avenue, respectably dressed in a suit (it wasnt long after 9/11 and for some reason we'd been advised to look respectable and non threatening when flying into the US) and minding my own business. I'd got about as far as 31st Street when I could swear I hears this voice..."Gazza!"....No, I thought. I'm 3,000 miles from home. No one knows me in New York. Walked on another 20 steps...."Gazza!"..... I thought, there's something fishy goin' on here.....and then the voice goes again..."Gazza - You Cocksucker!".....At this point I curled my right hand into a fist and turned around to confront my aggressor - and there's this Mexican lunatic standin' there with a shit-eatin grin on his face and his arms wide apart... "What the fuck are YOU doin' here?" I said, disbelievingly "I'm here to see the Stones!" (At this point, I'm beginning to get edgy as I've been told the apartment we're staying in is pretty small, has one bedroom and only one person normally lives in it..) "Uh...great....and where are you staying?" "I'm staying with YOU!!!!" "Oh fuck!!" A chaotic few days ensued as you can imagine, but we had a hoot. |

Beers for lunch
I still have the Newcastle tap handle from those days. :pullanolte If I were a shrink, I think I would conduct a case study of the place. An entire chapter alone could be devoted to Joey and his fetishes. Really wish I had logged it better. For the first few years I could remember more of the themes and jokes. But as time marches, and lives get busier, you can lose touch with it all. I hate that. Gazza mentioned the rain after MSG - holy shit - Maxmeister and I walked for an hour all around MSG trying to find that party. We were drenched. By the time we got there, people were starting to head out That was the night I first heard of infllatable party sheep (IPS) from she whose name shall not be spoken. :aimama One of my fondest memories was the opener of the tour in Boston last time out. I'm standing in the bar at the four seasons and this big guy, semi-shaven, in a t-shirt with a goat's head on it and a bandana in his hair comes over and says "hey"like he knows me. I look the guy over and I don't recognize him at all. Maybe someone I met at SARS in Toronto? I don't know - I think he must be drunk and thinks I am someone else. "Can I buy you a drink nanker?" he says Oh shit. He knows me. But I am clueless. It's jb. Another strange incident occurred in Chicago at Soldier Field (not the freezing show). A bunch of us are standing there by the food place while the opener played. And this guy comes up to me and says "hey are you nankerphelge" I figure I am being served Turns out he is a friend of Joey's and recognized me from some post. :blankfriggingstare1 |

Some moments you didn't see
Waking up early in the morning to delete some drunken posts by.... myself LOL One day it was the first appearance of me in underware (the classic) with the lyrics of HAPPY, Lazy Bones said many times it was a RO classic One day I read a message with a song "Hey there people I'm Voodoo Chile" with lyrics based on Zappa's Bobby Brown with the picture of me in underware! I left that one One day I banned myself to prevent drunk-posting and then I was so drunk that couldn't unban me so I gotta wait till the hungover passed so I didn't change the header in two days |

Other classic you didn't see...
Gazza and I planned to share the hotel room in Hartford (March 1999!!) I arrived since Friday and partied with people from Undercover, then Gazza arrived on Sunday to find that there was only one bed in the hotel room, I freaked out and Gazza told me... don't worry, I don't fuck a guy the first date! :aimama |

lest we forget the classic meltdowns....feel free to post them, someone, if they were saved.
fleabit's "fuck you nazis" and anything related to across the street immediately comes to mind! gypsy's stalking was funny if a) she wasn't stalking you, and b) you weren't an admin lambie talking about how terrible fleabit was in the sack could someone please post SS's "the stones have sold out" farewell post? or at the very least his "we're playing at the carrot festival in the cowachella valley" post? strange thing is, i can't think of any newb meltdowns at RO, unlike pavlov's meltdown over at kkeno's. |

Thanks, nankerphelge, :pullanolte suddenly became MUCH more funny.... And what about "LJ and the inflatable sheep", where does that connection come in????Or is it too personal and should I be back-channelling you about it, LJ??? [smiley=smiley.gif] And what were those weird picture posts of Joey's about??? They ususally contained pictures of Golda Meier, Ben Gurion, a flag of Israel, and then, totally without reason, an underwater picture of a gigantic sea jellyfish that looked exactly like a big circumcised dickhead. It totally cracked me up every time I saw it, was that the point, or is there some hidden philosophical meaning???? And I promise not to ask any more newbie questions.....for now... PDM: I'm a chocoholic, but don't think I'd eat that, it looks exactly like donkey shit.... Voodoo: I think that a drunk postmaster who bans and then drunkenly forgets how to unban himself has got to be a pretty unique feature, exclusive to RO.... |

I think my very first online friend was Sir Stonesalot. Of course, there was the Fleabit Peanut Monkey (FPM, hey, you're still missed). There was AZQB (where are you, girl). Maxmeister, 2000 Man and of course, Keno, the "Chairman of the board". There was Maxlugar, and the Storm (I think). There was the Jimmy Whitley and Syph, and Ginda.
Really Good Friends. The early days were so cool. |

A petard was a medieval IED or explosive mine. The wight who set it and didn't run was "hoist" in the air by his own bomb. It's a French word, and the "-tard" may refer to a "delayed" explosion. |

I remember a good period on this board was when The Stones were about to have their Licks tour conference and it was like just under a week until this. There were rumors of the blimp here on the board and I thought ..."lol, no way". Then later actual pictures of this blimp in a hanger were posted here and we were very excited and taken back by the site of it.
Also nobody knew what exactly their hits compilation would include for this tour but that it would include newly recorded tunes that were brand new from them. We were excited as well as inquisitive about that. It was May of 02 and there was a good vibe, and buzz in the air. The board had an excitement at this time. This is my fondest memory of this board thus far. Ian |

Not sure curiosity is what I'd call it. But then again, I'm not a hot Asian either. Let's see . . . When bloozehound showed up he got brutally hazed in a thread about that "School of Rock" movie. The saga of the tarps climaxed in a Michael Cohl approved theory that they would eventually sell "behind tarp" seating. The SS leaves thread was about as classic a Hindenburg moment as I can remember on the board - really a bridge burning scorched earth gaffe from a once-great poster . . . although it did lead to the briefly popular concept of "Stoneaholism". And then there was "Stoneszac" . . . |

Gonna take this thread to a serious note, but it's worth mentioning.
One of the GREATEST things about RO is that we are like a little family. And family does pull together when times get rough. I know that I used RO as my diary when my Mom was dying. Where else could I express all my thoughts 24-7 and have people genuinely care? I'll never forget the love and support I received from RO during my darkest time. Thank you all. And the Birthday Threads are always nice too. Makes ya feel special to know that people all over the world wish you well. LJ. |

From Dictionary.com: Word History: The French used pétard, "a loud discharge of intestinal gas," for a kind of infernal engine for blasting through the gates of a city. "To be hoist by one's own petard," a now proverbial phrase apparently originating with Shakespeare's Hamlet (around 1604) not long after the word entered English (around 1598), means "to blow oneself up with one's own bomb, be undone by one's own devices." The French noun pet, "fart," developed regularly from the Latin noun pēditum, from the Indo-European root *pezd-, "fart." 1598, "small bomb used to blow in doors and breech walls," from Fr. pétard (1580), from M.Fr. péter "break wind," from O.Fr. pet "a fart," from L. peditum, properly neut. pp. of pedere "to break wind" (in M.L. pettus). Surviving in phrase hoist with one's own petard (or some variant) "blown up with one's own bomb," which is ult. from Shakespeare (1605): "For tis the sport to haue the enginer Hoist with his owne petar" ("Hamlet" III.iv.207). |

I remember reading an interview where Keith talked about "Honky Tonk woman." He said Charlie messed up and came in at the wrong beat. Keith then did the same thing. He came in at the wrong beat. But it all ended up sounding right. He said, "it's something musicologists can analyze for the next thousand years and they will never understand it."
RO is sorta the same thing. Everyone's so wrong and different, but it all ends up working out and feeling right, ya know? Send a psychologist in here and he wouldn't know where to start. He'd be stumped. |
