Congratulations! Rocks Off is a legitimate Rolling Stones website! Stamp of approval from Rolling Stones.com! Very nice! Now try and get some inside information and freebees! ha! RS.com is the last to post any news, Rocks Off is actually more up to date than the 'official' RS website!

no? yes? at the novogate board, the earliest "registered on" date was 2001.

Thats only because we moved to the Novogate server in 2001. We had a couple of other homes before that.

The site was launched on the InsideTheWeb server - as "Goin' Home" - in July 1998, by Linda (kill4mick) from California along with the current 3 admins. When she gave it up in March 1999, Voodoo relaunched it as Rocks Off at another address and persuaded jaxx and myself to co-run it with him, and on GH we redirected the existing members to the new site. Effectively, its the same site but with new owners.

When we moved to novogate back in June 2001 it was our third move (First and second were "insidetheweb.com" two times, but insidetheweb closed), when I posted the change at Stonesdoug's Shidoobeeland I announced it this way

We moved again

http://novogate.com/board/968

obStones: You got to move

obStones: This could be the last time

obStones: Shidoobeeeeeeee!

how many regulars now were around in 1998?

were any of you hoodlums associated with the old stonesworld site, or did RO spring up completely independently?

Title: Re: Site of the Month Header!
Post by Gazza on Jul 14th, 2008 at 9:19am
Completely independendently. When stonesworld (which was the official site pre-BTB)  went tits up, there was an "Exile from stonesworld" message board for a while.

The 4 of us (including Linda) all met in January 1998 on the official Bridges to Babylon site, although I think Voodoo was on Stonesworld before that. I had only got online in December 1997, so I didnt post there.

We left that site as the news section had become non existent to the point where we were finding all the setlists and tour info ourselves and posting it, plus the admins had zero interest in cleaning up all the spam on the message board.

I dont think theres hardly anyone still around from 1998. Tom L is definitely one of them, as I've known him from early 1998 - that said I think quite a few others like Maxy and glencar were on stonesworld, but eventually 'migrated' here via Lew's site. *

Stonesdoug of course was around back then too. As far as I recall, they had an AOL chatroom where they'd get together every week or something and then that sort of developed into Shidoobee.

* Voodoo - whats goin' on here? I typed the word K-E-N-O but when I hit send it posts as "Lew" WTF

Then alot of folks moved to Exile from Stonesworld which tanked quickly.
Then I posted at Lew's board for a few.
Then here right after 9/11.

Goddam I can't believe I have been posting on Stones message boards for 11 years!

Congrats to RO and our unholies for keeping us going!!

For practical purposes it was completly independent, when we started, "Stonesworld" and "Exile fom Stonesworld" were active so just a few from the official website folowed us.

for me it must have been about late 2000 or so -i remember being at the old site for about a year or so before the novogate move  (bloody hell - scary when I think all the time devoted to  it over the years but in the end worth every minute)  and there were quite  a few already there who are still here now

My first messageboard home was Stonesworld as well. I remember back then Lew posted as JJF. Maxy was there too, and of course Nanky as well. Back in those days I used my WebTV! LOL! Remeber those?!

Anyway after that thing shit the bed I was out-of-the-loop for a little while. Then I found Lew's site, and like Nanky, I posted there for a little while. Also, like Nanky, after 9/11 I made the move here and have never looked back. Gee Nanky why do think that 9/11/01 would have been the catalyst for our mutual move? LOL!

Congrats to the Trinity for 10 great years!

Where would we be without rocks off to keep us up to date with all the happenings with the Stones. And thanks again to Voodoo for the Wick header.

It's about the ONLY good thing to come out of rs.CON in a long time.

I'm no longer a member and never bother to go there.

Traumatized by an intense crisis of faith caused by the pathetic uncoolness of BEING MICK, I searched out Stones message boards for the first time, knowing that my days of being able to express undying devotion for the band in all its phases publicly were over - like most shameful secrets, I had to take mine to the internet.

It didn't take long to see which board best suited my nastiness.

Being Mick aired on Thanksgiving 2001, so that is always my convenient RO D-Date.
