Whats it called? Its called U2 music. At least theyre not trying to be a third rate Rolling Stones. call it all the meaningless, indefinable labels you choose - bottom line is that they dont have the songs. Just because its "rock n roll" doesnt mean its "better". I like the IDEA of the Black Crowes. Very fan friendly, random setlists, roots-based music. Unfortunately the songs arent there. saw them 3 nights opening for the Stones at Wembley in 1995. They were fucking horrible. |

No..it doesnt mean shit. So, if I can or choose to 'play the blues' that means I'm worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as the Stones? They're white boys from Dublin. Why the fuck should they be trying to pretend theyre a blues band? You may as well make comparisons with Pearl Jam or The Gypsy Kings. Do you only listen to one type of music? Regardless of whether its good or bad? |

U2 are annoying.
The Crowes have the right feel but they don't have to songs to back it up; boring riffs with boring lyrics.I do enjoy "Twice as hard" and "Jealous again." |

i really cant compare two bands from two different era's and continents. i would just say that U2 hands down has more talent, originality and energy. the crowes are a great bar band. that's it.

Exactly what I was thinking. I know the Crowes personally. Or I should say that I knew the Crowes way back when. Their former bass player,Johnny Colt, was my next door neighbor for years. They are a great bar band, but the best bar that I ever saw in Atlanta was The Georgia Satellites. The only problem with the Satellites was that they got stuck behind the one song that would haunt them forever, Keep Your Hands To Youself. While that was a great tune it got so overplayed that the band couldn't get around it. However, as bar bands go The Satellites blew the Crows off the stage every time. It wasn't even close. I don't personally dig U2 that much, but they are at a completly differnt level than the Black Crowes will ever achieve. They are rock and roll superstars the world over. The Crowes can never make that claim. Riffy |

I think that the Crowes are a better, if less consistent, band. I saw them with Pagey and they were AMAZING!! True, they were playing with Pagey. Who has the new BC CD?
U2 are good at churning out predictable arena hymns that are fool proof. But, they lack spontaneity and brilliance. |

I prefer the Crowes.
Why? They are more "Stonesy". While U2 certainly has it's fan base, I find "Saint Bono" nauseating and the music okay. While I may recognize more of U2's hits, my crotch recognizes that raw, raunchy sound of Rich Robinson's guitar. I've seen both Bands live and preferred the Crowes. Again, more "Stonesy" LJ |

U2 had an incredible run Boy through Rattle and Hum. They made some great angry music. I saw U2 a few times during that stretch, and the shows were incredible. Then came Achtung Baby, and away went a great band.

U2 guitars go dink-a-dink-a-dink.
Black Crowes guitars sound like rock 'n' roll guitars. Plus, Boner has become a grade A wanker. There's an informative cover article in the new Guitar Player about Rich Robinson and Luther Dickinson. |

Ah, just chillin with the weasel... They just plain suck - Bono can't sing and the Edge can't play. They're pretentious, if you want to give me a message, just say it. Otherwise, let's let music be music and not some crappy politcal statement of the month. If I want politics I'll watch Fox, when I want music I buy an album. Music first, message second. The rhythm section can't hold a candle to The Black Crowes or any other halfway decent rock band. How they got to be so damn popular is beyond me. Oh, maybe universal messages of love, peace, and freedom helped U2's overrated cause. The common U2 listener is but a frail consumer my little buddy... But I know Gazza has better taste though, just giving him shit, but they do suck though... |

I saw the Crowes in Philly last week and lemme tell you something...
There is nothing sweeter than a band jamming on vintage Gibson 335's playing music about sex, drugs, and rock and roll. "If you feel like a riot, don't you deny it!" U2 may have the hit records, the amazing fan base, and the piles of money, but the Crowes got that cool ass vibe and attitude. They closed out with a Little Richard cover that I swore would burn the venue to the fucking ground. |
