hi, i think it's a cool cover, it's got that sort of strange vibe to it... i like it!
anyway, the blonde guy on the cover of the NS album is some swedish or danish hardrock singer, with girlfriend... :areyoufuckingserious

They photographed groups of Stones fans before the show at Vienna Neustadt in August 1998 and chose one photo for the cover. The guy was a dentist from Austria. His name was traced, although I cant remember it right now. I dont think his girlfriend was ever identified (some people who chose to read too much into the cover thought she was a guy in drag but apparently this wasnt the case..)

This was the original photo which was used for some of the promotional material for the album  (Courtesy IORR)

Thanks Gazza...that makes sense...I actually like the promo better than the release...reminds me a bit of Some Girls...

The idea of those "whacky" fans and no security now makes sense to me...

Should have been members of RO, IORR, Shidoobee though :-)

Thats too horrific a scenario  to contemplate.

Although, at the time those pictures were taken, I think the only one of those 3 sites that were in existence was ours - only it was called Goin' Home back then.

Little correction. The guy on the album cover is an optician from Vienna, not a dentist.

His name is Wolfgang Dusek.

a quick google search under his name shows someone of that name currently a PHD in Optometry and Vision Sciencework at the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland..

...which by a bizarre coincidence is the same university I graduated from.

Good lord, man, is there anything Stonesian that you don't know? You should start a new site called "Gazzapedia" dedicated to all things Stones!

Only because he corrected himself.   And he's not wrong "all the damn time" like some people here.

Unlike some, I have better things to do with my life than recall off the top of my head the profession of some unknown Austrian guy whose pic was on a Stones album cover 11 years ago. My sincere apologies for having to look it up for your personal amusement.

Tool.

I didnt 'know' it, to be fair. I looked it up. Most of these things can be found with a quick search if you know some of the basic info.

Read it again...i said "recall off the top of my head" (which clearly means I DONT know it)... youre the one getting your knickers in a twist because I didnt "know" it when I made my initial post. As if I care.

I looked it up because someone wanted to know who the guy was. Maybe you could have done that yourself and contributed something instead of just being a pedantic knob.

I wish my knob was pedantic.

Mine is recalcitrant.

I'm getting a knob, then I'm going to pray to it, then I'm going to get rid off it and act like there's no knob!!!

And these pic from where is?

Which stadium is? The stones pic is from any session true?

All this for their worst-ever live album, whose highlight is ruined by Dave Matthews.

It sounds like disc 3 of a  mediocre 4-disc set that one spent too much on and hates to give up.  It's what's playing when they knife you in that dirty, filthy basement.  Jamming With Edward was unavailable.

Off topic a bit for the thread but it's far from their worst live album; if they play and release "deep" cuts (Sister Morphine, Corinna) and newer, hot tracks (SOM, OOC, Switch), its an album with plenty of purpose.

I always got the impression that pic was superimposed over a crowd shot. Cant imagine Keith wearing that clobber onstage.

..and to think at the time we generally welcomed the lack of warhorses on it.

It's worth getting for the version of 'Out of Control' alone. Along with 'Saint of Me', the only 'new' songs the Stones have toured behind in the last 35 years to have consistently bowled an audience over.

Its not a classic, but its better IMO than the two live albums that have followed it.
