8-Randy Jo Hobbs.
9-Frankie Lymon.

I might have left out some names (sorry about that) but these people have lived self-destructive lives, after the date of Brian Jones death, I relazied, how many others have died thru drinking & drugs.
Some are still around to talk about it (Steve Tyler/Alice cooper) but a lot don't, I forgot Marianne Faithful, but I was just looking at musicians, there's so many others, there's thousands, people who live self-destructive all the time.

My choice was Amy Winehouse. Twenty-something y.o. and she already has emphysema?

I'm a bit surprised Alice Cooper is a choice.
He's been sober for 25 or so years and is actively involved in youth programs in his hometown.

Yeah, some people have changed their lives around, & Alice cooper is one of them, he's been sober for over 25 Yrs. he's a born again Christian, but back in the 70's, he used to drink 30 Beers a day, & drink  Seagrams VO at night, he was such an alcoholic that he almost lost all things in his life, he was a serious case that some people thought he would die.

Although not a lot of people know about Bix Beiderbecke, he was the most self-destructive artist of his time, going back to the early 1900's, he was a jazz musician, that a movie was based on, starring Kirk Douglas, he drank himself to death.

Self destructive? I'm not sure that just because someone dies young or even used drugs for awhile necessarily make them self destructive. Does the fact that someone actually survives drugs, like Keith, make them less "self destructive".....?????

My dear Gazza,

Death has a reason for the death smell.   GG Allin, in life, had no reason.

I'm very open minded about musicians and their music, but if you need to do all this sick shit for attention.... he KNEW he WAS a LOSER.

Thanks gazza for the reminder, yes, Iggy was a very self destructive guy in a big way, so was the guy who helped him in the 70's Bowie, he was so addicted to Cocaine, he weighed 90 pounds, & was a walking skelton, & in Frank Sinatra Jr. words "He's the most insane looking human creature I ever had the misfortune to lay my eyes on" after seeing him at the Grammy awards in '75.

What's worse, taking a dump on stage, and rubbing it on yourself, or paying to watch somebody take a dump on stage and rub it on theirself?

I chose mine in terms of drug abuse and how they could and couldnt handle it, hence not goin for keith, cos at least he went for the best stuff and played etc

but you forgot, as mentioned above GG Allin, and also Iggy Pop! he had a terrible time, tho he was never relly self destructive, except when he was really down in the dumps circa 75

you also forgot probly one of the most, along with morrison i'd say, Bob Dylan! his whole life is tryna escape the fame of bob dylan and destroying himself and ppl around him because of it, also he was on heroin, coke and speed for like 2 years straight pretty much, lol, im sure he slept sometime tho, but he was buzzed thru 65/66 kinda thing - then theres the alcoholism thing in later life

Dylan's nearly 50 years into his career, so he's failed miserably at destroying himself...

Destroying themselves doesnt just mean early death, look whose on the list keith, still goin, and ron wood gave himself a bit of destruction thurout his life

but  if you read that clinton heylin bio of dylan, behind the shades, amean he did destory himself, for example, deciding to do that never ending tour thing, it was to keep from goin crazy he said to keep his mind of rage or someting weird u'no, thats kinda tour regime at his age is self destructive

Cobain wins that. No doubt about it.

Lennon also.

And Moon.

Lennon and Moon! (LA, 1974; The Lost Weekend. Can you imagine the quality of the drugs in those days? I can't even find someone to give me any damn grass in my town!)

But it doesn't get any more self destructive than tasting a fucking bullet.

Anyhow, I'd like to mention, like honorable guest, Clapton. People hate him, maybe because he's boring and rich. But he was in Cream, people! They were heavy, dude. And original.  :interestingstuffronnie

I've read some chapters from his autobiography. Brutally honest in his depiction of alcohol. Funny and scary.

In your intial post you disqualified Keith because you said he could "handle it".
If you're positing that Dylan is still self destructive, it's safe to say he can "handle it", too.

As for touring at his age, Willie Nelson and BB King are doing it at a more advanced age than Dylan.

Pinetop Perkins turns 95 today, and he's still out there playing.

Self destructive?
On the contrary, it might just be what keeps 'em all going...

having a addiction four decades ago and still being active today is hardly a good indication of being successfully self-destructive.

Dont know how you can say he's trying to escape 'the fame of Bob Dylan' when in the last few years hes averaged 100 shows a year in every corner of the planet for 2 decades, written the first of 3 volumes of his autobiography, issued numerous volumes of archives celebrating his past achievements. collaborated in a lengthy and high profile documentary about his life and career, hosted 75 editions of his own radio show, appeared in commercials for women's underwear and exhibited his own paintings.

While he values his own privacy, he certainly strikes me as someone who's increasingly become more at ease with his own celebrity.

£24 million (plus £35,000 a year) out of a personal fortune estimated by the judge of £450 million ? (Mills claimed it was £800 million and was looking for about five times what she ended up with)

The thread is about who was the most self destructive. Its not even close. Allin makes Iggy look like one of the Osmonds.

GG Allin

imho it's a no brainer - and he's not even on the list

how fake.

thats black magic marker and heinz ketchup.

nothing fake about GG, he was a truly disturbed sociapathic performer. he actually stuck a chair leg in his ass in a friends house in SF back in the day. He ended up going to SF General, my friend was shocked, he didn't realize GG was for real when he told him he could stay over. See GG wrote songs like my friend did, but this guy was not living them out. My buds band was supposed to open for GG, GG cancelled. My friends band went on to get pretty famous, they were called The Dwarves. GG is 100% for real.

He attacked Mistress Barb of Duchess De Sade. For that he should have been executed. But he was definitely the real thing for sure.

They were many incarnations of different bands GG played with. His brother was there for the entire thing. He's also a good musician and a bit more sane. He still tours and plays with the Murder Junkies. Some of GG's stuff was catchy and funny, some flat out stunk. There was a bootleg phenomina going on around him, and he was the least bit interested anyways. There's a good Doc. that I would suggest seeing for historical and clinical purposes, for those who are mildly interested and want to see the real deal behind rock and rolls most destructive performer ever!

Any guy whose father 'christened' him Jesus Christ Allin was going to have problems from day one.

Merle Allin is a legend in his own right. Not only for documenting GG's entire career, but many other New York gigs.

I have a DVD of Dee Dee rehearsing with GG. He was in the band for about a week.

GG Allin on the Jerry Springer show.  He explains a lot.  Not the typical Jerry Springer bullshit.  Also he meets the 17 year old Liz Mankowski for the first time.  Her parents are there also.

I remember this from back in the day.

I had to choose Kurt Cobain because he committed suicide. Did Sid Vicious commit suicide as well ~ In that case it's a tie for first place.

These 2 fvckers didnt know the value of life! Suicide is a deadly mixture of self indulgence and self hate knowing that by giving in, they will die, and thats just fine coz they dont care about anything or anyone. It's sad.

Suicide is rather complex an issue, but to be honest I'm not that sure Cobain killed himself.

I mean, even without putting much faith to what that private investigator says (http://www.cobaincase.com/, those 'buy the tapes' sections really don't add to the guy's credibility), there was indeed some weird stuff going on with the case... No fingerprints found, strange positioning of the gun for a person to be able to pull the trigger, crazy levels of heroin in his blood that would be more than enough to instantly kill ten people like him before ever having the time to shoot the gun... I don't know, one too many coincidences that just don't add up.

Oh yeah. My vote is for him. He was absolutely sickening. I don't know how he lived as long as he did.

I've never heard any of his music either---although it included punk, spoken word, country, and "Rolling Stones-influenced rock". Don't know as I want our Stones to be compared in any way to GG Allin! Kinda wish I hadn't read that part..
