Title: vinyl memories
Post by straycatuk on Jun 27th, 2008 at 7:25am
I'm packing away my vinyl while I have new floors put in the house . Remember the days when you had to buy bootlegs ?

That's a nice stack you got there, straycatuk.   I recognize a few of the booties in there from  my own personal stash.

Too much vinyl in your house and you have to replace the floors, that's for sure! :areyoufuckingserious

I like vinyl.

It reminds me of the good ol' days.

It has a sound that you can't get from a CD or cassette tape.

half my vinyl sits in my closet at home the other half at my folks house untouched for twenty years. sometimes i go in there to look at it. sometimes i really want to listen to it but then i remember what a pain in the ass it is. be gentle taking it out of the sleeves, place it gently on the turntable, get the record cleaner out, wipe it, get the stylus cleaner out, clean the stylus. play it and at around twenty minutes or even 15 or rarely 25 turn over and repeat. fuck. and no matter what it will deteriorate every time it gets spun. i can just grab 5 cds throw them in the tray and have at least four to 6 and a half hours of continuous sound. thats it. ok the vinyl is less harsh but the cds have got alot of punch. if i was listening to oscar peterson or some chamber music i'd stick with the vinyl but as a rocker the cd's are good enough plus with the remasters with bonus tracks.....

Damn!  You take good care of your records.  But, you are right.  Once a record is scratched, it's all over.

Plus, you can burn your own CDs.  That's what I do, I put all my favorite songs on to one CD.

"I really should get an ipod . . ."

Alternatively:

Grab beer.
Grab record.  Or a stack of little records with big holes.
Slap record(s) on turntable.
Put needle on record.
Rock like a bastard to the awesome sound for 20 min or so.
Flip record.
Get another beer.

Repeat!
:booze
If a record gets scratched, go get another record!

VINYL!

And you cannot even tell me that once a CD gets scratched it isn't all over . . . the sound of a skipping CD is anti-life.

For everyday listening/wandering about/farting around/house cleaning, etc - it is true, however, that a well stocked Ipod on shuffle is God's Radio.

one of my better finds was last memorial day at a yard sale.  i got Aqualung and inside was the original lyric sheet...i asked the girl how much, she said 25 cents.  i wasn't about to haggle over that price.

yard sales can be a great place to find old classic records.

:wtf1
