Title: Whiskey
Post by TenThousandMotels on Jun 11th, 2008 at 4:52pm
I don't even drink the stuff but maybe I outta start.
I mean whiskey isn't quite as exotic as peyote, acid or mescaline...but it does seem to get the job done....and it is legal.

I prefer Irish any day to Scotch.  Visiting Bushmill's was a high point in my life.  With the Giants' Causeway nearby, no trip to Ireland should miss that shrine!

Bourbon is the shizzle.  Irish and Scotch follow right behind.

Good bourbon is amongst the world's great liquors.  Indeed, tonight the household is featuring Knob Creek over ice.

Such generalization betrays inexperience.  There are literally thousands of differant brandies, including cognac, and hundreds of different scotches.

The trouble with JD is that it doesn't taste anything, contrary to Scotch whiskey. It's almost like Budweiser vs. Guinness - or Aerosmith vs. Rolling Stones

Do you mean JB ?

Erik, if you are in Arizona or Mexico and it's 45 degrees hot, then you would also appreciate a budweiser  ;)
I promise you !

Jim Beam...Jack Daniels - they are pretty much alike, I'd say.
Oh yeah, Axl, maybe there is something about the temperature - if it's hot enough; any mild tasting liquid would seem refreshing.

The ignorance here is maddening!!!  JD is a Tennessee whiskey.  Jim Beam is a bourbon.  LEARN the friggin' difference!!!  The lack of knowledge of hard liquor by so-called Stones fans is most disheartening.....

yeah, but they're still both whiskey.  so, whats the difference?  mix with coke and ice and after 2-3 of them you can't tell them apart.

LOL, I know the difference - what I meant is; they taste the same (no taste....just the taste of sweat sweets and alcohol); and they have the same percantage of alcohol - and the same price and lack of personality- so there's really not much difference when you get down to it: basically both JD and JB are 2 close relatives in the piss-water family.
So in lack of respect for those poor labels I say that "they are pretty much alike". I know my whiskey and bourbon, thanks for the concern.
I was wondering why Axl asked about JB....just as I write this; I realize that he might have meant J&B. Well - all those 3 labels can go straight to hell - they should all be labeled "budweiser with extra alcohol"

there is a 6-7 dollar price difference between the 2 here in my town.  my palate sees the change in taste big time....there is no comparison.

Hey, you're both rude and incorrect.
FYI, we have the same name for both whiskey and bourbon in my country - which is "whisky" - I never really thought about the word "bourbon" before getting into the internet .
That doesn't mean that I don't know the difference between them now.
Now, if you think JB and JD are worlds apart when it comes to actual TASTE....which I were speaking about; then feel free to state your opinion - instead of knocking of your one-line-sentences.

No.  Bourbon is a kind of whiskey.  Wide spread ignorance does not change that.  You may as well try and tell a Frenchmam that champagne is synonomous with 'wine'.
